Must get rid of it. I must get rid of this accursed thing. Luna ran down the dirt road, letting her wispy white nightgown fly behind her as she ran across the grass towards the dark ominous trees marking the beginning of the bayou. She brought her hand to her neck and forcibly ripped the thin gold and ruby amulet off of her neck, letting a hiss come between her teeth as the metal began to feel hot against her palm. Running fast than before, she dodged the trees in the darkness, thankful for the years she speny exploring the maze like south grounds of the bayou.

The only sound was the soft slaps of her feet hitting the dirt as she went. After a minute or so, she felt the ground become moist and it began to pull against her feet, suddenly seeing the reflection of the moon in the water a hundred or so feet in front of her she began running straight at it until she was ankle deep in the warm water, she flung the amulet as hard as she could, watching in mild satisfaction as the shimmering piece of jewelry smacked that water and sank into the bayou.

As if just suddenly realizing what she was doing. Luna stepped back out of the water, suddenly overcome with fury at herself for not covering up before she left.

Then again, she reminded herself, The situation was very important. She thought to herself as she slowly walked back down the dirt road up to the old plantation house.

Mama said it looked better when there was still help, but now that it is 1875 there is only a few servants. Luna thought as she looked at her home, bathed in the eerie white cast of the moon. The shadows of the trees danced across the side of the building was captivating, and Luna allowed herself to sink to the refreshingly dew covered grass and watch them for a few moments.

Suddenly aware that the east side of the sky was suspiciously lighter that the west, she figured it might be a good idea to get back in the house before Anetta discovered she was missing. Giving a little huff, Luna pulled herself to her feet and lazily walked up the grass and through the servants door to avoid any chance of being caught, then up the back stairs, around the banister to "her side of the house" and into her room.

She whined to herself when she opened her door to find the room stuffy as ever, with her big white cat named Puff curled up on her pillow.

Immediately she flung open the curtains and raised the window, and after removing a not so happy Puff off of her pillow, Luna settled down to go to sleep, knowing she would only have a few hours to get some sleep before Anetta woke her.

"G'night Cream." She whispered, giving the cat a rub before rolling over and falling asleep.

After what only seemed like five or so minutes Luna heard Anetta trying to rouse her, and decided to let the woman know she was awake by slowly opening her right eye and giving her a small smile.

"'Mornin' Anetta."

Surely it cannot be morning already… Luna thought, but a quick glance towards the window proved her wrong; it was as bright as ever outside.

"G'morn', Miz Luna. Miz Caroline expecting me down in a moment to help with y'all breakfast. Trust you can get dressed by y'self?"

Luan nodded that she could and after Anetta shut her door she slowly made her way over to her wardrobe and pulled out a soft green dress, one of the few left that didn't have a corset built in.

Tugging the material over her reddish brown hair, she reached for her brush and her silver mirror and, upon raising it to her face, she let out a little squeal of horror.

The pendant was around her neck.

Slowly she reached up to the necklace and gently tried to pull it away from her neck, and it tightened to the point of choking her, and Luna immediately dropped her hand as not to get herself strangled.

The necklace loosened.

What is this? Some sort of game at my expense? Luna toyed with the idea before realizing that not even her monstrosity of a little brother could make the amulet come back from the murky waters of the bayou.

That would never happen.

Luna sank to the floor just as Anetta came back in.

"Just a cramp Anetta, can I be alone for a slight bit?" She breathlessly hurried out an explanation.

Anetta wordlessly backed out of the room and quietly shut the door behind her.

What have I done? Luna thought as she lightly poked the pendant.

It started to retract.

"Oh, stop that. I'm not doing anything." She mumbled at the necklace.

It stopped.

What the...

"D-Do you understand me?" She said, feeling sort of stupid for talking to jewelry.

She necklace tightened.

"What are you..." She whispered, and the necklace grew unbearably hot, and she let out a shrill cry.

"Okay, I won't say that again."

Anetta walked in, surprised, and sucked in a breath as she recognized the amulet around her neck.

"Oh, chile, what have you done?" She turned and ran for Luna's Mother, leaving Luna curled up on the floor.

What have I done?
