Just Me

I was never Cinderella,

Dancing at the ball.

I was never Sleeping Beauty,

Waiting for a lover's kiss

To wake me from my slumber.

I was never Snow White,

Waiting for my prince to come.

I was never Beauty,

Learning to love a beast.

I was just me.

I've read all the fairytales.

I've listened to the music.

I've watched all the movies.

I'm still only me.

I fight the dragons.

I save the day,

Make all the daring rescues.

I learned not to judge,

To listen to all sides.

I was never a princess.

I was always the prince.

So what if I am a girl?

Who cares if my weapon

Is not a sword,

But a pen instead?

I still know when to fight,

When to talk things through.

I know how to take care

Of those around me.

I was never a princess.

I was always the prince.

I will always just be me.
