Don't Leave Me Like This

What makes a person who they are?
What makes someone think what they think?
Why do they think that way?
How can someone be what they are?
Words cannot possibly be most hurtful
Because silence is unbearable
Almost to the point of deathly painful
The worst wars are fought in our minds
People make things more complicated then they are
Or they don't realize how complicated it's become
Until it's too late and they decide not to care
Or they were too caught up to take notice
What makes a person feel so invisible?
Is it being rejected by anyone you choose to care for?
What makes a person not feel the same way about you?
Is it the superficial world we live in?
No one can read the mind of someone else
Nobody knows what is desired to be known
If by either person, neither says what they mean
Or say what they secretly want to
What makes a person scared?
Scared to say what we feel?
Is it fear of what may come of it?
What's the worst that can happen?
Why do feelings get in the way of reason?
Since when did reason become part of how we feel?
We should be allowed to feel what our hearts tell us
Live free to make true our deepest desires
But my heart leads me back to you
My deepest desires are empty
Because by you I've been rejected
And there's nothing else to live for
What makes a person who they are?
What makes someone think what they think?
What makes a person feel so invisible?
How come we can only be who we are?
