Ode to Darkness

My refuge.

My haven.

A place of intense wonder.

The velvet blackness that surrounds me.

The ghetto part of my brain-world.

The peace.

The quiet.

The sightlessness you give me.

Living for the solitude you bring.

Learning to forebode the light.

Smooth,

As a skipping stone.

Wet and sleek.

Rough,

Jagged razor edges to my mind.

Soft,

Like the feathers of the peacock-bird.

Hard,

There is no shelter from the impact of unlit thoughts.

Warm,

Like coal in a fire.

Yet cold,

A comfort many forget we need.

Brilliant,

In your own opaque way.

Your pulsing radiance,

The ebony that holds up the earth,

Covering it with your morbid foliage.

You are an eclipse.

An effigy of beauty.

Like a hundred blackbirds taking flight.

Ridding star shine of the night.

Waves in an icy pool.

You are a black tulip,

So fragile.

So strong.

So misunderstood.

A thousand times better than the shade.

A million times better than a closed window.

The dweller of the night,

Leaving me to my much-needed peace and quiet.

Like a shadow you are everywhere,

And nowhere all at once.

Not supposed to be dark. I just like the dark, it gives peace quiet, a chance to live in your own thoughts, of love, of hate, of life in general. A place where you can be yourself...
