Falling In Love With You
Chapter Three
Carly and I looked into the eyes of Jackson Andrews, as he stood before us with a confused expression on his face. I met his gaze as he rolled his eyes on me. He looked at me and then back at carly and then me again. We stood there staring at each other for about two minutes before Carly spoke.
"Hey Jackson…we were just uh…going somewhere…" she said trailing off. I bowed my head in disappointment because she couldn't think of anything.
"Right…" Jackson spoke in his rough voice.
"We'll be going now…" Carly said pulling me with her. As we passed Jackson, I felt his gaze on my back and then I looked back and he was already walking off. He was one strange guy, I'll tell you that.
"Now that was awkward," I muttered and Carly laughed and nodded as we finally entered the nurse's office. When Nurse Wright turned around to look at us she gasped and helped me to the bed.
"Charlotte, right dear?" she asked me and I nodded. "Did you take your medicine today?" I bowed and shook my head no. She sighed and went and opened one of the cabinets and got my medicine out and a needle. Oh how I hate those damn needles. Erg. She made me give her my right arm…well because I'm left handed and if she did my left arm it would be sore all day. She stuck the needle in me, and I shut my eyes and squeezed them tight and then she said she was done.
"Now lay down. You're going to miss a class or two today, Charlotte." She spoke and I nodded. Carly looked at me and sighed.
"That didn't look fun," She spoke. I laughed dryly and shook my head.
"At least I got my insulin. Which reminds me to call my dad," I said aloud.
"No worries," Nurse Wright spoke coming back to where I was seated on the school bed. "I called him just now and told him you made it safe and sound to my office. Now Charlotte…why didn't you come to me this morning to take your insulin?" She asked in a stern motherly tone. No wonder she became a nurse. She's got all the qualities.
I shrugged and played with my shirt. "I don't know. I guess I forgot. I mean dad told me to take it this morning and then I saw Carly, Lena and Luke and we got to talking and this and that and I guess I forgot. I mean it's not like it hasn't happened before. And what the hell is the point to take it any way!? I mean I'm going to die sooner than later," I spoke, breathing heavily. Carly and Nurse Wright looked at me like I had lost my mind. Well…maybe I have.
"Charlotte, you're not going to die, do you hear me? I do not want to hear such words from your mouth. You are going to beat it. You may live with diabetes for the rest of your life but you will beat this weakness and any problems that may rise along the way," She spoke to me and I felt teary. I hated when I was wrong and they had to prove me right. She was right. I needed to look on the bright side. Not the bad.
"You're right, Nurse Wright," I told her. She smiled and looked at me.
"Terri, dear. Call me Terri. I have a feeling we're going to get to know each other more than you know and I'm not going to like you calling me Nurse Wright. It makes me sound weird." She said and Carly and I laughed.
"But you're a nurse," Carly said after a minute and we went back into laughter. Oh the days we spend and waste upon the hour.
I made it to my second to last class, which was chemistry and entered and went and sat down at my table and then I noticed Jackson wasn't in the seat beside me. Weird…
As class started, I closed my eyes because we were watching a movie today and I was just really tired. I felt a chair scraped against the tile floor next to me and a grunt from the person sitting down. I was too tired to even look at them and kept my eyes closed.
"Sleepy?" A rough voice beside me spoke. It was Jackson alright. Oh the joy.
"Yes," I muttered.
"Go to the nurse's office and lay down," he told me. I opened my eyes and turned towards him and looked at him. His blue eyes looked dual and grayish and didn't look like he had life in them. His black shirt fit against his body very well and his jeans looked good on him. Today he was wearing converse and they were very cool. I loved those kind of shoes…I'm weird. I looked back up at him and saw him just looking into my soul. Like he was trying to figure out what I am…or some shit like that.
"No. I'm perfectly fine."
"Didn't look like it at lunch." He spoke.
"Well that was then, this is now. I'm fine." I said, gritting my teeth and laying my head back down. Wrong thing, because I hit my sore arm.
"Ouch," I muttered, rubbing it and trying to make the pain go away. After awhile it finally did and I saw Jackson was watching me. "What?" I snapped at him. He looked taken back and then shook his head and turned towards the movie we were watching. He was really weird, if not a mystery.
When school ended, Carly and I went to my locker to get my books and stuff. As we walked down towards my locker we stopped when we heard some guys talking in a nearby classroom. Carly and I stood near where we could listen but made sure we weren't noticeable.
"Dude, what's up with you?" I heard a familiar voice speak out.
"Nothing." Another voice snapped. I knew that voice. Jackson.
"Jackson what is your problem!?" a girl voice interrupted.
"Dani, stay out of it!" Jackson snapped, once again.
"I think not! You're always in a fucking bad mood! What is the deal, bro?" the girl, who I assume is Dani, spoke. One thing that caught my attention was that she said bro. Jackson Andrews has a sister? Woah.
"Nothing is wrong with me!" he yelled at her.
"Dude, chill." The voice from earlier said.
"Trevor shut up," I looked into the window of the door and saw that Jackson was pacing. I also saw two more guys in there with Trevor and Dani.
"I think his problem is with that new girl Cherie or whatever her name is." The guy with blond hair spoke. I recognized him as Owen Foster, from when Carly has pointed him out to me on my first day. He looked okay, blond hair, hazel eyes and tall like Jackson. I looked at the other guy next to him and it was Paul Watson. He was looking at looking at the wall, looking bored. He had black hair and from what I could see, green striking eyes. He was kind of scrawny but had a bit of a built to him.
"Her name is Charlotte." Jackson said.
"Ooh! It is about her! She's so cute! And small…" Dani squealed. Aww she's so nice.
"Danielle! Shut up!" Jackson spoke. Well he isn't.
"Don't you dare tell me to shut up one more time!" she snapped at him. So her real name was Danielle. That's very pretty. She and Jackson looked so alike. Like twins. Yep it had to be. I turned to Carly and asked her.
"Yeah, they are. She's pretty gorgeous, isn't she?" she asked, giggling. I smiled and we both looked back into the classroom.
"I'm sorry, Dani." Jackson said. Danielle waved it off and went and stood next to Paul.
"So you like her or something dude?" Trevor asked.
"No…she just…there is something about her that bugs the living hell out of me." Jackson spoke.
"What? She's like a fricking midget." Owen said. HEY!
"Owen!" Danielle shouted at him.
"Sorry but what is she like 4 feet tall?" Owen laughed.
"4'11." Trevor spoke. How in the world did he know that? I looked at Carly and she looked at me the same way I was looking at her.
"And how do you know that?" Jackson asked.
"I went to my mom's office and I just happened to see Charlotte leave before I got there and mom had her file out. I just took a peak." Trevor said. Oh no. I had horror stricken eyes. He didn't see my diabetes did he!?
"What else did you see?" Paul asked.
"Her full name is Charlotte Elizabeth Grey, she's 17 years old, is 4'11…umm…lives with her dad, James Grey and she likes to go by the name Charlie…that's all I got before my mom came around the corner and I had to shut the file and step away." Trevor spoke. Good he didn't see it. I felt Carly patting my back gently calming me down a bit. I sighed.
"Charlie? Isn't that a guy's name?" Owen asked.
"Owen, shut it! It can be a girl's name too." Danielle said.
"She sure as hell does not look 17 years old," Jackson muttered.
"She's tiny," Paul said.
"But she's gorgeous," Danielle added in.
"I'm not going to lie, dude, but she's hot." Trevor said. This earned him a smack in the head from Danielle.
"Ouch woman! That hurt. It's bad enough your brother hits me and now I've got you to deal with!? Hell no." Trevor said standing up.
"I'm sorry Trevor, forgive me?" Danielle asked. Trevor sighed and muttered something and Danielle and Paul started to talk again.
"So you bent up over this little girl, dude?" Owen spoke out again. I'm beginning not to like him one bit. He's mean.
"She's just…she's always leaving Chemistry to go somewhere and teacher doesn't mind and she comes back rubbing her arms. She's like a fucking puzzle." Jackson spoke sitting on one of the desks.
"Well Project FOWCGIUT is in mission!" Danielle squealed.
"What the hell is that?" Paul asked, Trevor, Owen and Jackson nodded along.
"Find out what Charlotte Grey is up to! Duh!" she said and the guys rolled their eyes.
"Why does she hang out with us?" Owen growled.
"Dude, she's my sister. I give her a ride home. Shut up." Jackson said.
"Sorry Jack," Owen muttered, clearly annoyed. I looked up and saw Carly looking bored. I looked back into the classroom and decided I've had enough eavesdropping.
"Let's go to my locker and get out of here, my dad is probably wondering where the hell I am," I spoke.
"Okay." Carly said and we were off to my locker. While we were walking I heard the footsteps behind us. I took a look back and saw Jackson, Danielle, Trevor, Owen and Paul walking behind us. As I reached my locker, I put in my combo but it wouldn't budge. I hate this damn locker. Carly tried getting it but it still wouldn't budge.
"Go help her!" I heard a whispered voice call out and I turned to see them standing about 10 feet from us. Jackson looked at his sister like she'd gone crazy. She just smiled at him and pushed him towards us.
"You need help?" He asked me grimly. I nodded shyly and stepped aside for him to do something to my locker.
He hit my locker pretty hard and then opened the hatch thingy and it opened. What!?
"How did you…" I trailed off. Jackson shrugged and then walked off.
"Jackson!" Danielle shouted. She sighed and smiled at us and then took off after her brother. The other three guys stood there and then looked at us. I looked at them but then turned towards my locker and grabbed my stuff and then shut it. Carly smiled slightly at me and then we walked off leaving those guys behind.
Since Carly had a car, she drove me home. I was really tired. I just wanted to go home and sleep. Carly pulled into my drive and put the car in park.
"Jackson helped you out…I didn't think he would." She said.
"I know I don't know him well but it was nice of him to do it," I said to her.
"Yeah but Danielle had to make him do it. He didn't even want to help you out."
"True. I got to get inside and take my insulin and try to eat something. I don't feel so good."
"M'kay. Don't forget I'm coming with you to your doctor's appointment this weekend!" she said to me and I nodded and got out of her car. As she backed out, I walked into my house and saw my dad in the living room watching TV.
As soon as he saw me, he muted the TV and got up and came to me and wrapped me into a hug.
"Don't scare me like that ever again. You need to take your medicine at the right times. Please do this for me," he murmured to me. I nodded my head against his chest and sighed.
"I'm going to test myself and see how my sugar levels are and try to eat something and then take a shot before lying down," I said and he nodded.
"Okay, I'll be in the living room if you need me Charlie." I nodded and went off towards the kitchen. As I was doing what I told my dad, I couldn't help but think of Jackson. He didn't have to do what he did for me today. He could've just ignored his sister, but he didn't and helped me out instead.
Jackson was a mystery…and I really wanted to find out what was so mysterious about him.
But first…I had to get myself together and take my medicine…and try for my dad. If only it was that easy.
