Devilish Delights- Prologue

Of all the many, many days he had existed, Gabriel Brunswick couldn't think of one that had been as dull as this one was turning out to be. It seemed that there was no longer a single soul in this land that even slightly resembled the personification of 'pure'.

Gabe felt ridiculous; he knew that the being responsible for his present turmoil would be laughing at him right now. But he must do what was required of him, otherwise he was putting his heritage at risk- and he couldn't let that happen! He tried consoling himself with the thought that at least he was mocking the one in charge with his chosen name.

He sobered with the thought of his very serious task. He was on a mission, and sinners be damned if he wasn't going to see it through!

'Erm, Mr. Brunswick, is that it? Because I've got to go and baby-sit my brother while my parents are out of town.'

Gabriel looked up at the seventeen year old girl sitting across from him and inwardly scoffed at her words. She definitely wouldn't do, she was a liar and didn't seem to be pure in any sense of the word. He felt sorry for the girl's brother, poor thing; he was being left alone in the house tonight while his irresponsible big sister went to the cinema to spend the emergency money their parents had left them.

'Yes, that's all Miss Atkinson. I'll be in contact with you soon enough. Have a nice evening.'

The buxom blonde stood up and shook Gabe's hand daintily and then rushed from the room. She wouldn't be the one who was hired, no, definitely not. He may look like an old man with scattered brains, but he could assure everyone that he was not. In fact, this whole rouse was completely his idea. No one had helped him set everything up, he had done it all himself.

And he hadn't even stopped once in the proceedings to give himself a firm pat on the back for this brilliant idea. Think about it, launching a new bakery and putting up advertisements all over the place saying that he needed an assistant was the perfect way to assure that he would find a girl who fit his standards. They would see it as an opportunity to get free sugary treats, learn how to make those same sugary treats and get paid for doing it! And the hours weren't that bad.

But he had little time left to find the girl he needed. He had only been given a short amount of time in the first place- how is three days enough? It was nearing the end of the second day now and still there was no sign of purity!

The tinkling sound of the bell at the door brought Gabe out of his reverie. He looked up and smiled widely.

Apparently he had spoken too soon.
