Chapter 1: Desires Becoming Reality

Misa, a 17 year-old student sat in class staring out the window. She found herself doing this on a daily basis, and never really made an effort to stop. School wasn't really her thing; she had no intention of going to college because she didn't think it would be any more exciting than her school. She loved animals, and wanted to pursue a career with them. She worked at the local pet shop, but if there were no customers she would just play around with the animals. Animals had always fascinated her; the way the always seemed at peace, and lived a life without worry was a life she herself longed for.

When class ended that day, she began walking home as she always did. She had been given the unfortunate news that she was failing half her classes, and barely passing the rest. She stopped in the park to relax, only to begin crying when no one was around. During her crying, a voice came from behind her. "Poor child, does this world trouble you?" Misa turned around immediately to find a woman in a black cloak. "Who are you," asked Misa. "Who I am doesn't matter, what matters is that I'm the solution to your problem," the woman responded. "My 'problem?'" Misa asked. "Yes, this world has been cruel to you, so you seek a simpler life, right?" said the woman. Shocked, Misa responds, "Yes… but how do you know? No, that's not important; how can you help?" The woman whose face is still hidden by the hood of the cloak stared silently before finally saying, "How would you like to be an animal?" Misa didn't know how to respond; she didn't know if she should laugh or beg. Finally she said, "What do you mean. Even if I wanted to, I can't-" She was cut off when the woman pulled out a glass vile from her pocket.

The woman spoke, "I have been sent here to help you. You desire a simpler life than this world has to offer, and I can provide that. In the world I come from, there's a whole continent that the animal kingdom lives in. No humans live there; as a matter affect, I doubt the animals even know what a human looks like. The animals there are different than the ones here, although some are the same basic animal, but different in some way. You can retain most of your human form, but you will get notable new features. This is a one-way deal; once you go there, you can never come back."

Misa was baffled; she didn't know where to begin. Was the woman's claim true, could she really live a carefree life? "You have one day to-" The woman was cut off by Misa throwing herself on her hands and knees. "I don't need a day to decide! Make me a beautiful creature of the wild, and take me away from this horrible place!" As soon as those words were spoken, a black portal opened behind the woman. The woman spoke again, "Drink this potion, and go through the portal. When you awake, you will be in your new form. Take one final warning though; since you will be an animal, the other animals will see you as no different." The woman handed Misa the vile. Misa stared at it for a moment thinking about what the woman said, because what she said was obvious. When Misa's head arose, the woman was gone.

Misa drank the potion, and stared stright at the portal. She was ready, this was the life she wanted. She took a big breath, and marched straight through the portal. The portal closed immediately, no one else entered.
