I used to think you heartless.
Not the kind in darkness,
But as a child views their hero:
Strong and never tearing.
I loved you, I hated you, I adored you,
And I love you still
For being so much stronger than me.

And then I saw you break.
Not fully, but a glimpse
Of pain and desperation.
I could think so many things.
That it was my doing for
Wishing humanity upon you
And desiring a fissure in
Your ever-standing mask,
And the confusion I felt
As my wanting was granted-
Immersed in such feelings
As joy and nausea.
In that instant I was so
Overcome with emotion
I never realized that
In the aftermath of
Such a moment,
You chose to come to me.

Why, of all the people
You know and have known,
Would you come to my side?
I am weak and oblivious to
The world around me.
I cannot think,
I cannot see,
I cannot even comprehend
Life as you so insightfully do.
What is on my back
You find so appealing?
My friend,
I ask what plagues my mind.
With all the greatness
I think of you,
What must you think of me?

Author's Blab: So yeah, another work for class. It's a letter poem to one of my best friends.

For those who don't get the back comment: It's something I picked up from the 'Fruits Basket' manga. The Fruits Basket theory is that people can see the goodness of others, but since the goodness is on the back, they can't see their own. So I'm basically saying that I see all of the good in her, but is there good in me that she sees and I can't?
