Harlot Girl

By Gabrielle Isabelle

Harlot Girl, child of men's rooms

Forever a servant for her clients,

Never to know the warmth of a groom.

Born into a small family filled with grief.

Mother's words and loved were missing.

While her father was a strict man of belief.

Death came swift, first to mother

Slowly but surely to dearest father,

Finally on Hallow's eve, death came to her brothers.

Lost and afraid, she rejected God and His words.

Priests and nuns refused to acknowledge the child.

The town shunned her away out of fear.

She took to the sea fleeing her homeland

Hoping for a new life in a country across the ocean.

Her hopes were higher when she saw land.

Surviving with the crew was no easy task,

She was cunning enough to use her sex

But she hid her face behind a mask.

For if the clergy aboard knew of her deeds

She would once again be casted from another village.

During these times the clergymen would pray with their beads.

On shore, the girl planned to stay

Hiding in taverns became an easy task.

Within the shadows she conducted her work, keeping authorizes at bay.

Harlot girl earned her title after spending the night with the governor.

He was lonely and in need of something new, and he was willing to pay.

He admired her so, sending gifts and jewels.

She was his mistress and he was her survival.

His wife was not pleased with his new mule.

Bitter and sweet she had Harlot girl sent away.

The girl did not mind for she could find new blood
