Hey yall! Hope you like the first chapter of my new story! I know my grammar is bad, but hopefully not bad enough to make you stop reading it! :) R&R plz! ill try to update soon!
A lot can happen in three weeks. My whole life changed with one ring of the doorbell. But I'm getting ahead of myself.
It all started at Christmas time last year. Since I live in a rural town in Alabama, it wasn't very cold, much less snowing. As I walked into the school gym, I saw Ally Emerson and her group of friends. As much as I disliked Ally, and all girls like her, I envied her group of friends more. Julie waved me over to basketball goals. She was my best friend. My only friend. Julie was great, but after having her as my only friend for over three years, I just wanted to have someone else to confide in. Actually, I wasn't even sure what it was I wanted.
"Hey Kendal. I'm so glad we are getting out of school today! Aren't you?" Julie gushed.
"Yeah. We don't have any exams, so I don't really know why they made us come to school today in the first place." I said. I wasn't in a good mood this morning anyway, and seeing Ally & Co. hadn't helped my attitude at all. Julie rolled her eyes at me, and then proceeded to rattle on and on about this and that. I wasn't paying attention.
As it turned out, we were at school that day because the janitor was sick. So guess who had to help get the classrooms ready for their three-week slumber? That's right. Us. I didn't mind. I went to a small privet school, so it wasn't hard to clean. The other eighth graders and I had to sweep the whole building. Once everyone finished their jobs, we were told to go home. I did. Gladly.
I was met by the warm smell of cinnamon. Mom was baking again. I tossed my book bag in the hall closet.
"Hey Mom, what's new?" I asked as I slid into one of the black bar chairs. I drummed my fingers on the breakfast bar while she pulled bread out of the oven.
"Hello Darling. " She offered me a cinnamon roll from a large plate. " The people who bought the house next door are all moved in."
I flipped my long brown hair over my shoulder. I wished it was more like Julie's. Her hair was perfect. It had just the right curl to it. Mine was straight as a pin and thick.
"Oh? Have you meet them yet?" I asked as I finished my cinnamon roll and threw the dirty napkin in the trash.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
