Chapter One:
Megan Rose Davis hesitantly entered room 304. Being a freshman, new to town and having an advance class with all upper upperclassmen for first period, was a little more the nerve racking. Her chocolate colored eyes scanned the classroom, taking it all in.
At the front of the room was a whiteboard and that's where she spotted the teacher, scribbling frantically onto it as if his life depended on it. In the middle of the classroom were the student's desks. Many of the teenagers were already sitting down, chatting loudly to one another. She had just spotted an empty table in the corner of the room and was planning on taking a seat there when a boy with silky blond hair walked up to her.
"Hello," he smiled showing off his pearly whites. "My name's Ryan."
"Hello," Megan said quietly, trying hard not to blush. She felt so out of place and foolish. She barely remembered to introduce herself. "I'm Megan."
"It's nice to meet you, Meg," he said. Megan wanted to be appalled that he cut her name in half but he was grinning so stupidly at her she couldn't help but giggle.
"What's so funny?" he asked, slipping into the nearest chair and Megan found herself following his lead.'
"Nothing." She shook her head and ducked to hide her blush, her dark brown loose curls covering her face.
"I haven't seen you before," Ryan went on conversationally. "Are you new or a freshman?"
Megan managed to look at Ryan in the eyes as she spoke. "Both."
Ryan made a tsking sound and shook his head in mock disgust. "Children are so smart these days. I'm a junior and yet we're still in the same math class."
Luckily the bell rang just then and Megan was saved from finding something to say.
"All right," the teacher, Mr. Erikson, announced after attendants was done. "Now, I know it's the first day of school and everything but it's still school and unlike many of your other classes, we're going to get right to work."
Mr. Erikson paused for a moment while several students groaned before continuing. "Please partner up and take out a piece of paper."
As soon as the teacher said partner, Ryan began to scoot his chair closer to Megan's. "Hey partner," he said before even asking if she wanted to be.
Megan just smiled slightly and pulled out a piece of paper, along with a newly sharpened pencil.
"Now then," their teacher said once the commotion of partner picking was done. "Please copy the problem on the board down and then solve it."
Ryan watched as Megan studied the problem on the board. Her soft looking brow came together in confusion but a moment later a smile appeared on her face.
Quickly copying down the problem but not the answer, she turned to Ryan. "I already have the answer," she said softly, sounding apologetic. "Do you want to work through it or should I just write it down?"
"Really?" Ryan's eyebrow went up and he acted surprised but really he wasn't. From her shy meek like personality and being a freshman in advance math, he had known that she was very smart.
He glanced down at the problem and began thinking through it. He knew he could easily get the answer but not in his head. He would've needed to write his steps down.
"You go ahead and write the answer down," he decided. "I know how to do it."
"All right," she agreed. She quickly wrote down her answer then looked up at Ryan for approval. He glanced at her work briefly before returning his gaze to the girl in front of him.
"Look's right to me," he answered easily. He smiled at her and she blushed slightly, giving him a shy smile.
The palms of Megan's hand were beginning to get sweaty as she glanced around lunchroom. She tightly gripped her lunch tray as she searched for any of the girls she had sat by in her other classes.
Relief filled her for a second when she spotted a group of them. One of the girls, Maddie, spotted her and gave her a smile. Megan assumed it was an invitation but she was wrong. She had only taken one step forward when another girl slid into the last seat. Maddie smirked at Megan's hurt and confused face.
She was about ready to forget lunch and just go sit in the girls' bathroom, when a familiar smiling face walked up to her.
"Hey, Meg!" Ryan greeted her. "Why don't you come sit next to me?" He gestured towards a table full of boys.
Megan looked skeptical. The table was already jammed packed with older guys but Ryan was the only nice person to her the whole day so she suddenly found herself agreeing.
"Great!" Ryan exclaimed, sounding like he just won the lottery or something.
He walked over to his table, Megan trailing behind like a lost puppy. When they got there, Megan watched, shocked, as Ryan said, "Move over, man. Make some room." He shoved several guys' chairs so they were practically no longer sitting at the table. What was even more surprising was that they didn't even seemed to care. They simply repositioned themselves and continued eating.
"Here you go." Ryan pulled up a chair for Megan.
"Thank you," she murmured, glad to finally sit down. Her legs had been shaking so bad that she felt like if she stood any longer she would've collapsed.
Ryan plopped himself down next to her and began inhaling his food. "So," he said in between bites. "How as your first day at Sun Ridge High been?"
"Okay, I guess," she responded, nibbling on her sandwich. Truth to be told her day had been awful and she wanted to bawl her eyes out but she kept that to herself.
"That's good. I noticed you looking at Maddie and her gang. I would stay away from them if I were you. I suppose they're what you could consider the popular group, but no one likes them," Ryan advised.
"Yeah," Megan said softy, more to her sandwich than Ryan. When she looked up at Ryan she found him smiling at her again. She was beginning to wonder if he even knew how to make any other face expression.
"All right then," Ryan said, throwing away his trash. He was already finished and Megan was only half way done with her sandwich. He opened his mouth to continue then noticed Megan was still eating. He frowned. "Are you almost done?"
"No," she whispered, looking worried.
Ryan gave her a half smile and pointed at the clock. "Lunch is over in a minute."
"What?" Megan looked at the clock and swallowed.
Ryan laughed and stood just as the bell rang. "Yeah. What? Was your lunch longer at your old school?"
She nodded as she threw away her lunch.
"What class are you off to next?" The blond haired boy asked as he held the door open of Megan.
Megan walked into the building with a soft thank you. "Creative writing," she answered.
"With Miss Whitty?"
"Yes."
Ryan grinned. "That's great; so do I."
AN: Alrighty. Before "I left" I previously had this posted. I think. Anyways, it's going to a romance story, yeah, yeah, of course, it's under the romance section so obviously you know that. But there is going to be more to it than that. You'll just have to wait and see and review.
Thanks so much. I'll be happy to return any of the reviews I get if you let me know.
