Eternal Snow

Prologue

A demon stood before her, a smile on his face. I was frozen in place, I could do nothing, I couldn't help her, my own sister condemned to death because I couldn't move, couldn't speak. I could only watch in horror as he moved forward silently to kill her. I wanted to warn her, wanted to push her out of the way, but I couldn't move. A whisper escaped my lips as I watched helplessly.

"I'm sorry"

Chapter One

I woke up with a start, remembering the vivid nightmare I had. I watched the pictures flash behind my eyes again, none of it was familiar too me. My sister slept soundly in the next room, I glanced at the clock, it was two in the morning. I should go back to sleep...Instead I grabbed a flashlight and a book, and read till dawn.

"Yuki! You woke up early again didn't you." My sister accused barging into my room.

"Yes I did. You know I wake up early sometimes. Go away, I want to get dressed in peace." I replied simply, if I used too big a word, she'd bug me about what it meant.

"Okay, whatever, just don't go off without me, I want a ride to school today." she said walking away.

I sighed, this was a common occurrence since she didn't have a car of her own, or a jaguar.

I got up, got dressed, and went downstairs, placing my backpack by the stairs. If you looked at me and compared me to my sister, you wouldn't be able to guess we were related. I had black hair, she had blond, I had bluish/silver eyes, she had green. I tended to avoid bright colors, she loved them.

Still, having a dunce for a sister had its advantages. I was constantly playing a prank on her, for instance, this morning I kindly put all her work in her paper folder, and all her paper in her binder.

I walked to the driveway and put my backpack into the trunk, hers was already there.

"Thanks for the lift Yuki, I can't wait until I get my own car." My sister got in the passenger seat as soon as I unlocked it.

"No problem, just don't complain if I leave early today, Ms. Foster decided to give a really long boring lecture today, so I'll probably ditch." I didn't need to explain too much, she knew I was intelligent.

"Okay, I'll probably just ask Fran. By the way, did you hear about the new equipment the state's sending? Apparently they decided we were allowed to have psyche battles too" Ahh, the reason why she wanted come. She wanted to check it out.

Personally, I disliked the buzz. It was merely a battle that took place in the mind against an opponent that was apparently much safer than real battles. The kendo club was going to use to make the battles seem real, and to keep them safe.

"I don't even see why you guys like those things. It's just a battle that takes place in your head. It's not even that entertaining." I said walking to the gate. There was a huge crowd right spreading out of it.

"They're fun! Me and Tiane went to the mall last month in Brooks and it was fun! You won't believe how cool it is!" My sister was determined to make me like it, which explained her grammar.

"Oh be quiet for a bit Tera, I'm trying to calculate how many of your brain cells died in that last sentence." I was tired already, not good.

She shut up, and we walked into the crowd. I tried to get out of it, and was pushed back repeatedly. I wanted to get to Calculus to talk to Mr. Monte, apparently I had forgotten to turn in an assignment

"Look at them go! I'm so glad they shipped in the equipment this week! They've skipped out school for ages!" One of the high schoolers cheered, I glared at him irritably, I definitely wasn't a morning person.

"What is it with them and new technology?! Give me a good old book any day. Geez Tera, I don't understand you or this school at all. It's not that big a deal, if they wanted to play that bad, they could have gone to the city mall." I sighed and abandoned my sister and the crowd.

Sure, technology is cool, it saves lives, helps us do our homework, and can do complex equations. But I don't see why people love violence so much, it hurts more than it helps.

A/N Hello! It's been a long time since I've been online, sorry, I've been busy.

I just went over the chapter for old times sake and realized I made a few errors. I fixed them, and hopefully you can read it without cringing now. Enjoy, I should have Ch2 done in two weeks tops. I'm sorry this one was so short... Enjoy!
