Sitting gently on my thumb,
painted black as night.
Shining in the classroom glare,
the harsh fluorescent light.
/
Even in this ugly place
with no beauty to be found
you manage to still be cute,
so hard and almost round.
/
I like your surface, curved and smooth
and your nearly straight far end.
You match so well my other one,
painted blue on my right hand.
/
I've never chewed or sucked you much,
even when I was little.
You've grown with me quite nicely,
to be hard and strong, not brittle.
/
I promise to look after you,
and alaways treat you right,
as you sit gently on my thumb,
painted black as night.
