His antidote is her poison
His friend is her enemy.
His home is the bottle,
And it is nearly empty.
The man she knew is gone,
Replaced by drunken madness.
It fills her heart with sorrow,
To watch him slip away.
"Shut up" he yells to the girl,
Her eyes they fill with tears.
She loved him, was his friend
But the poison brought about an end.
His stabbing words betray her,
Broken truths surround her
A drunken man betrays her,
Leaving her alone.
She hates him not, but instead,
Hates what the poison's done to him.
He feels nothing anymore,
Not love nor laughter; toil or temper.
She's done, finally had enough,
Gone right out the door.
He glances up to watch her go,
His bottle hits the floor.
It shatters, piercing his heart; a million sorrows.
Now he's lost it all; his love.
He sinks to his knees, consumed
By his own foolish drunken life.
A broken man; he's all alone
True it's all his fault.
The poison hurt not just himself
But the girl he loved at heart.
