"Hi ya Tracey." Joan leaned against the lockers.

"Hey Joan. What is it this time?" the tall girl asked as she took books out of her locker. Joan firmly believed that you could tell a lot about a person by the contents and state of their locker. Tracey was definitely a busy type of person. Her locker was organized, but messy at the same time.

"I just wanted to know if you would be interested in playing softball with Ray, Jenny, Lisa and me. I know you didn't make the Panthers, so we were hoping you would join us?" Joan asked.

"I don't know." Said Tracey as she grabbed her book-bag and slung it over her shoulder.

"Come on Trace! You've just got to! We only have four players! We need you!" slinging her own backpack over her shoulder, Joan begged with Tracey as they walked toward Tracey's homeroom.

"Fine. When is the first practice?"

Joan smiled in her success as she raced down the hallway to get to history class before the bell rang.

"I don't know Lisa. I mean, I totally stunk last year. I meant, just look at my batting average." Katie complained. She hated batting. Hated it!

"Oh Katie! For goodness sake! Have you seen mine recently!?" Lisa sighed at her over their luke-warm pizza slices.

"Nope!"

"You're coming to practice. 4:00, Monday. Ill tell your mom for you." Katie shot Lisa a look that would have killed her if it were possible. Lisa just grinned and choked down the soggy pizza.

" Hola Jaedyn! Como esta?" Rachael said to her friend in the hallway after math.

"Stop it with the Spanish. I get enough of it at home!" Jade glared into the green eyes of her next door neighbor. " and I'm bien."

Rachael smothered a smile at Jade's spang-lish.

"So, you wanna get the old glove out again? Dad is gonna coach a team this year."

"Si! That would be fun! I'll have to ask Papa."

"Sweet! He'll say yes, I know it!" the two girls laughed and hurried to their next class.

Kamaria and Jamie were walking down the steps after school when they heard someone calling them.

"Kami! Jamie! Wait up!" Jenny yelled. "Man, yall walk faster than any one I've ever meet!"

Jamie just laughed. Kami rubbed her dark arms and rolled her eyes at her twin sister.

"What's up Jen!" Smiled Jamie, her chocolate-brown eyes squinting into the sun.

"Ya see, Ray, Lisa, Joan and I are getting a softball team together. I heard that yall used to play, and that you can run really fast, so I thought that I'd ask."

"Well, I guess we can. I mean, I cant do track till next year, cause I messed up my knee, but if I don't have to run long distances… I can ask." Said Kami.

Jamie agreed that she would love to play, and that they would be sure to be at practice on Monday.

Jenny pulled out her phone and began texting Rachael. She couldn't wait to tell her about their new team-mates.
