The stars, wow they've never been more breath taking! It was like this night came from a cheesy over-the-top romance novel, but it'd be without the knight in shining armor. Although that thought was partially depressing, I simply brushed it out of my mind, took one last look at the stars, and continued walking.

I always had hated walking through the city at night. Not once have I successfully made it across the city without being thoroughly scared by some homeless person or a loony who had been let out of the insane asylum too soon. Of course, that meant today I was going to be encountered by one of those very same people, and just like that thought was a cue or something, a man, looking a little less sane than the average person, started approaching me.

I stopped with a loud sigh when the man tapped me on the shoulder.

I know, I should've just started running away or at least had the common sense to not turn around, but I always did get some kind of twisted humor from these experiences and, well, I was just too tired to argue at this point.

When I turned I finally got a good look at the man. This is usually where the girls go on about how amazingly good looking he was, but honestly, I'm not one of those girls. All I'll say is he had shaggy black hair, chocolate brown eyes, and a slight tan. That's it, that's all I'm saying, I refuse to go off on a tangent about his dreamy eyes or his drop dead gorgeous body.

"Excuse me, but I do believe this locket belongs to you." I blinked. Well, that definitely wasn't the usual pick-up line. I looked at the locket he held in his hands. It was a silver heart, how cliché, but what really got me was that my name was engraved on the front of it. I wasn't sure if he was a stalker or not but I had this feeling, and my mother had always told me to listen to my instincts, that he was not a stalker.

"Umm, I'm sorry that isn't mine. I mean, it has my name engraved in it, but I assume it's just for someone with the same name as me. After all, Kate is a pretty common name."

I gave him a bright smile, which I was hoping would blind him like smiles sometimes do in the movies so I could get away, and started to resume walking.

Unfortunately, I wasn't in a movie, and he lightly, but sternly, grabbed my arm. "Trust me, it is yours. You may not know it, but that locket will become dear to you quickly." This was where he placed the locket in my palm and closed my hand around it,

"I have the key to the locket, and one day I will give it to you. Until then, keep it safe and close to your heart because it may actually contain part of it." With that he walked away from me.

It may actually contain a part of it, those words kept drifting around in my head and suddenly I became frustrated. I had an urge to throw the locket at his back, but I resisted.

What the heck does that mean?! God, I feel like I just had a conversation with a freaking fortune cookie!

Taking a calming breath and running my hand through my hair, I quickly made my way to my apartment and as far away from that man as possible.

Okay, so I know this was a short first paragraph, but I figured I'd just go off babbling if I continued from this point. I'm not sure if I like it or not yet, but I think I'll keep going with the story until I figure that out! ) Anywho, please R&R (such an original request, no?) and bear with me while I try to figure out where this story's going. Thanks!
