Chapter One

"Sammy! You're back!" Annie Paige cried as she saw the person standing at her front door, the paperboy threw the monring paper at their house, but Annie wasn't bothered with that, though she did quickly shoot him a smile. Her best friend was back and that was all that mattered. Annie screamed before pulling her best friend into a bone crushing hug. "It's been 3 months too long!"

Sam laughed before replying, "Yes it has and I'm glad to see you're still in shape." Annie laughed slightly before letting go of her friend. To point out the obvious, Annie and Sam were best friends, and had been for the past ten years or so. They had met in the first grade, and they instantly hit it off when they found out each other's passionate hate for Barbie dolls.

Sam had found out that she won a competition to have an internship at Teen Vogue Italy. Hence why she was MIA for an extra month after the summer holidays. Sam had even missed out on dropping her older brother off at his new college, Princeton. Annie was so happy for her friend, but at the same time gutted. It was during the week before the summer holidays that her dad had dropped the bombshell to them; he was leaving. For good.

Annie begged and pleaded with him not to go, but once he was in the taxi he didn't even look back. Annie swore that she would never let him back in her life. He walked out on it. Annie needed her best friend to be there with her during her terrible time, but she couldn't ask her to give up such an amazing opportunity, so being the good friend she is, she put up a brave face and told her friend to go. Sam's guilt was chewing up her insides, she didn't know whether to go or not, but Annie proved a strong case that she was doing OK. Even though they both knew she wasn't, Sam left for Italy, leaving Annie to pick up the pieces her father broke.

But that was then, the summer holidays proved eventful for Annie. First it was going out with Danny Keyes, having 'him' break up with her and running off to Amber Ashley, the school's crowning glory, or the school's tramp in other words. It was Annie who had broken up with Danny, but Danny couldn't have his reputation as the womanizer ruined by her, so he told everyone it was he who broke up with her. Annie couldn't be bothered to set the story straight, since she was never one for reputations. But what Annie didn't know was that most people knew it was probably the other way round; Annie broke up with Danny.

"Come on in," Annie said taking her mind of him. "So, tell me all about Italy!"

"Nu-uh hunny, you have to tell me all about your summer. What's this I've been hearing? Going out with Danny Keyes, dumping him, having him lie to people that it was the other way round, catching the eye of a certain Matthew Parks, and getting love notes from an admirer? I have to say, you've done quite a bit for the few months I was away. And here I thought you would fall to pieces with me away from school for a whole month," Sammy said ending her speech of with a dramatic sigh.

Annie knew there was something missing in the one month she was at school, Sammy.

"Pish-Posh, nothing big! I mean, I only went on one date with Danny and that's because…well I know this is mean, but I was just so bored! I might as well have stayed home because all that boy ever talks about is cars and Football!" Annie cried.

"Well it's a good thing he's mighty fine, boy would I tap that…" Sammy said gazing into space. Annie slapped her friend on the leg for being to straightforward with her words. "But what about Matt?"

Annie blushed. Matt was her study partner for English. Since Sam wasn't there, she had to find someone else to partner with. Sure, she had a few girl friends in the class other than Sam, but it would be hard to choose who. Mrs Kaiser made it easier though, she made the partners to be in alphabetical order. She could remember her teacher's voice announcing the partners, "Annie Paige, you're partnered with Matthew Parks". Annie knew Matt from mutual friends, she always thought he was cute, and he was honestly, a nice person.

"We're study partners, that's it," she said growing crimson. Sam raised her eyebrow. "It is!"

"Sure," Sam said sceptically. "You can use 'study partners' as an excuse for that one, but what about the lurve letter's you've been getting?"

"Now those I don't know about," Annie said. She stood up from the couch and motioned for her friend to follow her. Annie wanted to show Sam the letters. "They're kind of cute but strange at the same time. Whoever the guy is keeps writing 'Always' at the end of the note and signing it as 'A Silent Witness', I mean why couldn't he just be normal and write, 'Your secret admirer' or something?"

"Maybe he wanted to be original, and who knows, maybe he's not a he but a she!" Sam whispered in a mocking voice. Annie slapped her friend on the head before reaching into her drawer and taking out the folder filled with four letters. She handed them to Sam. Sam sat down on the bed and read them.

"Hmm," she said once she was finished. "I get what you mean. I can sense the eeriness of it. Though I have to say I'd swoon if I received love letters. I can imagine the papers now now, Teenage runaway with secret lover."

"Yeah," Annie scoffed. "Because that is a news worthy story."

"Hmph. I resent that," Sam said playfully. "Well whoever she or he is, they're taking the time to make it sound all Shakespearean and poetic." Annie took the letters back from her friend and gave a one armed shrug.

"Now, tell me all, are the Italian boys as cute as they are made out to be?" Annie asked wagging her eyebrows.

"Oh you have no idea!" Sam cried before launching into her story of her three months in Italy.

Being at school with Annie's best friend at her side was so much better for her than it had been for the month without Sam. Both Annie and Sam had double English next. Annie was feeling particularly excited because they were going to start a project, the school had been nice enough to hold all projects for Sam's classes. Doing a project meant working with study partners, who were automatically your project partners, unless said otherwise.

"So, double English eh?" Sam asked Annie as they walked to English once homeroom was done. There were a lot of greetings and welcome backs to Sam. Sam and Annie weren't high on the social ladder, but together they made quite a pair. Sam's dark looks, black hair and light brown eyes, contrasted well with Annie's golden hair, and bright green eyes. It was both their gorgeous looks and fun personalities that got them noticed among people.

"Yes double English," Annie answered hoping her voice didn't give anything away.

"Ha, be all calm and virtuous as you like but we both know your hearts thudding like mad." Sam was right. Annie's heart was beating faster than normal. Even Annie who swore off guys after Danny couldn't ignore Matt's charm and good looks. His light brown, almost blonde hair, and dark blue eyes, matched well with Annie. Once people saw what a couple Matt and Annie would make, they started commenting on it. Annie would always blush and say they were just friends but Matt would grin lazily at them, a grin which often made girls swoon. Matt's silence would often question what his feelings towards her were. His eyes were always closed off. You couldn't read anything from them, except when he was really happy, and then his eyes would shine more.

Annie smiled slyly at her friend before replying, "But he's just so cute!" Sam laughed at Annie's behaviour. Sam had never really seen her friend pay much attention to guys, even when they were ogling her. Sam was never jealous of Annie, since she got pretty much the same attention. This brought a small smile onto Sam's face; sometimes it felt nice to be noticed.

The second bell which went off to inform students that they were now able to get a detention for being late went off as Annie and Sam took their seats. Annie noticed that at the front of the class, standing up was a new student. Annie took him in. He had curly brown hair, and hazel eyes. He stood awkwardly with his hands in his pockets. There was one seat available on the second row; Sam sat in the one next to it. Annie sat behind her with Matt to her right. They sat alphabetically too, so it would be easier in class to talk about projects and other class work.

"Hey," Matt said softly to Annie. Annie smiled at him and replied her own hello. "That's Sam right? Your best friend?" he asked nodding to the Sam who was sitting in front of Annie. Annie could tell that Sam could hear everything they were saying, even though she didn't show it.

Annie nodded and tapped Sam on her shoulder. "Sam, you know Matt. He's my study partner." Sam pretended to think about it, and then she put on a 'Oh-yes-I'm-(fake)-remembering-you' face.

"Oh yeah, I remember," Sam said smiling sweetly at both Annie and Matt. "Nice to meet you again."

"Likewise," he said before returning his gaze to Annie. Annie caught his eye. She smiled and looked to the front of the class before he could see her blush. She swore she thought she heard him chuckle lightly, but she couldn't be sure because Mrs Kafue had finished writing late slips for the few unlucky students who came in late. Mrs Kafue was a great teacher, but she was strict with punctuality as Annie found out in her second English lesson.

"Right class, good morning to you all," she said clapping her hands together. A few students replied to her greeting, Annie being one of them, alongside Sam.

"Well, welcome back Sam. I think you're a hero to some students here, because we would've started the project for this term a week ago!" There were a few silly grins and laughs. Mrs Kafue couldn't even hide the smile on her face when she saw Sam doing a few theatrical bows. Annie grinned at her friend's antics. "Anyway, up here we have a new student, Lawson Brown. He's come all the way from England. Why don't you tell us a bit about yourself?"

Lawson, Annie thought. It was an odd name. One she'd only heard as a surname. Then she registered the fact that he too was from England, like Annie who was half English. Annie turned her attention back to the boy who was now looking a bit pale.

"Hi there," he said. His voice was quite deep. It sounded quite melodic. She knew instantly that Lawson was going to be a much sought out guy by girls, and some guys too. "My name's Lawson. I'm from Manchester." Annie's mind clicked when she heard Manchester, she was trying to put a name to the city where his accent came from. "I'm a junior, like you guys are. Erm, I like pizza?" That earned a few laughs, mainly from the girls. The guys were most probably still sizing him up.

"I'm not really good with this, but I guess you'll learn more about me as the year finishes."

"Right you are, take a seat next to Sam please, you two will be study partners, since you're the only ones without any." Lawson took his seat next to Sam and smiled slightly at her. Sam offered him her hand, he took it and they exchanged names, even though they both knew what the other's name was. "Get started then!" The sound of chairs moving slightly was what brought Annie back to the present. Annie moved her chair, as she would do, to Matt's table.

"What are we doing?" Annie asked Matt.

"You weren't listening again?" he asked her amused.

"No? Besides, I have a lot of things on my mind," she said in her defence. Matt shook his head slightly grinning.

"All we have to do is get out our books on, 'To Kill a Mockingbird' and wait for Mrs K to give us out task sheets." Annie nodded and Matt took out his book. She looked back at him biting her bottom lip, with a sheepish look on her face.

"Forgot your book?" he asked her.

"Maaybee," she said dragging the word out.

"Well if you're nice, I'll share mine," he said taking the sheet from the teacher. Annie looked at him glaring playfully.

"I'm always nice," she said.

"Yeah," he scoffed. "And you didn't forget your book today." Annie stuck her tongue out at him and snatched the sheet of him, reading what their assignment for the next few weeks was. This time Annie heard him chuckle.

x-x-x-x

"Oh. My. Gosh," Sam said breathlessly, as Annie and Sam walked out of their English class. The two periods went by quickly. Annie and Matt joked around for half of it, before Annie firmly said that they needed to start on the project. The task was to choose a part in the book and write it in a script format and then act it out to the class at the end of the few weeks they had to do the project. Annie was so wrapped up with Matt; she didn't even have time to look at how Sam and her new partner/student was doing.

"Oh. My. Gosh. What?" Annie asked using the same tone Sam used. Once Sam realised that Annie was just playfully mocking her she stuck her tongue out at her friend and told her what was so 'Oh my gosh'.

"Lawson is so cute. Not just in looks, but like his personality is great too. I mean he doesn't talk about himself all the time, he listens too! It's like I'm talking to one of my girlfriends! It's so great," she finished off with a dreamy look on her face. Annie chuckled softly. "We even swapped numbers, just in case we need to do any studying." Sam wagged her eyebrows suggestively.

"Well it seems that you've snagged yourself a major hottie," Annie said glad that her friend was keen on someone that was not major sleazebag.

"Not snagged yet, there's still the minor detail that he needs to ask me out," she replied. Annie waved her hand dismissively.

"Pshh, minor detail." The girls laughed as they continued to their lockers to get their next books out.

The girls departed ways as Annie went off to Art and Sam went to her Drama class. Annie was more of an artsy girl, and Sam more of a theatrical girl, as you may have noticed from her little show in the homeroom class.

"Morning Miss West," Annie greeted her teacher who was at the door welcoming everyone to the class; she did that everyday even though they'd been in her class for the past month.

"Good morning Annie," she replied with a full face grin. Even though Miss West was probably about fifty years old, and she was living with her high school sweetheart, she was never one for marriage. Miss West often told the students that a piece of paper, or a name, or a ring would never equal what Miss West and her…lover felt for each other. Nothing could compare to that. Miss West wasn't all too religious either and pushed aside the fact that some marriages were a promise to God. A couple of girls thought she was right, a couple scoffed, the boys didn't really care, but Annie was intrigued. Miss West had a point, but then again, marriage is more of a symbolic way to show one and other's feelings, and it didn't even have to have any religious meaning to it.

Annie sighed and tried to clear her mind. She sat down in her seat and closed her eyes. Whenever Annie drew or painted, she always wanted to have a clear mind so she could focus on her art. She loved drawing, as did her father. Her mum said that she got her artist ability from her dad, who was an interior designer. A successful one too. Her two older twin sisters, China and India, were also artists, but a different type. China was a musician, and India was a dancer. Annie's grandma, from her dad's side, nearly had a aneurism when she heard what her granddaughter's names were. Who names their child after countries? She asked furiously. Dad had said it was Annie's mum's idea, which it was. Annie thought it was quite creative. Annie would've swapped her name any day, her name was nice, but Annie didn't want nice, she wanted...unique. Her grandma was thankful that at least one child had a proper name. Their family, aside Annie's dad who she only refers to by name, John, didn't get along with Grandma Paula, John's mum.

Annie didn't even notice that the class had already started working. Annie sighed and berated herself for not paying attention, again. Annie looked at her neighbour, Simon. She quickly tapped him on his shoulder. She didn't want to take up too much time; she knew how much she hated it when she was distracted from her work.

"Sorry Si," she whispered. "What do we have to do?" Simon smiled back.

"Don't worry about it," he whispered back. "You have to draw, or paint a picture of a memory that means something to you, good or bad. Just something you can vividly remember." Annie nodded thoughtfully. It was a good task. A number of memories travelled through her mind, she tried to think of one to draw.

"Thank Si, and sorry again."

"No worries." He continued his work, as Annie started hers. She knew what she was going to draw.

An hour later and Miss West had told the class to stop working and show their neighbours their work and explain to each other what they drew. Annie grinned at Simon who returned her grin.

"Men first," Annie said laughing. Simon chuckled and nodded. Annie looked at his piece with a more serious face. She took other people's artwork including her own seriously.

"I drew my dad's truck. That truck just has so many memories. I couldn't choose which one, so I drew the truck because it ties all of them together." Annie nodded.

"Tell me about one of them."

"Hmm…well my first kiss was sitting on the roof of the truck," he said. Annie smiled. "The first time I asked my first girlfriend out. The first time I practiced driving, the first time I drove, fully licensed, was in this truck….what else?" he asked himself. He suddenly grinned. "The first time I ever took a road trip without telling my parents. They were out of town, and a bunch of my mates wanted to go see this concert. We were sixteen, it was during the summer. I got held back you see, that's why I had my licence during the summer," he added to ease the confusion.

"Anyway, we drove up the one-oh-one," he laughed. "It was probably the most rebellious nights ever." Annie joined in with his laughter. "That's about it. Now, yours!"

"Right. Well," Annie started looking at her picture. It was a picture of an eye; there were shadows of four women; Annie, her mum, and her two sisters. "I wanted to show how my dad saw the hurt in our eyes, he left us you see. So I wanted to show that he saw the hurt in eyes in his own, and we saw the hurt in his eyes, and yet he still left. It doesn't really mean much, but this is the only way I could imagine representing the day he left." She laughed bitterly. "I can remember it so clearly."

"It's not as 'aww' as yours but that's my memory," she finished. Simon was looking at her with a sympathetic look.

"It's good. I love the meaning to it, there are so many meanings you can read from your piece but for you, that's your meaning," he said. Annie nodded smiling slightly. "I'm sorry about your dad."

"Ah, it's OK," she said. "Your picture's great. Honestly, one truck can hold so many memories. Just sitting it can give you a memory. Did you ever get caught for going to that concert?" Annie asked her curiosity getting the better of her.

"No, I never did." They shared another laugh, as the bell rung they both packed up and said their goodbyes to each other. Annie never really spoke to Simon, but he seemed like a nice guy.

After her fourth lesson, Maths, another lesson she shared with Matt, Annie walked to lunch to find her best friend. Once she walked into the lunch room, Sam waved her over. She was sitting the usual spot with their other friends.

"So, how was your first day?" Annie asked.

"Great," Sam gushed. "It's so different coming from a country that spoke Italian non stop to a country that speaks English…non stop."

"Thank God too!" Sara piped up. The girls laughed.

"So, Annie what's this I hear about you and a certain Mr Parks?" Aimee, another friend of theirs asked. Annie blushed slightly and shot a glare towards Sam, one that was noticed by all the girls at the table. They laughed.

"You've heard nothing, because there is nothing. We're just study partners, that's it!" Annie said firmly with a slight smile playing on her lips.

"Are you lovely ladies talking about me again?" a familiar voice asked from behind Annie. If you saw her face, it turned about every colour of red before coming back to her natural colour, only there was a slight tint of pink. Annie's chest felt like it was about to explode from the thundering beating of her heart.

"Matthew Parks, we meet again," Sam said grinning and winking at Annie blatantly. Annie groaned.

"So we do. Talking about me Annie, now really I thought we'd got this infatuation of me to a minimal," Matt said teasingly squeezing in between Joanne, a friend from middle school, and Annie.

"Yes Annie, please, we've had enough of your going on about Matt!" Aimee said teasing her too. "Robbie!" she squealed as her boyfriend sat next to her and they had a small make out session.

"Get a room guys!" Annie said throwing her banana peel at them. Aimee flipped her the bird and Annie rolled her eyes. "Nice."

"So Matt is what Annie's been telling us about your gorgeous body true?" Sam asked feigning interest. Annie glared at her friend.

"Those are all lies Matt!" Annie said aim a kick under the table at her friend. "Don't you have somewhere to be Sam?"

"Nope!" she said cheerfully. Annie banged her head against the table. Matt and Sam started to discuss possible make-out places for him and Annie. Annie groaned, but inside she was gleeful that he was sitting with her. Annie kept her head on the table to hide her blush and grin. They continued the rest of the lunch like that.

"Well Annie darling see you later," Matt said pecking her cheek. Annie flushed but slapped his shoulder.

"Bloody nuisance," she said a smile tugging on her lips.

"'Bloody Nuisance' eh? Well pip-pip, cheerio girls," he said in a British accent. The girls laughed at his antics. Annie, Sam and Aimee said goodbye to rest of the girls and headed off to gym.

The rest of the day went by quickly, and before Annie knew it, she was waiting at Sam's locker as she got out her books and put books away. "First day was alright wasn't it Sammy?" Annie asked Sam.

"Yes mother," Sam said shutting the door. "Oh crap Annie I forgot, I want to see Miss Nathans to see if I can sign up for drama club, we have to be in the drama club if we want to be in the school play this year." Sam scowled. "I can't give you a ride! I'm sorry!"

"Don't worry about it, I'll ask someone else or I'll get the bus," Annie said.

"Oh, but you hate the bus," Sam said biting her lip with guilt. Annie laughed seeing the girl's gesture.

"Seriously Hun, go! Now!" Annie said pushing her friend towards the direction of the drama room.

"I owe you a million! Love you late-gate!"

"You too, while-dile!" Annie replied without hesitating, they had a special phrase goodbye, something they picked up off the show 'Medium'. Annie continued on her way out the school. Her mind was on anything, but her admirer. Annie wasn't really bothered about it. Annie pushed open the doors to the school, and joined the other students who were eager to get home after the end first day back from the weekend.

"Annie!" a voice called from behind her. Annie turned around and saw Matt running towards her. Annie stopped and waited for him to catch up with her.

"Thanks," he said catching his breath. "No wonder the track team thought I was better off not on their team." Annie laughed.

"What's up?" she asked him as they walked into the direction of the car park, which also lead to the exit of the school.

"You have a ride?" he asked her instead. Annie looked at him in surprise.

"No," she said her heart starting to gain pace. Matt looked slightly relieved at that fact. He would've looked very stupid if she did, not to mention the embarrassment.

"Good. I'll drop you home," he said.

"Are you sure?" she asked though her mind was screaming at her to say 'yes' already. "I mean you don't have to it's probably too long for you…" she trailed off.

"Don't worry. I want to. Come on," he said leading her to his car. Annie wondered if Sam had cooked this up with him, even if they did, Annie wouldn't be mad at her friend, but thankful that she was genius!

Matt led her to his black mustang. She congratulated him, in her mind, for his good choice in car. He opened the door for her and bowed, Annie grinned.

"Chivalrous too? I may just have to keep this one," she said thoughtfully. Matt laughed. She put her bag on top of her Converses and buckled up. Matt got in too.

"So where to?" he asked. Annie told him her address. "Hmm, not far from me," he said thoughtfully. When they were on the road Matt put on his iPod that was connected to his radio. Simple Plan came on. Annie sat comfortably in the silence apart from the voice of the various singers that came out of the speakers.

When Snow Patrol came on, Annie hummed them under her breath. She was too content with looking at the scenery, that she never noticed the small glances Matt gave her.

"So," he started. "Tell me about yourself."

"How long have you got?" she asked him. She saw him smile slightly. "OK, Annie Sophia Paige. November 11th birthday. Two older twin sister, you might know them, China and India."

"Yeah, Nate went out with one of them, he's into older women," Matt said. Annie rolled her eyes playfully at the thought of Nate. She was surprised she hadn't bumped into him that day. Annie took the silence as a note to continue.

"Mum, Michelle, who's British, married my dad, John, American. They were high school sweethearts, but I don't know he got bored of us, and left before the start of summer," Annie said with a slightly bitter tone. Matt muttered a small 'sorry' she was thankful that he didn't ask any questions.

"What else? I'm an art girl. I hate gym, mainly because Lieutenant Fitzgerald is a complete nutter," Annie remarked. Ms Fitzgerald was a complete man except the boobs. She even hair a moustache, a completely noticeable one! "What else?" Annie asked herself but Matt answered her non-question.

"Bands? Shows?"

"Right. Paramore, Rascall Flatts, Boys like Girls and my new obsession…Thejonasbrothers," she mumbled. Matt heard her but chose to pretend he didn't. It was obvious not many people knew about her secret love for the band.

"What was that?" he asked.

"The. Jonas. Brothers," she gritted out. "Don't blame me. Seriously, they're just so cute! And their music is so danceable!" Matt laughed. "Do not use that against me," she warned. Annie pouted and leaned back on her seat. She noticed that the surroundings were familiar, they were nearing her house. Once they stopped in front of her house Annie picked up her bag.

"Thanks a bunch for the ride, I so owe you one," Annie said opening the door and smiling. She got out the car but before she closed the door she leaned in and said, "Next time it's your turn to babble on about your life." Matt grinned his eyes sparkling.

"Sure. The life story of Matthew Parks, edition Uno."

"Thanks again, see you tomorrow!" she called out closing the door.

"Bye!"

Annie unlocked her door and stepped inside, before she closed it though she looked back at Matt and saw him waiting till she got inside. She playfully blew him a kiss, he caught it dramatically. She laughed and saluted as goodbye, Matt returned it. She closed the door feeling blissfully happy.

"Hey mum," she said happily walking into the kitchen. Her sisters were already home. "China! India! You're home! Hey!" Annie gave them hugs from the top of the sofa. The twins exchanged grins, looked up and greeted her.

"Who's the boy?" China asked her.

"Nobody," Annie said breathlessly.

"You wouldn't be talking breathlessly if he was 'nobody' Annabelle," her mum called out from the kitchen.

"M-Hm," her two sisters said in unison. It was weird, the twin bond.

"First, Mum, I talk breathlessly all the time, and secondly my name is Annie, not Annabelle." Annie's mum looked at Annie frowning.

"It's Annabelle, it says so on your birth certificate," Michelle said to her daughter.

"No mother-who-named-me," Annie said sarcastically. "My name is in fact Annie, on the birth certificate too." She winked before bounding upstairs to replay the days glorious events. She could hear her mum call out from downstairs, "We might have to change that!" Which made Annie grin more.

x-x-x-x

The next morning Annie couldn't wait to go back to school. She quickly got ready; with more than half-an-hour to spare she skipped downstairs. She smelt the toast filling the air.

"Morning mum, China, India," Annie said placing her bag down and sitting on the counter and taking her toast.

"Morning," they all said. Annie watched her mum working busily in the kitchen. Her mum was a chef at a restaurant. Head chef in fact. Her mum's hair golden hair was tied up in a bun. Her blue eyes were hidden behind her glasses. Annie's gaze changed to her twin sisters. Their tall lean figure was inherited by their dad, as was their brown hair, but their blue eyes inherited by their mum. If someone looked closely, they could see the resemblance between each person, otherwise they could pass off as strangers.

"Oh, Annie a letter came for you in the post," her mum said. "It's on the side there." Annie wiped her hands and picked up the letter on the counter. She ripped it open. It was from A Silent Witness. Annie had forgotten about him.

She quickly scanned the letter;

Dear Annie,

You didn't listen did you? I told you Matthew Parks was trouble, yet you let him drive you home? You blow him a kiss? These things will get to his head; you may even get hurt from hanging out with the likes of him. Oh fair Annie; please make yourself scarce from the likes of Matthew Parks. He is not to be trusted. But, on a lighter note, you noticed me didn't you? Sort of anyway, but you will, and until you do I'll be here for you, in the shadows. Always.

Yours truly,

A Silent Witness

X

Annie caught her breath. She ran to the door and pulled it open. She looked around and could only see the usual people. Her neighbour, Mrs Jenkins taking her morning paper, another person on her road running to catch his dog, the paperboy, and the milkman. Annie sighed and went back inside. The looks from her family made Annie put her hand up and say, "Please, don't ask."

How close was this person that he saw Annie blow Matt a kiss? A few shivers went down her spine. Was this person really lurking in the shadows? His choice of words, 'shadows' make her grow a bit fearful. Was he really everything? Annie finally made her mind, she would have to find out who this person was and put a stop to the eerie letters. Soon.

So what do you think as a first chapter? Is it any good? Ways to improve? Did you expect her admirer to jump out from behind bushes in the first chapter? Lolage.

There are already a number of possible ASW's (A Silent witnesses)…

Anyway, thanks so much for all the reviews I got for the other chapter, and thank you for reading this chapter! :D
