One Day

By Sawyer Paine

There stands a small boy

On a children's football team.

Always, he is on the sidelines,

Excluded, because he is not good enough.

But deep down, he knows.

One day, he will be a champion.

He will win the hearts of many.

There stands a teenage boy

Applying for college.

Always, he is turned down,

Rejected, because he is not smart enough.

But deep down, he knows.

One day, he will be a genius.

He will win the hearts of many.

There stands an enlisted man,

A private in the army.

Always, he is cast aside,

In reserve, because he is not strong enough.

But deep down, he knows.

One day, he will be a hero.

He will win the hearts of many.

There stands a middle-aged man,

A father to his children.

Always he has persevered,

Has never given up, despite the odds.

Now deep down, he knows.

He is their champion, their genius, and their hero.

He has won the hearts of many.
