Stopping at a deserted looking store, I hope to find some shelter from the rain as my car had run out of gas about 20 miles back and I have no idea where the next town is. The little bell jingles when I push the heavy door open and step inside. A sleepy looking cashier glances at me and then goes back to his porn magazine. Walking up and down the ailles, I look for something to eat and an excuse to stay. Bathroom is no good because a closed sign hangs crookedly on the door. Sighing I continue my walk, not looking at the other two customers there with more than a glance. Suddenly a crack of lightening so bright and loud it makes me jump streeks across the sky. I hold my heart in my chest with a hand. Then I notice the room seem to come alive. No longer is it a store that I see around me but a homely type of house. The other costomers and cashier smile evilly and start to close in on me. Instantly I know this means no good. Backing against a wall, I stare at them in terror.
"What do you want from me?" I whisper.
They laugh softly, almost evilly. Finally the one that had been the cashier, a man in his early 20's with dark hair and dirty looking skin, lunges at me. Quickly I slip past him, just barely missing his grip. He snarls at me. Two fangs show from the corner of his mouth. Vampires. I glance at the other two. They too were vampires. The cashier lunges at me again but I slip away again, landing him face first in a book shelf, sending many heavy looking books down on his head. The others watch with evil smiles, their dripping fangs now clearly showing. I run through a kitchen area to a tiny lawndry type room. Throwing open the door, I'm just about to leap into the next room when I realize there is no room! There's a set of stairs leading down to a swap of sludge. I turn quickly to defend myself but it's to late. The vampire has me by the neck and shoves a piece of thick rope in my mouth. It tastes about as bad as the sludge in the room below me smells. I gasp as he sinks his teeth deep into my neck. I can feel my life slipping away as he swallows mouthfulls of my blood. Suddenly a booming voice in the room stops him cold.
"ENOUGH! You will drink when I say you will drink! Release her!"
The vampire does as he is told and I raise my head enough to look at my savior. A man with dirty blond hair and bright grey eyes stands in the door way of the kitchen, staring at me and the vampire. He opens his arms and beckons me to come to him.
"Come here darling. I promise I won't hurt you. Stand and come here."
Some how I manage to get to my feet and stumble into his arms. He catches me, holding on tight, and examines my wounds as blood continues to pour out of them. I stare up at him in a dying daze as he runs a hand loveingly down my jaw bone and across my lips. Then he glares at the other vampire.
"You've taken to much. If I don't save her she will die."
The other vamp hangs his head in shame as the mystery man looks back down at me. His eyes are sad when he looks at me and he carefully brushes a piece of hair from my face.
"I'm sorry my darling. This never should have happened to you."
His voice echoes in my ears as he presses his lips to my wounds. Ah but I've been tricked! I think to myself. He's nothing more than another one of them. I watch the ceiling as the fading light grows dim.
