Love cannot bring back childhood innocence,
nor save our souls from the decay of despair -
but we can find renewed optimism and heal spirits
through chasing those we love round the bed
and giggling like the little kids we used to be –
then, once caught, collapsing on each other
and falling asleep after nothing more than
just a simple, chaste kiss on the cheek.
Our needs and hopes and hearts can join
and dance in mutual symphony, calming
but energizing, we will sing old ditties
and fall, only to pick ourselves up, like toddlers,
everything will be new, and that which is old
will be forgotten, or used to propel us forward –
because love can hurt, but we help ourselves heal.
