This is a dream I had two nights ago. It felt so perfect in my mind; I just had to write it down. The female is me, but I'm keeping the identity of the male to myself. :D I hope you like it.

xx

Far out in the distance, past the vastness of the meadow, a river is visible. During the winter, it is a beautiful sight; iced over delicately, pristine and beautiful in it's frozen state, but during the summer… it is absolutely perfect. Look, over there, past the cattails and swaying grass, you can see them. Don't they look wonderful? It's a beautiful sight; almost as beautiful as the river. Do you see them? The couple? Come now, you have to see them—oh, just past the gate, see? Right there. They're standing together in the sun. He has his arms around her; he's looking down into her eyes. Those two, right there, are quite possibly the world's happiest couple.

Don't pretend you're sorry
I know you're not
You know you got the power
To make me weak inside

After years of being with him, she still hasn't grown used to the sight of his eyes. As she looks up into those beautiful blues, she feels her cheeks tingling and smiles softly. His hand reaches up and brushes at the blush on her face, his fingers trailing across her cheekbones and along the crests of her eyes.

"I love it when you blush," he says and leans down to kiss her. She smiles seconds before his lips hit hers, and is still smiling as she returns the kiss. It's a sweet kiss; so unbelievably gentle. Filled with promises he's kept and new promises he'd made. She feels his strong hands against her neck, holding her face close to his. His thumb strokes her jaw-line and she relaxes, her fingers wrapping themselves around his wrists. He pulls away slowly, his shocking blue eyes snapping open, staring past her own eyes, into her soul.

Oh, you leave me breathless
But it's okay 'cause
You are my survival

"I love you," he whispers and she grins.

"Ditto," she replies and he smiles back, the wind tossing his hair. She reaches up and brushes a strand away from his face, her fingers gliding along his forehead. He leans closer and kisses the base of her neck softly, his face nuzzling her there. A sigh escapes her lips and she closes her eyes, lowering her forehead onto his shoulder.

The world seems to slow down and ultimately stop as she holds onto him, her arms wrapping themselves around his neck as he trails kisses along her shoulder, pushing away the straps of her tank top. The birds suddenly fall silent and all she can hear is the wind breathing around them, holding them closer somehow.

Now hear me say
I can't imagine life
Without your love
Even forever don't seem
Like long enough

He grips her around the waist, holding her body as close as he can. He laughs softly as he feels sudden jerking movements against his body.

"We've got a future soccer player on our hands," her voice kisses him gently, and he raises his head, glancing down at her belly. Her hand travels down to her stomach and he places his over hers, laughing with her as the baby kicks again.

"Great, an athlete like Mom." He pretends to groan and she giggles. The sound makes him freeze and listen intently. It trills in the air, piercing through every inch of the meadow, silencing the sounds of nature.

'Cause every time I breathe
I take you in
And my heart beats again
Baby I can't help it
You keep me
Drowning in your love

"I can't wait to hold her… " he whispers and looks into her eyes. The dark brown sparkles at him as she grins.

"What makes you think it's a girl?" she asks and he kisses her quickly.

"I have a feeling."

"Well I think it's a boy." She says, running her hand across her stomach affectionately. He watches as she smiles down at the bump. She looks so happy; his heart leaps with an unexplainable joy.

"You're going to prove Daddy wrong, right?" she giggles and the baby kicks again.

"See?" She looks back at him, almost triumphantly, "That's a yes."

He laughs and takes her hand in his. "If you say so."

Every time I try to rise above
I'm swept away by love
Baby I can't help it
You keep me
Drowning in your love

"I do." She smiles as he raises his palm to his lips and kisses it. Her hand tingles and she watches as he kisses her wrist, then each of her fingertips. Not once, do his blue eyes stray from her face. She blushes again and he grins.

"That's another one." He laughs and she shoves him playfully.

"Loser." She laughs and he wraps an arm around her waist, pulling her closer. The setting sun casts the most romantic glow across the meadow and they look out at the dimming sky.

Maybe I'm a drifter

Maybe not
'Cause I long for the safety
Of flowing freely
In your arms
I don't need another life line
It's not for me
'Cause only you can save me

"Did you ever think we'd end up like this?" she asks quietly.

"Yeah."

She looks at him and he smiles at her, leaning in to kiss the edge of her jaw quickly.

"I guess that doesn't surprise me. You're far more optimistic than I am."

He chuckles and holds her close. Her hands are against his chest, her fingers curling themselves in his shirt.

"I didn't think we would. I didn't think we deserved each other." She says after a silent moment and he glances at her.

"Really?"

She nods, looking up into his beautiful eyes.

Oh can't you see
I can't imagine life
Without your love
And even forever don't seem
Like long enough

"There was always something in our way before," she shrugs, and sounds as if she had expected him to feel as she did, "I just assumed that things would always be like that."

"Well you know what they say about 'assuming'"

"Fuck you," she laughs and he grins at her.

"Please? Would you?"

"Shut up," she rolls her eyes with a smile and gestures to her large stomach, "That's what got us this little present, remember?"

"And I am thrilled, that it did." His face is against hers again and she holds onto him as they kiss.

'Cause every time I breathe
I take you in
And my heart beats again
Baby I can't help it
You keep me
Drowning in your love

The baby kicks furiously again and he laughs, pulling away.

"Stop interrupting," he chuckles, running his hand along her stomach gently.

"He's going to be quite the attention-seeker." She watches his fingers trail lazily along her stomach and smiles when his eyes meet hers.

"Yes, I'm sure she will be."

"Idiot," She laughs.

Every time I try to rise above
I'm swept away by love
Baby I can't help it
You keep me
Drowning in your love

She steps backwards and starts to turn away. He watches as she slowly bends down to pick up her sandals.

"You're such a hippy," he comments as she hikes up her skirt and starts to walk back to the tree where they'd had their picnic. She glances back and sticks her tongue out at him. At the same time, she flashes him the finger and he grins at her endearing childish attitude.

"Pleeeeeeease?" Is his reply and her trilling laughter surrounds him again. He watches as her bare feet move through the grass, as her hair shivers in the breeze, and fights back the urge to run after her; to push her into the grass and kiss her until sunrise.

"You don't know what you do to me," he sighs quietly and his love for her surges when she turns around and winks at him.

"Hey lover boy, you gonna stand there gawking at me all night?" she calls and he grins.

"If I said yes, what would you do?" he calls back and she shrugs as she stretches her arms over her head.

"Not sure… I guess I'd just have to show you what you'd be missing." She tosses her sandals against the base of the tree and his eyes widen as she looks at him pointedly, slowly pulling her tank top higher and higher up her torso.

Go on and pull me under
Cover me with dreams, yeah
Love me mouth to mouth now
You know I can't resist
'Cause you're the air
That I breathe

He's tearing through the grass towards her in an instant and her laughter escapes her in a surprised gasp as he crushes his lips against hers.

"Damn," she mutters into the kiss, "You didn't last as long as I thought you would."

Every time I breathe
I take you in
And my heart beats again
Baby I can't help it
You keep me
Drowning in your love

"That was a test?" he pulls away and stares at her, looking surprised and she groans impatiently.

"Shut up and kiss me," she snaps and he grins.

Every time I try to rise above
I'm swept away by love
And baby I can't help it
You keep me
Drowning your love

Her back is against the tree in a split second and he's kissing her fervently. The small gasp that escapes from her lips as her back hits the tree sends his mind into orbit and he leans closer, pressing his lips against hers. His lips quickly move down her neck and he nips her collarbone gently. Her head lowers slightly and she moans into his ear; a sound so mind-blowing, he finds himself momentarily stunned. She whispers his name and he groans, pressing the palms of his hands securely against the tree.

"God, that sound," he mutters against her warm skin; she smells so good… unbelievably sweet, like clover, "Do you have any idea what you do to me?"

She laughs breathlessly, her fingers loosely gripping his waist, "I might have an idea, yeah."

"Doubt it," he manages before pressing his lips against hers again. She tastes so good and he deepens the kiss, falling deeper and deeper in love as she kisses him back. God, her lips are pure sugar and chocolate after their wonderfully romantic picnic. He groans into the kiss, craning his neck, kissing her harder. She gasps lightly as he presses his body against her stomach and groans crushing her tongue against his.

Baby I can't help it
Keep me drowning
In your love
I keep drowning
In your love
Baby I can't help it
Can't help it no, no

Her fingers move underneath his shirt and he shivers, his mind torpedoing back to their wedding night; how warm and slow her fingers had been. He thinks about how careful he was, yet how impatient and anxious. He hears her laughter and sighs. His mind reels almost painfully and he leans back to look into her eyes.

'Cause every time I breathe
I take you in

"That wasn't fair, by the way." He says and she smiles at him playfully.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

He pushes himself away from the tree and gazes at her, his hands tucked inside the pockets of his trousers.

"You're clearly far more attractive than I am," he simply shrugs and she pushes herself away from the tree and her hair shivers from the breeze again.

And my heart beats again
Baby I can't help it
You keep me
Drowning in your love

He reaches forward and takes her hand in his. Gently, he pulls her closer, holding her warm body against his. Softly he presses his lips to her hair and hums quietly. Together they sway to silent music and her breath is warm on his neck.

Every time I try to rise above
I'm swept away by love
Baby I can't help it
You keep me
Drowning in your love

"I don't know if you'll ever really understand," his voice is husky in her ear and she holds onto him, loving him more than she ever has before. She kisses his shoulder gently and rests her head against him. She feels so incredibly safe and smiles into shirt, breathing in his perfect scent.

Okay, so we deserve each other, she thinks and they stand this way until the sun disappears. Her world is perfect still; she's in his arms.

The song is Drowning, by The Backstreet Boys. :D Review, please.
