The Journey

T-bone and I had just gotten out of his car and were looking up at the casino. I looked over at him and he had his determined face on. We were there because of the casino manager. Apparently, from what T-bone had told me, the manager owed him a lot of money so he was planning to steal it out of his office. I know he had a plan; he just hadn't let me in on it yet.

"So? What are we going to do now?" I asked him.

"We aren't going to do anything," he announced, "I am going inside, you, on the other hand, are going to wait inside the car."

I stared at him in disbelief. No way was he going to do this alone, that is just stupid. "Are you serious? No way am I just going to stay out here in the car while you go on your little adventure without me! That is just plain stupid. What if you get caught? What are you going to do then, huh? Just sit there and rot until you—" He had covered my mouth with his hand and interrupted my little rant. 'He should not have done that' I thought. Then I bit his hand. He yelped and took his hand off of my mouth. I smiled smugly at him while glared at me and wiped his hand on his jeans. This staring contest went on for a minute until he said, "Fine! You can come; just don't get in my way." Then he stalked in to the building.

"Fine" I muttered half to him and half to myself. I walked in the building after him.

I had never been in a casino until that moment because I hadn't really been into gambling. Once I was inside I saw that it was packed. I almost felt claustrophobic.

T-bone was walking toward an elevator. When he got there, he pressed the up button and waited.

Once I got up to him I asked, "Why are you taking the elevator? Shouldn't we be suction-cupping up the side of the building or something?"

"I will serve as a distraction to him while you go and find the safe."

"So now you let me in on your brilliant plan." I said under my breath while I was walking toward the stairs.

There was a sign next to the door that opens up to the stairs. My mouth dropped open. There were at least forty levels. 'Oh yeah, T-bone,' I thought sarcastically, 'give me the stairs because God know I need my exercise, don't you know.' When this is all over, I'm going to kill him.

"Oh, my gosh!" I panted as I was climbing the steep stair. Last time I checked, I was on level thirty-four. I really wasn't sure which level I was on, maybe, thirty-seven? I don't know. Anyway, I was so tired I couldn't take it anymore. I made a silent vow to myself that the next door that comes would be the door I would go in.

And finally, I saw a door to some level I wasn't sure of. I crawled toward it and once I opened it—.

Darkness.

When I opened my eyes, all I saw was a grey ceiling. I moaned. My head was killing me. I tried to move one of my hands to clutch my head, but I found that I couldn't. I looked down to see that my feet were tied up and my hands were behind my back. I tried to scream but I couldn't because there was duck tape over my mouth. Well, I've had worst. This was way too easy. I sat up and worked to get my hands in front of me. Then I ripped the tape off of my mouth (which hurt like H-E-double hockey sticks). Then I tore the tape off of my wrists, reached in my boot and grabbed my precious little pocket knife. Then I cut off the tape on my ankles. Once I was free, I took a look around. It looked like they had stuck me in a broom closet. With a vent big enough to fit a girl like me through. Excellent. I grabbed a shelf, leaned it on the wall across from it, climbed and went through the vent. I scoffed. What idiots.

The vents were disgusting. It smelled like a thousand rats had crawled in there and died. I crawled around in there for a while until I came across a room that looked like an office. It was small with a medium desk, a spinney chair next to a computer, and some photos with people I didn't recognize in them. Also, there was something else. Something small, shiny, and….safe-like. I grinned to myself and did a little victory dance in my head.

I tried to get the cover off but it wouldn't budge. I found out that it was screwed in. so I got out my knife and tried to unscrew it. Success! I removed the cover and jumped down into the office-like room. While walking over to the safe, I started to rummage around for my stethoscope. I kneeled down and tried to listen to the little clicks. Five. Eleven. Eight. Seven. Ten. Then I heard a larger click and the safe opened.

"Ha-Ha! Look at me now, T-bone! I whispered.

While I was putting the money in my pack, I was thinking up of random things like; where did T-bone get his name from? It is kind of a dumb name if you think about it. When I hear that name or speak it, it reminds me of steak or that little dog from Clifford. I never knew his real name. Anytime I would ask about it, he always said, "Don't worry about it." I wonder if it's another stupid name like Bob. Who names their kid Bob? At least name him Bobby, that's a little more interesting.

Anyway, I took, like, half of the money that was in there and stored it in my pack. Then I went to the door and opened it cautiously, you know, just in case. I then stepped out and closed the door. When I turned around I gasped. There was T-bone smirking at me.

"Ready to go?" he asked.

I was still trying to calm my rapidly beating heart.

"Yes, I'm ready to go and don't scare me like that!" I yelled quietly while hitting him on the arm. Then we started to walk towards the elevator. T-bone then pressed the down button and within a minute the door opened with a ding. We got inside and descended the long way down to the main floor of the building.

"How did you get out of the closet?" he asked suddenly. I gave him a questioning glance. How did he know I was locked inside a closet? As if reading my mind he answered, "They were suspicious of me and they saw a security video of you with me. So they were planning to lock you up unbeknownst to me and planned to capture me later."

"Hah! They are such morons. He should get better henchmen. They didn't even check me for weapons."

"So how did you get out?" he asked once again.

"I untied myself with my knife, leaned a shelf on the wall, and climbed through the vent. Then I found the money in an unoccupied and unprotected room. See?" I pulled out my pack and showed him the money to him. There was at least 10,000 in there.

"Excellent." He said, smiling at me. I smiled back at him, zipped up my pack, and put it back on my shoulder. "And you are right. They are idiots." He chuckled, "All I had to do was knock a few of them out and run."

I laughed, "Wow, leave it to you to use your brawn."

He smiled, "and you, your brain."

I snickered "We so make a good team."

We did a high five a second before the door opened to reveal the lobby. We exited the casino, hoped in T-bone's car and drove off to an unknown destination.

I had no idea where we were going. I bet he did but just didn't tell me. He never tells me anything! Anytime I ask him about something he always says not to worry about it or just ignore me. But I guess he didn't say anything because I hadn't asked him. So I decided I would.

"T-bone, where are we going?"

"Miami." He answered simply.

"Why Miami?" Seriously, why Miami? We were supposed to be under cover now, you know? On the run. I didn't know why he thought it would be a good idea to hide in a city full of people.

"Well, I was thinking while we have this money we might have some fun." Fun? This coming from the guy who takes everything seriously all the time. I only had one question.

"Who are you and what have you done with T-bone?" Okay, technically that was two questions but I digress.

"I just think its time I—"

"Get that stick out of your butt?" I interrupted.

He sighed and rolled his eyes, "I wouldn't exactly put it that way, but I suppose."

"You are so formal. Lighten up, dude." I mean really, people don't talk like that anymore.

He ignored me and instead concentrated on the road ahead like the good little driver he is. I grimaced and leaned back in my seat and fell asleep. Today had been exhausting.

I was asleep for most of the ride. Sitting next to Mr. Exiting for two days was as boring as boring could get. Finally, we arrived in Miami and when I asked him where we were staying, he said he had called a hotel and saved us rooms. Key-word here is "rooms". I was not going to stay in the same room with him for two weeks; I've had enough of him in the car. Anyway, we arrived at the hotel at nine o'clock in the evening. T-bone went to the check-in/check-out desk to get our keys. While he was doing this, I looked around for a bit. Something was wrong and I could feel it. I felt as if someone were watching me. By the time I went to voice my concerns to T-bone, he had already got our keys.

"Uh, T-bone? I think we should be careful around here."

"Why," He whispered, so the other people in the lobby wouldn't overhear him, "It's not like anybody around here knows we stole a large amount of money from some famous casino." I guess in a way he had a point, but still, "Maybe you're just overreacting." I bit my lip still feeling a bit nervous, but I still nodded and we headed to our rooms.

When we got there, I decided to go into his room with him to discuss more of the feelings I had in the lobby. So I followed him in.

It was pitch black in there and I couldn't see a thing. Then out of nowhere a voice come inside the room, "Hello, T-bone. It's nice to see you again." I gasped and turned on the light. There standing in the middle of the room were five big, burly guys with a slightly smaller man standing in between them.

"Who are you?" I asked rudely.

He raised an eyebrow and smirked at me, "Why, I am Bob," Remember what I said earlier about that name? Yeah. "I am the casino manager you stole the money from and I want it back. Now!" he demanded.

I looked at T-bone to see if he was ok. He kind of looked intimidated. Heck I was too with those five big guys over there. They looked like they took a whole lot of steroids.

"Well you can't have it back!" I shouted.

"Oh, I think I will. Boys! Lock them up and throw away the key!" Alright that was the lamest thing I've ever heard.

Before I could voice this thought, I felt the coldness of handcuffs on my wrists. I looked up to see a cop looking me in the eyes. I looked over at T-bone as he was being handcuffed also. He glanced over at me and quietly said, "I'm really sorry. I should have listened to you earlier."

I shook my head disapprovingly at him, "Yeah. You should have.

Then we walked out of the hotel and inside the cop cars that would have taken us to the big house.

So thats it. Remember, if any of you can think of a better title please tell me i don't like that one at all. I am thinking of making a sequel so watch out for one in the future!
