This is probably the first and last oneshot I do. It for a school project, but I wanted to share with you before I sent it in. Feedback would be nice.

He made her heart skip beats like a scratched cd. He makes her jaw drop and the sunglasses fall.

The daughter of the lady behind the desk barged into the office. The door slammed against the wall and bounced back almost hitting the daughter. The daughter looked absolutely furious while the mother was calm and serene. In the daughter's hand was a newspaper with a big red circle around one particular job ad.

"What the heck is this lifeguard pool boy ad about Mother?" The daughter inquired through gritted teeth.

"Well, Claire, you've almost died in our pool five times in the last two months. For your safety, I've hired someone to watch you. This young man is Colton Grant, our new pool boy and your new lifeguard."

Colton stood up from his chair and extended his hand toward Claire. She looked at the hand, rolled her eyes, and sniffed. "I don't do handshakes, hugs, or being nice to pool boys and lifeguards." Claire gave Colton a smirk as he gave her a confused look. He shrugged his shoulders and sat back down.

"What days do you have lacrosse dear?" Claire's mother asked.

"On Wednesdays and Fridays from 4-6. Don't forget swim and dive practice." Claire responded automatically. Her mother asked Colton the same question. He only had swim team. Swim team? When did he get on the swim team? He's never been to the practices. Swim- Claire was cut off from her thoughts by her mother.

"Now Claire, I was asking if tomorrow would be okay for Colton to come over."

"Yeah sure fine whatever."

"I need your phone number." Colton stated suddenly. Startling Claire.

"What? No, you can't have it. Why? Why me? Why why why?" She started to talk to herself.

"I need to call you to let you know when I'm coming over and you need to call me when you're going swimming." Colton explained carefully as if he were talking to a mentally unstable person.

"Fine. Hand me your phone." She grumbled. They exchanged phone numbers. Claire gave her mother a pointed look. "Thanks. I'm done."

And she walked out, slamming the door behind her. A few seconds later, a long scream was heard throughout the hall.

Claire sighed and stared at her phone across the deep maroon bed spread hoping that he would just give up. She knew that it wouldn't happen. Sighing one more time, she picked up her black Sidekick.

"What?" She snapped before he had a chance to say anything.

"I hope you're at your house right now because I'm about five minutes from there."

"I am. I'll be waiting." And she pressed the little red button. Claire waited a moment before getting up off her bed. She shuffled into her bathroom and put her blonde hair into a ponytail. While she was putting on her favorite pink lip gloss, the doorbell rang.

She smacked her lips once, and ran into her bedroom. She grabbed her cell phone and IPod, before running down the stairs.

"I'm coming. I'm coming." Claire mumbled to herself. She threw the door open, and was greeted by a shocked Colton in the process of pressing the door bell.

"What?" She snapped.

"Um… ah… I ya… hi?" He stumbled with his words. She smirked.

"Well well well, Colton Grant, Mr. Popular is at a loss of words. Is this a first? Does Claire McKinney care? No she doesn't. She only cares that Colton is not cleaning her pool."

Colton stumbled inside and followed Claire outside to the pool.

"You do know how to take care of a pool right?" She asked warily.

"Yeah, I've done it before."

"Good. All the stuff is in the shed. I'll be right here." She stated happily pointing to a comfortable looking chair.

Colton nodded and got to work. It took him nearly an hour to get out all of the leaves in the pool. Claire kept a watchful eye on him and waited until he pulled out the chemicals to stop him.

"Wait. I want to go swimming before you put the stuff in." He looked up startled. It took him a second to comprehend what was said before he nodded. Claire turned off her IPod and got up. She walked past him and over to the diving boards.

"Aren't you supposed to be wearing a bathing suit?" He asked quit confused. She looked down at her body. Claire was wearing a tank top and her black workout shorts.

"I don't have to. I'm quite happy wearing this." She stated before climbing up the ladder.

She walked across the board to the very edge. She bounced once, twice, three times before doing a double flip and diving into the pool with a little splash. She surfaced a minute later.

"That was amazing." Colton said in awe.

"Please that was a horrible dive. I was off, my feet weren't together, and it didn't feel right. Just make sure I come up." Now it was Colton's turn to relax. Claire dived and swam for thirty minutes before tiring out.

"When do you want to do this again?" Colton asked before leaving.

"I don't really care. I'll call you. How 'bout that?" Claire replied smarmily.

"Fine. I'll you tomorrow."

Colton waved back at Claire before she slammed the door. Leaning against the door she mumbled, "Thank God that's over with."

A week later, Claire was showing off her different dives. She was standing on the spring board with her hands on her hips waiting for Colton to answer.

"Come on. Think of something. It can't that hard." She yelled growing impatient.

"I got it! A reverse two and a half!" Though Colton couldn't see it, Claire smirked. For her it was an easy dive.

"Okay. Just watch."

She jumped up and did a perfect dive. Landing with only a little splash. Colton waited for her to surface. And waited. He was getting antsy. And waited. Colton couldn't take it anymore. He kicked off his shoes, pulled off his shirt, and did a running dive into the pool. His eyes burned from the chlorine, but he had to keep them open. Colton dove down deeper to the bottom of the pool. He grabbed Claire by the arm she floated up a little. He took this chance to grab her by the waist. Colton kicked hard and broke through the surface. Both of them gasped for air.

Colton spun Claire around to face him.

"Don't you ever do that to me again. I don't think I could take another scare like that." She only nodded still gasping for air. "You okay?" She nodded again. "Good."

He lowered his head a little as he pulled Claire to his chest, and kissed her. Claire kissed him. Surprising to both parties. What was even more surprising was that Claire really liked kissing Colton Grant. The boy she thought she disliked to the tenth degree.

Claire was pulling books out of here locker and stuffing into her navy blue book bag. She tried to ignore the person breathing down her neck; alas, she could not stand it any more.

"What do you want Tara?" Claire spat irritated as she turned around. Her ocean blue eyes met with chocolate brown.

"I'm not Tara. In case you haven't noticed."

Claire swallowed hard, before she let out a small squeak. Colton smirked.

"Why have you been avoiding me?"

"I haven-"

"Don't lie. You know you have. You haven't answered any of my calls or text messages. I see you in the halls and you make a break for it. It's been three days." Colton said disappointedly.

"I uh uh… was busy!"

"Doing what?" Colton's smirk returned.

"Uh… swimming?" She winced when she realized what she had said.

"Good to know that you can't take thirty seconds out of your time and call me. You couldn't wait five minutes, possiblyten, for me to come over. What is your problem with me?" Colton was growing frustrated.

"I… I was scared okay? You kissed me and I liked it." Claire kept her eyes down as she mumbled.

Colton's eye lit up. He put a finger on her chin and tilted her head up to look back up at him. Her eyes wide with fright and his eyes were soft and kind.

"I'm glad you liked it. How 'bout another one?" He didn't give her a chance to answer before he bent down and planted a small soft kiss on her lips.
