I wanna reinvent the heartbeat
Sleep with suicide
so lost in medication
I miss my butterflies
It's been hard. After leaving, coming back and leaving he couldn't help but wonder how he's daughters and son would react. Hannah ignored him for a few more weeks before she went back into their routine, Hayley was just her average self and Hugh was happy to have him back. It was about three months after he got back with his wife when he decided to buy pizza and Hayley went out with him.
She seemed to be absent, in her own little world and she almost stepped into the road as a car came barrelling down fast. He grabbed hold of his daughter's waist and pulled her back.
"Stupid girl, look where you're going" he said gruffly. She looked up at him with confusion, obviously she didn't see the car, and he ruffled her hair "stuck in Hayley's world again"
"It's nicer there" Hayley said looking at her feet.
He felt his heart break slightly, he was very sure that she isn't over what happened a few months ago. Well neither was he, the sight of his little girl in a coma was terrifying.
I wanna lose you in the sunbeams
Destroy our way through the day
Love like the world was ending
He brought her a new book…well technically it was a Christmas present and he used tokens for it. But she swung the bag backwards and forwards and now had a bounce in her step…giddy because she had something new to read, though he'll take it from her before she can read it…after all there's two more months before Christmas. She almost stepped into another busy road again and he threw an arm out to block her.
"I was no where near the edge" Hayley retorted indignantly. And she was right but he was so terrified that she was going to get herself put into another coma.
"Let's get a drink" he said instead nodding to the pub.
They sat there drinking their cokes as they just talked, she told him what was happening in school and how annoying the Headmaster was and he told her everything that the governors and other headmasters say behind her Headmasters back.
She looked down at her near empty glass and sighed to herself. "Are you all right sweetheart?" he asked.
She hesitated, he hated that he knew that she was pondering whether or not to tell him something. "I'm fine" she said finally "just tired, I haven't been sleeping properly and I keep having headaches, that's all"
He knew that wasn't just it but decided not to push it. "Want another drink?"
"Yes please" she said smiling up at him.
Cause I'm still dying anyway
(I'm still dying anyway)
I wanna hide in your shadow
We can wander for always
I can love you more than those other boys
Though I'm still dying anyway
(I'm still dying anyway)
Cause I'm still dying anyway
(I'm still dying anyway)
They picked up some mini pizzas, ice cream and cider with the decision that Hayley will pick up some chips from the chip shop while he'll cook the pizzas and they'll share the ice cream later when Hannah and Hugh were asleep…
He yanked her back from the road as a car sped furiously by splashing the puddle and drenching him and Hayley.
"How many times must I pull you away from the road?" he demanded.
Hayley shrugged "my friends have to do it a fair few times, though I think you're all overreacting, I only got knocked over because I pushed Cal out of the way"
"You always talk about Cal" he said suspiciously "is he your boyfriend?"
"God no!" Hayley shrieked "we're just best friends, like me and Anna"
"I trust Anna more" he growled, he hated having boys try anything on his little girls. Hayley rolled her eyes not noticing the woman across the street glaring at her.
I wanna reinvent the heartbeat
Sleep with suicide
I'm so lost in medication
I miss my butterflies
(I wanna reinvent the heartbeat)
(I wanna reinvent the heartbeat)
They lounged there eating ice cream while watching a film. She snuggled up close to him and he smiled, glad that he was bonding with his daughter. Glad that all that ugliness had died down. Then his mobile went off, telling him that he had a text. He pulled it out and swallowed when he saw it was from Maria… he opened the text dreading to see what she's got to say.
Saw you this after noon with that darling daughter of yours. I'm going to make you regret leaving me, don't get too cosy with your little girl XXX M
He deleted the message quickly; he should have known that Maria would say something childish…though he couldn't help dread what might happen to Hayley.
