Sudden Death
The living creatures that walked
upon my body that peaceful
morning already had a scare
they were not prepared
for the Fat Man that
did a cannonball from the
hot summer, August sky.
I was whole, always giving
the people and the animals'
sustenance for their survival.
I am ashamed that most of me
betrayed them when I could not
protect them from the atomic bomb.
I did not anticipate such a devastating attack.
Although my body can be reconstructed,
the living things that perished that day
can never be brought back to life.
I feel so hollow and barren now.
