"You will kill Adelina!" My father shouted.
"I don't want to kill father!" I cried back.
"It is your duty to protect this nation! You will kill!" He yelled.
"No! I don't want to father! I don't want to"
"You must! Now kill!" He yelled.
"No!" I screamed.
"Kill!" He yelled even louder. I screamed at the top of my lungs and pulled the trigger on the old gun. The shot echoed through the woods; scattering the birds that resided in the tree branches. I fell to my knees and dropped the gun I held in my hands; crying. My father huffed and truned on his heals to leave.
"Come Adelina." He ordered.
"No." I whispered.
"What?" He spat turning his head ever so slightly to look at me.
"No." I repeated. He grimaced, turned his head back, and walked away. Leaving me there crying on the ground. I raised my head and stared at the body of the person my father was yelling at me to kill. It was my family's duty to kill traitors and if any of them got away to hunt them down and kill them, that's why we had so many guns and why he ordered me to kill but recently crime rates went up in this big city and we found out there was a new type of creature amoungst us. Vampires. The person I had to kill was indeed a vampire but they looked so young and I didn't want to kill them. I didn't care on how old the person may be even though they looked so young. I wasn't the type to kill someone and there was the fact that I was only 7. Now a new duty was bestode on my family that my father welcomed with open arms. We were to hunt down and kill the vampires and rid them of the cities in our nation.
I saw a finger on the person flinch. I gasped, got up and ran to their side. I rolled them over and stared down at them. Their eyes slowly opened and a groan escaped their lips. I felt new tears run down my cheeks.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't want to. I'm sorry." I cried to the person. A smile broke on their pain stricken expression.
"Do not apologize." They choked out.
"But I shot you! I didn't. I didn't want to honestly. I'm sorry." I cried burying my face in my hands. The person reached up and pulled one of my hands away from my face. His hand. It's so cold.
"I said do not apologize. I lived a great life and it is my time to die. There is nothing to be done. Usually I would jump up and recover from this type of wound but I do not know why it has such effect on me." He said the last part more to himself.
"Someone came to us. A priest I think. He said your kind is effected by silver. So my father had silver bullets made to kill your kind." I said. He merely chuckled.
"I see. I have heard silver does harm vampires but I did not know it would take this type of effect." He said.
"You didn't know your own weakness?" I questioned. He shook his head.
"I never really thought much about it. Never thought I would have to and I always believed vampires were invinsible to all things but I guess I was wrong and I never really thought about testing it out. If it was true, which apparently it is, it would be a stupid thing to do." He chuckled. He flinched from the pain that was probably coarsing through him from the bullet that was in his stomach.
"It is getting harder to hold on to my life. It's almost time for me to die." He said the color of his eyes fading.
"What if I take the bullet out!? Please, you shouldn't die because of me!" I shouted grabbing his hand with both of mine.
"I don't know if that will do much and what if I'm seen walking around? They will tell whoever leads you. And your family will get blamed and then your father will be angery with you." The vampire said.
"I don't care. I don't want to be a murderer. It's not right!" I said shaking my head.
"You have a kind heart but I do not want to get such a kind person in trouble." He said smiling.
"You won't! I'll be me getting myself in trouble. Please I want to help. I don't want to be a murderer." I cried. He sighed warily.
"Very well." He said closing his eyes.
"It might hurt." I said quietly.
"I don't think any pain will be as bad as the pain I'm in now." He said.
"I'll have to cut the bullet out. I don't know about you but it hurt me when it happened to me." I said softly.
"You've been shot before?" he asked opening his eyes.
"It's a cruel world." I said laughing a little.
"It's not funny. Who would shoot such a kind person?" he asked completely serious. I shook my head.
"Don't worry about me. I need to cut that out before it kills you. You can't scream though it'll give me helping you away." I said letting go of his hand and reaching for the small dagger like knife my father had given me.
"What makes you think I'd scream?" He asked dropping his hand. I gave him a concerned expression before I pulled his blood soaked shirt up to uncover his wound. I could easily spot the wound under all the blood. I put my hand down on his tough stomach and quickly shoved the dagger like knife into his stomach. I could hear him suppress a scream from the pain.
"Looks like you were right." He laughed closing his eyes tightly. I could hear the strain in his voice. The knife quickly found the bullet. I pushed the knife in deeper and went under the bullet. I moved the knife around a little and pulled it out; using it as a shovel and digging the bullet out. I quickly grabbed the bullet and put it down on the ground next to me. I pulled the knife out and placed it down on the ground. I could hear the vampire's heavy breaths come out when I was done pulling the bullet out. I searched around trying to find something I could use to stop the blood. His hand reached up and pulled his shirt down.
"Thank you." He said struggling to sit up.
"You're still injured you shouldn't sit up yet. Plus your bleeding badly you'll loose more blood." I gasped.
"I'll be fine. I heal quickly. Indeed I will loose a lot of blood but I will gain it back when I feed." He said sitting up straight.
"When you. Feed?" I gulped.
"Don't worry. I will not hurt you. I owe you my life." He said soothing me.
"No you don't." I objected quickly. He laughed.
"I truly am sorry. I caused you so much pain." I said sadly looking down at the ground.
"You may have caused me pain but you saved my life. Please stop apologizing I forgive you. You have proved to me that your kind isn't all the same. There are some that have a heart and can care for others." He said kindly. I looked up at him trying to hide the smile that was trying to break my blank expression. No one has said something like that to me before and it felt nice.
"I must go now. Your father has sent people to retreave you." He said.
"It's no use they'll notice that your body is gone. My hands are covered in blood and so is my knife." He tore a part of his shirt that didn't have blood on it and picked my knife up. He cleaned it off and then started to clean my hands off.
"Thanks." I said. He nodded and stuffed the cloth in his pocket.
"Thank you for saving my life." He said. I smiled and nodded. A jolt pulled me forward. The vampire leaned in and kissed me on my cheek then disappeared.
"Until next time Adelina." His whisper said in the wind. I sat there shocked. My eyes wide. A good 2 minutes later I snapped out of my daze and my hand flew up to my cheek. The people my father sent to get me broke through a bush and stared at me for a minute before speaking.
"Your father sent us to get you." I grabbed my knife, put it away, and stepped on the bullet burying it in the ground with my foot. I walked past them; without picking up the gun that was laying on the floor. One of them quickly bent down and picked it up and raced to follow after me with the other trailing behind them.
"You left your gun." The one who picked the gun up said walking up to my side.
"That tool is not my gun. It's my father's. If you wish to return it to someone then give it to him." I spat.
Putting my trust into vampires wasn't a bright thing to do. Just because one vampire was nice and didn't try to kill me doesn't mean they all were like that. Humans are all different. Some are nice. Some are mean. Some are mean and can be nice at times. Some can be nice and mean at times. And so can vampires. It was a great mistake to believe that all vampires are the same; nice and kind.
I flipped through the book I was reading in the main library of the grand house I lived in. The library was the one place I could escape to where my father couldn't find me. He could never find me when ever I hid in the library because he didn't know I could read. The library is the last place he would expect me to be in. My father raised me to kill and set that as my only goal in life. It was his goal not mine. Every time he made me kill I would try my best to help the victim but it never worked out as well as it did with that one vampire I had helped a year ago. They would die and I would feel horrible. That's when I started to hide in the library and that's when I taught myself to read.
A couple of crashes entered the library from somewhere in the grand house. I jumped each time not expecting any of them. I grumbled and closed my eyes tightly out of annoyance. Even though I taught myself to read a year ago my reading wasn't all to well. When ever there was a noise or someone talking outside the library doors my eyes would just skim over the words and I would have to go back to read it several times. Most of the words I had trouble pronouncing but eventually I would find out what the word meant.
The library door creaked open and a servant stumbled in, out of breath.
"Young master. Run. The house is under attack. So many people have been killed already. Please run. Live." The servant said frantically.
"Who!? Who is attacking!?" I asked standing up.
"Vampires." She whispered before collapsing. Blood was dripping down her back. I knew she was dead. I stood in shock, not from the servant dieing in front of my eyes but at who she had said was attacking. I shook my head. I couldn't believe it. Vampires. Attacking my home? I saved one of them. No! how can this be? He was so nice! No! No! I shouted in my head. I snapped out of my shock and quickly ran out of the library. I ran down the grand stair case and stopped at the bottom. A large group of vampires stood at my large front door. Standing there. I looked around the entry hall. Bodies lay everywhere; the floor and walls covered with their blood. Tears fell from my eyes. The vampires stared at me with a cold expression. No remorse or regret filled their eyes. The one in front, probably the one who led the massacre, took a step forward; bearing fangs.
"Wait! Do not attack that girl!" A vampire shouted from the group. The head vampire stopped walking forward and turned around as a vampire came out from in the middle of the group; to the front.
"Who are you to tell me not to attack?" The head vampire said. My eyes widened at who had emerged from the group. Who told the head vampire not to attack me.
"She does not deserve to die. She has a kind heart." The vampire said.
"Humans are vial creatures they all deserve to die!" The head vampire shouted.
"She had saved my life a year ago. Even though I am the enemy to her kind and most importantly to her family. She risked being punished by her father to save me life. She does not deserve to die." The vampire spoke up. The head vampire stole a glare at me before growling at the vampire who had spoke up.
"Head back to the city." The head vampire ordered. The vampires in the group nodded and ran out my front door with extraordinary speed.
"You." I spoke quietly. Even with how quiet my voice was I could hear the crack in it. He stared at me with a blank expression.
"You!" I shouted.
"I trusted you! I saved your life! And you! You killed my family! You killed everyone! Even the servants! What did those innocent servants do to deserve that fate!?" I screamed.
"You are young you would not understand the matters of war." He said sadly.
"I am young!? I may be very young but I know a lot more then you think! I lived with a family that lives off of war and you think I don't understand war!?" I screamed. He was right I was young. I was 8. Young but I knew a lot more than I should and spoke much older then I am.
"We killed them because they serve my kind's greatest enemy. For that they deserve to die." He stated.
"They were here to make a living! So they could afford to feed their families! And Me! I am apart of your greatest enemy! Why did you prevent that vampire from killing me!?" I yelled.
"Is that what you want?" He asked softly.
"What?" I asked lowering my voice. Tears streaking my cheeks.
"Do you want to be killed like your family?" He asked.
"No! But I don't understand why you would spare my life! A life that is nothing now that I lost all my family and friends!" I shouted. He stood quiet and said.
"Because you spared mine. This is the only way I can repay you." He said.
"Repay me!? Repay me!? You did not repay me! I have nothing now! Nothing but pain because I know my family was killed and I was spared when I should have been killed along with them!" I shouted.
"I am sorry." He said quietly.
"I hate you." I spat. He stood there.
"I hate you! I trusted you! I saved your life and you kill my family! I should never have trusted you! You and your. And your kind! Get out of here! You don't belong here! I hate you!" I shouted new tears coming down my cheeks. I saw his jaw lock. He bowed his head and disappeared. I stood where I was; sobbing. My small body shaking. I sucked up my tears and clenched my fists. I'm so stupid! I shouldn't have trusted those monsters! I thought angerily. I turned around and stomped up the grand stairs case. The sound of my stomping feet echoed through the quiet house. I stomped through the halls of my quiet; blood stained house. I entered my room and pulled out a carrying bag. I went into the small chest that was on my end table and dumped a bunch of gold and diamonds into my carrying bag. That should be enough to get me through. I thought going into a drawer in my dresser. I pulled out a small bag of gold and then some shirts and pants. I put them in my bag, picked it up, and left my room. I entered my father's weapon chamber and eased my way over to his gun cabinet. I pulled out a couple small guns and put them in my bag. Then I went over to the cabinet he held the silver bullets in and dumped them into my bag. I pretty much cleared my father's weapon chamber out. I only left the big heavy guns that would be to heavy for me to carry. I went over to my father's special cabinet and pulled out his two rapiers that he hadn't used since the guns and silver bullets were invented. One was a normal rapier nothing to special and the other was made of pure silver. Even the hilt. So no vampire could touch it or live when it pierced them. I buckled them on my waist and left the weapon chamber. I walked into the main room where my father and mother's bodies lay. I stared down at them with a saddened expression. I was surprised that I wasn't balling my eyes out.
"I will avenge you mother and father. I will kill those monsters and win back our nation from them. Do not worry. I will live up to your expectations father and will not let this go. I will live to kill like you wanted me to." I said to their bodies and left the grand house that I loved. To be on my own at only 8 years of age.
10 years later
I lounged on the forest floor; my eyes closed and my arms sprawled out. I breathed in the sweet scent of the wilderness.
"Ah. Such young beautiful prey." A voice of a monster said. I stayed where I was and kept my eyes closed not showing a sign of fear, movement, or life at that. It wasn't like I was scared. I've lived off of these kind of encounters. It made me laugh and sort of. Entertained me.
"Hm? No fear? Do you wish to die? Scream a little and I just may spare your life." The voice said. I sighed contently and finally opened my eyes. The monster was beautiful. I'd hate to think that of my enemy but the thought always comes to mind. I stood up and brushed off my bum and back. I stared at the monster for a moment and then picked up my rapier. The rapier I always used to kill them. To kill the vampires.
"What's this? Prepared to fight back huh? Won't do much good. No one has defeated me!" The monster said with pride. I unsheathed the slick rapier keeping my bored eyes on the shiny silver blade. The vampire stared at the blade for a second and then his nostrils flared.
"That blade smells of vampire blood. You! Are you a vampire killer?" He asked angered.
"Indeed I am. This blade has killed over a hundred of your kind. Not that I'm counting. Monster. Are you prepared to die by my blade?" I said softly. He grimaced and continued to stare at my blade as I looked over it.
"I will put an end to your slaying, girl. Do not speak to me like I am as weak as the vampires you have killed with that blade of yours, I am no disgrace to die at a human's hands." The vampire spat. I merely giggled an evil laugh. The vampire charged at me with glorious speed and elegance. I quickly turned the rapier to the side and spun around on my heal. I swung the rapier and stabbed the vampire in the stomach. As soon as the rapier pierced the vampire's stomach the vampire froze and stared at me with wide eyes. I could tell he was struggling with every small movement and every breath that was not needed. His eyes shifted to the blade as his blood soaked his clothing and slid down my rapier's blade.
"That...rapier." He gasped with strain in his voice.
"Yes. It is made of pure silver. Every inch of it." I said admiring the way the blade looked even though blood was all over it and that it was still in the vampire's abdomen. He gasped again.
"Then...You are." He struggled to gasp out. I nodded with a grin on my face.
"Adelina"
"The vampire killer." He gasped. My grin widened.
"I see I'm well known to vampires." I said.
"Only to the nomads and the noble vampire clans." He strained. My grin did not go away.
"Please. Spare me the pain of this and just kill me." He begged. That's when my grin went away. Yes vampires did kill my family. Yes I did vow to avenge them. And yes I do, now, live to kill but I hate seeing people in pain and suffering. And when my family and friends, the servants that is, were killed I did no hear one shriek of pain from them. Which means the vampires had some decency to kill them quickly.
"That much. I can give you." I said carefully pulling my rapier out of his abdomen. He sighed with relief. I picked my carrying bag up, pulled out one of the old guns I still carried with me and loaded it up with one single silver bullet.
"With the damage done to you by my rapier this will kill you as soon as it breaks skin." I said pointing the gun at his head. He stared at me with blank and thankful eyes that I was ending his pain. Then it hit me. The small amount of decency left in me. My hand started to shake. I was hesitating. I closed my eyes and pulled the trigger. I heard the thud of the vampire's lifeless body hit the forest floor. I fell to my knees without opening my eyes. What is this all of a sudden? I thought confused. I shook the feelings off and thought about the images of the bodies that were in my grand house. I opened my eyes, stood up, packed my gun, cleaned off and sheathed my rapier, buckled it to my waist, and walked out of the clearing that was in front of the silent river.
I got to the edge of the forest and walked out. Just off from the edge of the forest was a small city. It was buzzing with people. I slung my carrying bag over my shoulder and casually walked up and into the city. There were merchants everywhere. People were selling and buying food, weapons, clothes, jewelry, everything. I wondered around the small city in awe. I had lived in the woods for a long time because for some reason it was the best place to find vampires.
"Come get your weapons sharpened and cleaned! Only 10 gold pieces! Sword, arrows, knives, everything!" A merchant shouted from a stand that had many weapons on it. I slowly approached the stand and looked at the weapons. Someone walked up next to me handed the merchant a ticket and the merchant pulled out a large sword and handed it to the person.
"May I help you young lady?" The merchant asked kindly. I looked up at him.
"I was thinking about getting my rapiers sharpened and cleaned." I said softly and quietly.
"It won't cost much. Just 10 gold coins." He said smiling at me.
"For both rapiers?" I asked shocked. He nodded.
"Shouldn't you charge 10 gold coins per weapon?" I asked quietly.
"Quiet child! This man prices his sharpening and cleaning wisely." A man snapped at me walking up to the stand and handing the merchant his sword.
"Does he not do a very good job?" I questioned.
"He does an excellent job!" The man said cheerfully.
"Then if he does an excellent job he should price it at 30 gold coins a weapon. At least that's the way it was at the last city I was in and at my home before I left." I stated. The man glared at me.
"We are a poor city. He prices it at what we can afford." The man snapped.
"And you think the last city I was in and my home were wealthy?" I snapped back. I lied my home was very very wealthy but that was only because my family did our leader's dirty work and we protected our whole nation, which this city lies in. Of course my home would be man who was arguing with me fell silent. When the merchant handed the man a ticket the merchant said
"It will be ready tomorrow afternoon." And the bitter man walked away.
"You are a wise young girl." The merchant said smiling. I shrugged. I unbuckled my rapiers and put them on the stand.
"Do you shine guns?" I asked quietly. The man raised an eyebrow.
"Guns are very expensive so not many people have them. I don't usually shine them but if someone does have one then I do." He stated. I nodded.
"Can you shine mine? I have quite a few and they are getting very disgusting." I said taking my bag off my shoulder.
"Tell me. How can you afford to have 'quite a few' guns?" The merchant questioned.
"Does it matter where I got them from?" I asked kindly. He shrugged. I opened my carrying bag and pulled out the many guns I held. I would have taken out the silver bullets but who goes and gets bullets shined?
"My my." The merchant said counting the guns.
"If I were to charge 30 gold per weapon you'd owe me quite an amount." The merchant chuckled to himself.
"Do you want to charge that?" I asked. The merchant looked at me surprised.
"Young lady you wouldn't happen to be some type of robber or bandit?" The merchant asked. I laughed.
"No sir." I said smiling. He sighed.
"Very well. 10 gold please." He said putting his hand out. I reached into my bag and pulled out 20 gold instead and handed it to him.
"This is 10 to many." He said counting the amount in his hand. I shrugged, closed my bag, and threw it on my shoulder. He gathered the guns and put them in a box that was under the stand. He grabbed my plain rapier and put it up against the side of the stand and grabbed my silver rapier. He then quickly pulled his hand away from the rapier and held his hand. My eyebrows furrowed as I looked at the rapier then at the merchant.
"Are you a vampire?" I asked through clenched teeth. He looked up at me shocked.
"How?" He questioned.
"My whole rapier, including it's shealth, is made of silver." His eyes widened.
"Whole rapier made of silver!? Then you must be!" He gasped.
"You know of me?" I asked with the same expression. He nodded.
"I am a nomad. I left my clan about 3 years ago and was warned to beware of you." He said sternly. I sighed. So I've been known longer then I thought... I thought sighing mentally.
"Please, do not kill me. I have not killed anyone. I do not feed off of humans but of animals. That is the life style I have chosen. I am trying to live like a normal human and have not hurt anyone in my long life. Please." He begged. I softened my expression.
"It's not like me to leave a vampire alive once I encounter one." I said. He looked at me with a desperate expression.
"But, since you apparently haven't hurt anyone in this city I'll spare you. If any vampire asks, you never met me. Don't ruin my reputation." I said sternly. His expression was filled with relief.
"Thank you." He sighed. I nodded. He pulled out a ticket and handed it to me.
"They'll be done in 3 days." He said grabbing the silver rapier with a cloth over his hand. I nodded and took the ticket. They're everywhere. I thought walking away from the stand.
I wondered around the city for about 4 hours before it started to get dark. I walked into a small inn and looked around. It was old fasioned but beautiful. The ceiling was pure wood and you could see the log beams that held the roof. Everything was wood. The windows were large. The outside was almsot as beautiful as the inside because it wasn't in the best part of the city. I walked up to the desk and waited patiently for someone to come up. A young girl with blonde hair walked up to the desk and pulled a book out from under the desk.
"May I help you?" She asked.
"Yeah, I would like a room for 5 days." I said tapping my fingers on the desk nervously.
"Okay, lets see what I have." She said flipping through her book. I looked around the inn a couple times. Why am I so nervous? I thought sighing and putting my hand on my forehead lifting up some stray locks of hair that were in front of my face.
"You're in luck. We have one room left." She said smiling at me. I smiled tiredly back.
"That will be 150 gold please." She said. I sighed and went into my bag. I counted out 150 gold and put it on the desk.
"Okay just sign in. Put down your name and age." She said sliding a book towards me. I wrote down my name and my age. Name: Adelina. Age: 18.
"Uhm, Miss. I need your full name." The girl said.
"I don't have a last name." I said looking at her.
"Everyone has a last name." She said confused.
"Not me. Can I just have the key to my room?" I asked smiling. She raised an eyebrow and picked up a key.
"S-sure. You're in room 318. The room on the top floor, down the main hall, to the left. It's the first one. " She said a little freaked out. I took the key and followed the directions the girl gave me. I unlocked the door to room 318, walked in and closed the door. The room was, small. Not as beautiful and elegant as the whole inn but it was nice.
I walked around the small city slowly. Enjoying the site of the city. The large groups of people crowded the thin roads. I squeezed through two people who had their backs to each other. This place is filled with stores. I thought looking around at the stands. Something strong shoved into my shoulder and made me stumble to the side.
"Watch it!" I shouted at a guy who had just rammed into me. He turned around and stared at me for a moment. He had long blond hair that went to the top of his ears but the tips of his hair were very uneven and some locks of hair covered his face, his eyes were green, and he had pale skin. Just by looking at him I could tell what he was. My glare hardened.
"What?" He asked. I went to reach for my rapier but then I remembered I had left it with that merchant to get it cleaned and sharpened.
"You. What are you doing in a city full of humans!?" I questioned. He raised both his eyebrows.
"What are you talking about?" He asked grinning and taking a step towards me. I took a step back and continued to glare at him.
"Don't play stupid. You know exactly what I'm talking about. You monster." I spat.
"Hm? Monster? That's not very nice. You don't even know me." He said kindly. I snorted.
"I know how your kind is." I snapped.
"My kind?" He asked taking another step closer to me.
"Stop playing games. Vampire." I said. His eyes got a little wide. Then he started to chuckle.
"I thought I was doing very well in blending in. How exactly did you know what I was?" He asked still chuckling. How did I know exactly what he was? I couldn't tell the merchant was a vampire. I thought asking myself that question.
"Pale skin." I stated. He laughed a little more.
"Is that all? My skin is pale and you automatically assume I'm a vampire?" He asked laughing.
"Well I was right wasn't I?" I spat.
"Yes you were but it's amazing how you could tell what I was with just pale skin." He laughed.
"I've encountered many of you." I said clenching my fists.
"Oh really? And you lived? Man you must be something." He chuckled.
"Why is it such a surprise that a human would live after having an encounter with a vampire?" I questioned.
"Well usually the vampire would kill them right when they meet them." I started to ponder. Why am I so defensive? I know the way vampires are with humans. I'm just able to kill them.
"I realize that but I guess I could be one exception." I laughed.
"Oh? And why is this?" He asked kindly. I grinned. I guess I should start boasting who I am. Since I have a title.
"I'm Adelina." I stated.
"Adelina?" He asked looking like he was pondering.
"The vampire killer huh?" He said rocking on his heels.
"That's correct"
"So. If you're so great and known to kill any vampire you see right when you see them. Why haven't you killed me?" He asked smirking.
"If I could I would but I don't have my weapons on me." I stated. He looked me up and down and his smirk got larger. I took another step back.
"I see. So you use weapons to kill the vampires you meet?" He asked still smirking.
"How else would I kill one?" I asked. He chuckled.
"You interest me, Adelina." He chuckled. I grimaced at the way he said my name.
"You better watch your back vampire." I snapped.
"Indeed I will. I can't wait until we meet again, Adelina. Until next time." He said smiling and then he disappeared. I locked my jaw and clenched my fists. Until next time... Why do all vampires say that? I thought walking away from the area I was at. I quickly walked up to the stand where the vampire merchant was.
"I need my weapons." I stated staring at him with a stern look. He looked up from the gun he was shining. My gun.
"They're not ready yet. After I was done with this gun I was going to move onto your silver rapier to get that out of the way so I didn't have to worry about it." He said looking up at me surprised.
"I realize that but." I said through clenched teeth. I drew in a breath of anger.
"How long will it take to sharpen and clean my silver rapier?" I questioned angerily.
"Probably about an hour." He said. I clenched my fists on the stand.
"Is everything alright?" He asked a little curious.
"Just give me my silver rapier. I'll bring it back when I'm done using it." I snapped. I froze when I realized at what I just revealed. He froze at what he was doing.
"Done. Using. It?" He asked. I sighed.
"It doesn't concern you. Just give me my silver rapier." I said staring at him with a stern expression.
"Another vampire in this city?" He asked looking down at my gun. His eyes widened.
"Please. Do not kill that vampire." He said quickly looking up at me.
"What?" I asked my eyes narrowing.
"That vampire you saw. He had blond hair and green eyes did he not?" The merchant asked. I stared at him with confusion.
"He is my good friend's son. He has come to stay with me. My friend would never forgive me if he gets killed especially when I could have prevented it." The merchant said. I sucked my teeth.
"You're going to ruin my reputation old man." I snapped. He smiled and laughed.
"Don't take that as a 'I will not kill him' comment." I stated. He still smiled.
"It's not a promise." I said walking away from the stand.
"To me it is." He said. I grumbled and walked through the crowds.
4 days later
I slung my bag on my shoulder and walked out of the room I was staying in. I locked the door and made my way to the front desk. Putting my key on the front desk I tapped it impatiently. The blond haired girl walked up to the desk and took the key with a smile.
"Did you have a nice stay here, Adelina?" She asked.
"Sure sure." I said waving and walking away. I exited the inn and quickly squeezed through the streets. I walked up to the weapon stand and waited for the vampire merchant to return from whatever he was doing. I slid to the ground and sat cross legged.
"Filthy peasant." I heard a man mumble as he walked past me.
"Watch who you're talking about!" I spat at him.
"Excuse me!?" He shouted walking back over to me.
"You heard me!" I shouted glaring up at him.
"Why you little!" He shouted and raised his foot. I stood my ground, sat my ground really, and kept glaring up at him. Suddenly someone appeared in front of me. The man's foot flew forward but the person in front of me stopped it.
"I'm sure it's not polite to hit women." The person in front of me said. That voice. I thought. I grunted.
"Why are you back here vampire?" I questioned.
"I'm sure you met my godfather. I'm pretty sure he explained to you that I'm staying with him." The vampire said turning his head slightly to look down at me. I glared at him.
"Vampire?" The man gasped.
"You betcha. You got a problem with it?" The blond vampire asked.
"N-no. Please don't kill me." The man begged. I started to laugh.
"You meet up with a vampire and the second thing you say to them is 'Please don't kill me'. Why would you assume I would kill you?" The vampire questioned.
"B-Because I-I'm human." The man stuttered.
"Well, I do not kill humans. If that disappoints you then I am truly sorry." The vampire said smiling.
"You don't kill humans!?" I asked standing up.
"If I did then I wouldn't have stopped this man from kicking you and I would have killed you 4 days ago." The vampire said looking back at me. I glared at him.
"If you tried to kill me you wouldn't be walking, breathing, or blinking right now. And I don't need a vampire's protection. I can take care of myself." I spat at him.
"Hm, it didn't look like you can handle yourself." The vampire said turning around and looking at me.
"Who do you think you're talking to?" I laughed evilly. The man that was gonna kick me tried to slowly walk away. The vampire reached out and grabbed the collar of the man's long coat.
"I'm not done with you yet." The vampire said still staring at me.
"Just let him go god." I said turning around and looking over the stand.
"Y-yeah. D-do what the girl says." The man said. The vampire turned his head and glared at the man.
"You. Can shut up." The vampire growled. I found my silver rapier wrapped up in a cloth right under the stand. I grabbed a hold of it, unwrapped it, unsheathed it, and quickly turned around.
"Let go of his collar." I said.
"What?" The vampire asked looking back at me.
"He's not who you think he is." I stated pointing my rapier at the man. The vampire let go of the man's collar and he quickly tried to take off. I bolted after him and stabbed him in the back with my silver rapier. I could hear him suppress a scream, like the vampire I had killed 5 days ago. I ripped the rapier out of his back and the man fell to the ground; dead.
"You really aren't a good vampire are you?" I asked walking up to the vampire who was now starring at me with wide eyes.
"I don't really know how to respond to that question." The vampire stated his eyes still wide but with a raised eyebrow.
"That man. Is, was, a vampire." I stated walking up to the stand where I left my sheath.
"No way." The vampire said astonished. I picked up my sheath and sheathed my rapier.
"Hm. You still haven't killed me." The vampire said. I quickly unsheathed my rapier again, spun around and stuck it to his throat. Just inches away from it.
"You're acting as if you want me to kill you." I stated. He laughed.
"Well, all the stories say you don't leave a vampire breathing after you encounter them." He said.
"Those are just stories. I just have a way to keep that reputation going." I stated. He chuckled.
"A person who lives to kill doesn't kill the people she supposedly wonders around killing?" He asked.
"I do kill the vampires I encounter. It just so happens you and your 'god father' are the only vampires I have no killed yet. It's not wrong to leave a couple alive you know"
"So then you don't live to kill vampires. If you do then I'd be dead right now along with my god father." The vampire stated. I grimaced and lowered my rapier.
"You could say I'm loosing my edge." I said sheathing my rapier yet again.
"Loosing your edge? Hm. And what exactly is that?" He asked.
"It's none of your concern." I said. He laughed.
"Would it possibly be, the fact that your family was killed by vampires?" He asked with an evil grin. My eyes widened.
"How did you know about that!?" I shouted.
"Rumors go around and the fact that I, in a way, know one of the vampires that were there at your home when they killed your family." He said still grinning. I tightened my grip that I had on the hilt of my rapier.
"In a way know one of them?" I asked through clenched teeth. He nodded.
"What exactly do you mean by in a way?" I asked.
"I don't know. I think I might leave you wondering who and how I know them." He said his grin widening.
"If you want to die then you can leave it like that but if you want to live then I suggest you tell me who you know and what they are to you." I stated.
"What? Are you hunting them down?" He asked dropping his grin and acting like he cared. I glared at him.
"Ah. I'm going to take that as a yes." He said laughing.
"Tell me who they are." I snapped.
"Hm. I don't think it'd be far. I don't care much for him but he, for some reason, cares for me." He said like he was thinking.
"You're pissing me off." I stated.
"I am? Good." He said smiling. A growl escaped my throat.
"Fine fine. I guess I should tell you. Since he's going to be apart of another massacre. See that's why I don't care for him. He hurts humans and humans they. They fascinate me." He said. I continued to glare at him knowing that no matter how much I demanded him to tell me he was going to keep stalling.
"The man is my father." He finally said. I almost lost it. I was close to ripping my rapier out of it's sheath, for the third time today, and just shoving it in his abdomen but his god father came out right when my left hand slid to the sheath and my right hand grabbed the hilt of the rapier.
"Please, let's talk inside. That way if you kill my godson there won't be that many witness." The merchant said.
"You are just so protective aren't you god father?" The vampire asked walking past me and then his god father. I kept my tight hold on my rapier ready to pull it out at any moment and followed the merchant into a small house.
"Please sit Adelina." The merchant said gesturing to a chair.
"I'd rather not"
"Oh don't be shy. We don't bite." The young blond vampire said ginning as he sat down in a chair near a fire place. I made a face and slowly sat down eying both of them.
"Now you two were talking about who Demetri knew that was in the group that killed your family." The old merchant said.
"Demetri?" I asked as my eyebrows furrowed.
"Right. I wasn't able to properly introduce myself. My name is Demetri." He said putting his hand out towards me. I glared at him and didn't take his hand. He pulled it back and sat back in his chair.
"Demetri, why don't you continue saying what you were saying before I interrupted you." The merchant said smiling at Demetri.
"Well I was going to torment her a little more." Demetri said grinning.
"And I was going to kill you but we can't always get what we want." I snapped at him. He looked taken back and sighed.
"My father was apart of the group that killed your family. In fact you know him." Demetri stated. The glare I held on my face faded into a confused one.
"You saved his life when you were very young and in return he saved your life when they massacred your home." Demetri said. My eyes got wide and filled with anger.
"Him!? He's your father!?" I yelled. Demetri nodded. Now I was definitely going to kill him. Promise or not to the old man. This guy. This vampire. This monster! Is the son of another monster I thought I could trust. Of a monster who betrayed me and ruined my life. Who I hated with a passion. I clenched my fists and was about to grab my silver rapier.
"He does not deserve to die." The merchant spoke. I looked over at the merchant with a glare.
"He has never harmed a human. It just isn't in his nature to. He does not deserve to die for his father's mistakes." The merchant said.
"You never know people can change." I spat.
"Like you did?" Demetri asked.
"Do not talk about me like you know me monster! You know nothing about me, my life, or how I used to be!" I shouted standing up; with my sheathed rapier in my hand.
"Or do I?" He asked standing up as well. I glared at him with daggers in my eyes.
"You don't and I suggest you shut your mouth before you forever regret it." I snapped. Demetri merely chuckled.
"You've threatened to kill me several times already. 4 days ago you said you'd kill me next time you saw me and yet here I am still alive." H said smiling. I stayed quiet.
"I think you don't want to kill me. Something about me you like and you don't want to kill me." He said shoving his hands in his pockets.
"Like I said I lost my edge but you're close to bringing it back." I stated.
"Oh really? So who are you going to kill first when I do? Me or my god father?" He questioned seeming angry now. I turned around and stormed out of the small house. I stuffed my guns in my bag and buckled both my rapiers onto my waist. Then I left the city.
7 months later
I stabbed my silver rapier into the back of a vampire. The last vampire in the group that had tried to ambush me. In the last seven months my reputation in the vampire world has gotten worse or in my case better. They now have a reward out for any vampire to kill me or bring me back to their main city.
I ripped my rapier out of the vampire and he fell forward.
"Can they get any weaker?" I asked myself with a sigh.
"No but they can get stronger." A deep voice said from behind me. I turned around but it was to late. I was smashed up against a tree and my silver rapier hit the ground. In front of me was a tall dark haired vampire. He laughed at the apparent pain I was in. A short stubby low branch on the tree I was slammed into went right into my back. Though it didn't break skin it still hurt like hell.
"To think. A girl so strongly feared in the vampire city could be brought down so easily." The dark haired vampire chuckled slowly walking up to me. I stood up and used the tree as support.
"It was a cheap shot." I said sternly.
"There are no cheap shots in wars, darling." The dark haired man said. I grimaced at how he called me 'darling'.
"Don't worry I won't kill you. I'll bring you to the main city and let them figure out your punishment. Of course theirs would be ten times worse then what I would do." He said stopping in front of me.
"Oh really?" I asked. He chuckled and nodded.
"Well, their punishment and murder of me won't be half as bad as how I'm going to kill you!" I shouted before slipping past him. He stared at me with a surprised expression. The vampire appeared in front of my silver rapier. I smirked and again slipped past him. I grabbed my bag, pulled out a gun, slipped in 3 silver bullets, closed it and pressed the trigger. The first bullet missed the vampire causing him to laugh darkly. I pointed the gun at him and shot the gun again. This time the bullet hit him. First he stared at the blood dripping down his arm with a bored expression and then horror hit his face. His jaw locked and he clenched his fists.
"Why doesn't anyone let out a scream anymore? It doesn't make anything fun." I giggled standing up and walking up to the frozen vampire.
"You're demented." The vampire spat.
"Ha!" I laughed.
"There are worse then me." I said circling him. A click came from the gun and I pointed it at his head. The tip of it touching his hair.
"Any last words before you die by my bullet?" I asked darkly.
"No." He said and with that I pulled the trigger. The vampire fell to his knees and then to the ground. I unloaded the gun and picked up my silver rapier. Packing my bag; I walked away from the lifeless bodies of the vampires.
"This is an outrage! I sent my best men out to kill that girl or bring her back here and they've failed!" The vampire king shouted in anger.
"Sir, the girl is very strong and fast. Plus she carries a silver rapier at her side and silver bullets for her guns." The king's main adviser said.
"I don't care! Send the Roman family out!" The king shouted standing up from his throne.
"But sir! If they get killed then who is going to guard our city from the humans?" The adviser asked.
"They will not get killed! They are the strongest family in this city! But send them the word that I want her alive! The council will decide her punishment!" The king shouted.
"As you wish, sir." The adviser said. He bowed and quickly walked out.
The adviser left the vampire palace and headed to the Roman family's grand house. He knocked on the door and waited impatiently for someone to answer. He banged on the door.
"Yes yes what is it?" A butler snapped opening the door. His eyes widened at who was at the door.
"Adviser. I am sorry for being so rude." The butler said bowing.
"I need to talk to the head of the Roman family at once!" The adviser snapped.
"Yes sir! Of course sir! Follow me sir!" The butler said walking away from the door. The adviser followed the butler up a grand staircase down a large hall and up to two gold double doors. The butler opened the two double doors and backed away bowing.
"Who is disturbing me!?" A deep dark voice shouted.
"The adviser." The adviser said walking further into the study. A tall thin man stood up from a desk.
"What is it?" The tall thin man asked.
"The king wants you and your family to hunt down Adelina." The adviser said sternly.
"Adelina?" The tall thin man asked as his eyebrows furrowed. The adviser nodded.
"Who is this Adelina?" The tall thin man questioned. The adviser looked at him astonished.
"She is the girl who has been killing every vampire she has met. Adelina the vampire killer." The adviser said with an astonished tone.
"Ah, yes. That clears up my memory. Do you have a picture of her?" The thin man asked sitting down. The adviser shook his head.
"What about what she looks like?" The thin man asked furrowing his eyebrows again.
"We don't have a positive description on her. Some vampires said she has black hair and brown eyes others say she has blond hair and green eyes. The most positive description we have is that she has brown hair and blue eyes." The adviser said.
"How can you not have a picture or a description of a girl who has killed hundreds of vampires?" The thin man snapped.
"No vampire has lived to come back and tell us what she looks like." The adviser said.
"Then how do you know her name?" The thin man asked.
"The king sent a vampire to find out what was happening to the vampires he sent out to spy on the humans. Before the vampire was killed he was able to gather information on the matter and on who was killing them. He sent out a message." Adviser stated.
"And he gave the name and description"
"Yes"
"When does the king want my family and I to leave?"
"As soon as possible. Adelina has already killed the hunter family but bring her back alive." The adviser stated. The tall thin man nodded and then the adviser left.
I stared down at the food cart I was standing in front of in this large city. All the food was rotten.
"Are you going to buy something or just stand there?" An old man snapped.
"All this food is rotten." I stated picking a piece of old brown fruit up.
"If you don't like the products then leave." The old man said snatching the piece of fruit from my hand and putting it back on the cart.
"Hey. Be nice to the lady." A young man said walking up next to me. He had long brown hair and hazel eyes and looked to be in about his early 20s.
"She insulted me!" The old man shouted.
"As I recall she insulted your food not you." The young man said laughing. The old man started to grumble.
"Are you going to buy something!?" The old man shouted. The young man standing next to me searched through the rotten food. He picked up a couple good pieces of fruit, vegetables, and some bread.
"I'll take these." He said handing them to the old man. I picked a piece of fruit up and looked it over. God this guy is a cheap skate. I thought putting the fruit back down.
"That'll be 50 gold." The old man said.
"You're charging him 50 gold for rotten food!?" I shouted in disbelief.
"I don't think it's any of your business girl." The old man spat. I glared at him and walked away from the stand.
"Hey wait!" The young man said running after me. I stopped walking and turned around to face him.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"Here." He said taking my hand and putting the little food he bought.
"No it's yours." I said shaking my head.
"No I bought it for you." He said a little out of breath. I blushed a little.
"Thanks but you didn't have to." I said putting some of the food into my bag but keeping the bread. I ripped it in half and handed him a piece.
"Thanks." He said laughing. I nodded.
"So what's that old man's deal?" I asked motioning my head towards the stand that was far behind us.
"I don't know. Maybe you get meaner the older you get." He said laughing.
"How old is he?" I asked biting into the stale piece of bread.
"He looks 200 but he's really 70." He said smiling. I laughed a little.
"How could you find half decent food in that cart? I was searching for a while." I asked taking another bite out of the bread. He shrugged.
"It's the only place to get food in this run down city. So you have to have a good eye for good produce and such." He said smiling.
"Only place to get food? This city is huge how is there no other place to get food?" I asked staring up at the guy.
"The only good food is past the palace walls. Where the wealthy families live. All the merchants who have good food go there since that's where the money is. That old prune back there has horrible produce so he stays here and charges high prices. To make a living like the rest of us." He said shrugging.
"Oh." I said sadly.
"But no worries! We're all happy!" He said trying to cheer up the mood. I smiled up at him.
"Ah. My manners are horrible." He said shaking his head and looking down.
"Huh?" I asked staring at him in confusion and raising an eyebrow.
"I never properly introduced myself. My name is Daniel Walker." He said putting his hand out to me.
"Adelina." I said shaking his hand.
"Adelina. That's a beautiful name." He said smiling down at me. I couldn't help but blush again.
"So, what is someone like you doing in a city like this?" He asked clearing his throat.
"Traveling. You know seeing the sights." I said shrugging. Lies. I thought.
"Sorry but this place is an eye sore. Nothing really to see here." He said chuckling. I laughed.
"It's nice. Plus I've been traveling for a while so it was nice to find a city." I said smiling.
"Oh well there are a couple inns here. Not so. Nice." He said clearing his throat at nice.
"Do you want me to escort you to them?" He asked kindly.
"I'm not really ready to go to an inn yet. I just want to wonder around and check out the city." I said looking around.
"Are you looking for anything in particular?" He asked curiously.
"Uhm, yeah. Would there perhaps be a weapon sharpener and shiner?" I asked looking up at him. He raised an eyebrow and then his eyes wondered down to both my rapiers.
"Oh you use rapiers?" He asked surprised. I nodded.
"Are you good?" He asked grinning.
"You could say that." I said shrugging and smiling not wanting to boast.
"Well, Miss Adelina. Would you like to have a duel?" He asked stopping and bowing to me. I giggled.
"A duel?" I asked still laughing. He smiled up at me.
"Why yes Sir Daniel. I would love to have a duel." I said acting like I was curtsying, it would have been better if I was wearing a skirt or a dress. He chuckled.
"Shall we go?" He asked putting his arm out to me.
"Go where?" I asked laughing and locking my arm into his.
"This city is known for their swordsmen! We have a dueling ground!" He said with pride.
"Oh, very nice." I asked acting like I was impressed. He laughed and guided me along the large streets.
Shortly after we arrived at a fenced in area where swords, armor, and such lay. There were only a couple people there and they were all men.
"Hey Daniel! Got a new woman I see." One of the men shouted. I pouted and could feel myself heat up. Daniel laughed.
"No Alexander. This is my friend Adelina. She knows a little bit of swordsman ship. So out of curiosity of how good she may be I decided to challenge her to a duel." Daniel explained.
"A woman? Knowing about swordsman ship? Ha, can't be that good." Another man said jumping down from the fence. I glared at him.
"Well, we'll just have to see." Daniel said chuckling and slowly unlocking our arms. He opened the gate to the short fence and we both walked in.
"She better not cry when she gets hurt or breaks a nail." A different man said.
"Don't mind them. They're a little sexist." Daniel muttered to me.
"I've noticed." I mumbled back. He laughed.
"Drop your bag anywhere. Do you want to fight double or single?" He said walking to the middle of the barren land.
"Double or single?" I asked dropping my bag on the floor.
"Swords. Two swords or one?" He asked. I looked down at the two rapiers attached to my waist. I don't want to damage or break my silver rapier. I thought biting onto my bottom lip.
"Single." I said pulling my silver rapier and it's sheath out from the belt it hung on.
"Alright then." Daniel said grabbing a sword that was leaning on the side of the fence.
"I promise that I'll have your rapier repaired when I break it." Daniel said grinning at me as he threw the large sword's sheath to the side. I laughed.
"Right." I said laughing.
"Hold on!" One man said as I walked to the middle of the dueling ground.
"Why not make this interesting?" He asked. Daniel raised an eyebrow and so did I.
"Make a bet." The man said shrugging. Daniel pondered for a moment.
"Alright then. If I win you go out to dinner with me." Daniel said winking at me. I blushed.
"What if I win?" I asked still blushing.
"I'll go to dinner with you?" He said in question form.
"Not much of a reward." I stated. He laughed.
"Then what?" He asked. I thought about it for a moment.
"I could use another rapier." I said tapping my chin with my index finger.
"Another? You already have two. Why would you need three?" Daniel asked. I shrugged.
"A young girl can't be to prepared while traveling alone." I said smiling.
"Alright then. If you win I'll take you to get a new rapier and if I win we go out to dinner." Daniel said grinning.
"It's a deal." I said brightening my smile. I'm going to have my own rapier instead of my fathers. Excellent. I thought happily.
"Let's begin shall we?" Daniel said. I nodded.
"To be nice I'll let you take the first swing." He said smiling.
"Now who's sexist." I laughed. I bolted forward and swung my sword quickly. Daniel brought his large sword up and easily blocked the attack.
"Not very quick are you?" He asked grinning. I pouted. I spun around and tried to hit his shoulder. He blocked again. A growl came from my throat. I forgot my patience is low when I don't win right away. I thought calming myself down. I jumped back a little. Daniel charged at me and brought his sword up. I put my palm on the flat part of my rapier's blade and blocked Daniel's sword before he was able to bring it up and slice me in two. I repositioned my sword so the two blades were parallel, both flat parts facing each other, and quickly shoved it towards his abdomen, my favorite spot when attacking someone, mainly a vampire, it's not a vital point and they slowly die. Daniel quickly moved his sword and placed it in front of his stomach before my blade could pierce it. The tip of my blade was now touching the flat part of his very large sword.
"Nice try." He chucked. I raised both my eyebrows and looked down at our blades. A crack ripped through the large blade. Then another crack and another. Then the blade broke in half and my blade went right through it. I could tell Daniel was expecting the pain of my rapier going through his stomach because he quickly shut his eyes tightly and locked his jaw bracing himself. When my rapier didn't pierce his stomach he opened one eye and looked down. My blade was inches away from his stomach. If he were to take in a breath then the tip of the blade would go into his stomach. He held his breath and stared at the blade with wide eyes. Then he looked up at me, still not breathing and with wide eyes. I pulled my rapier away from his stomach and put it in my sheath.
"Looks like I win." I said smiling. All the men that were at the dueling grounds stared at me with the same expression as Daniel. He let out a breath and looked down at his broken sword. Half of it was still attached to the hilt and the other half was lying on the ground.
"How?" He asked astonished.
"I got my rapier's sharpened in the last city I was in. I haven't used this one yet since then. The sharpener there was very skillful." I said smiling.
"My god." He said letting out another long breath. I laughed.
"Looks like you owe me a new rapier." I said happily.
"Looks like I do." He said looking at his broken sword again.
"I was really looking forward to that dinner too." He sighed. I pushed my bottom lip out to make it look like an overly dramatic frown and pulled it back when I smiled.
"I can't use any of these swords to fight." I whined putting the rapier back down on the stand.
"Why not?" Daniel asked picking another one up.
"They're old. They're damaged. Rusted. Broken. And look at the blade, that won't make a clean cut; more like break as soon as it touches the person's body." I said taking the rapier from his hand.
"This is the best we have. I could repair the one that you buy." He suggested shrugging.
"How long will that take?" I asked putting the rapier in my hand down on the stand and picking up another one.
"3 weeks. Possibly a month." He said.
"To long. I don't stay in one place for as long at that. The maximum time I've spent in one place would be 5 days." I said shaking my head.
"For a traveler you're pretty pressed on time. Are you trying to get to a place in a certain amount of time?" He asked curiously.
"No." I said shaking my head innocently. It's just the vampires want me dead or want me to be brought back to their city and probably will kill anyone that gets in their way. I thought looking the rapier over.
"What about behind the palace walls?" I asked.
"What"
"You said that behind the palace walls was where all the money is. So there must be better rapier merchants over there with excellent rapiers." I said putting the broken rapier down and walking away from the stand.
"But it's really expensive to get in." Daniel said following me.
"How much?" I asked looking back at him as he tried to catch up to me.
"1,000 gold. Per person." He stated. I shrugged and continued to walk towards the large walls that were at the back of the city.
"There's no way you can afford that." He said walking up next to me.
"Oh really?" I asked raising one eyebrow. He eyed me suspiciously.
"Hold it there you two!" A guard said walking up to Daniel and I as we tried to walk through the open gate that lead behind the palace walls.
"Yes?" I asked innocently.
"You need to pay." The guard said resting his sword on his shoulder.
"How much?" I asked.
"2,000 gold each." The guard spat.
"2,000!? It's 1,000!" Daniel shouted getting in the guards face.
"Well the price went up. 2,000 each." The guard said grinning.
"You just let those other people in for 1,000!" Daniel retorted.
"Well they matter." The guard said.
"We don't?" I asked pushing Daniel away from the guard a little.
"No. You peasants don't matter." The guard snapped at me.
"Peasants? Tell me sir have you heard of the Ciora family?" I questioned.
"Of course! The defenders of our nation but they were massacred by vampires 10 years ago! The only one th"
"The only one that survived was their leader's daughter. Adelina Ciora." I stated glaring at him.
"I know I know! Why do you bring this up!?" The guard shouted annoyed.
"Because I am Adelina Ciora. So I suggest you give us the fair price to get into the palace." I said sternly.
"Ha! You expect me to believe that you, a mere peasant, is Adelina Ciora!?" The guard laughed. My eyebrows furrowed. I grabbed my silver rapier and pulled the sheath, and the rapier, out of the belt. I put the sheath directly in his face and there on it was my family's crest. A lion holding a rapier in it's teeth. The guard gasped and bowed his head.
"You may enter without payment." The guard said with fright in his eyes. I put my rapier back in the belt and walked forward.
"You on the other hand have to pay." The guard said putting a hand on Daniel's shoulder.
"Nonsense. He's with me. If I don't have to pay then he doesn't." I spat. The guard grumbled and let go of Daniel's shoulder. Daniel jogged to catch up with me.
"Ciora! Ciora!?" Daniel shouted in disbelief. I shrugged.
"Why didn't you mention your last name when you told me your name was Adelina?" He questioned.
"I don't usually flaunt who I am. Plus I dropped my surname when I left my home 10 years ago. I'm just Adelina now." I said shrugging again.
"So why did you just flaunt who you were back there!?" He questioned in more disbelief.
"He was being unfair. Just because the people before us were somebodies he let them go with 1,000 gold payment and then he dares to charge us 2,000 gold payment? Ha! I can't stand such injustice." I stated.
"Ciora!? Why were you still in the city when you could have easily gotten into the palace walls and stay here where it's better. And your clothing is tattered! I don't understand and more or less believe you're Adelina Ciora!" Daniel shouted.
"Keep it down. You're going to attract attention to us." I said in a musical tone. He huffed.
"I told you. I don't usually flaunt who I am. My clothes are tattered because I've been traveling." I stated.
"Traveling? Why? You have a grand house in a large city"
"I had a grand house. I left it 10 years ago and I'm traveling for a reason. A reason I'm not going to share with you." I said with a sigh.
"And why not?" He questioned.
"Because it's to dangerous for you to know." I said waving the topic off.
"Dangerous? For me? You're acting like I'm weak and defenseless! You've seen me fight!" He said disgraced.
"I've fought you and to tell you the truth you suck." I said laughing. He glared at me.
"Is that the rapier merchant?" I asked moving back and forth and standing on my tippy toes to look over the giant crowd that was standing in front of a stand with rapiers, swords, daggers, and knives.
"Weapon merchant but yeah he sells rapiers." Daniel said nodding.
"Cool!" I said excitedly. I bolted forward to get to the stand quickly.
"Adelina wait up!" Daniel shouted running after me. I stopped with a jolt as soon as I got to the stand. Daniel soon stopped next to me out of breath. I stood in front of the stand and stared down at it in awe. The rapiers, swords, daggers and knives were beautiful. One particular rapier caught my eye. It was magnificent and elegant. The knuckle and inner guard were shaped so beautifully no word could describe it. The pommel had an emerald gemstone on it on both sides. The knuckle and inner guard were shining gold. The blade was sharp, long, and shinning. All in all the rapier was magnificent.
"May I help you two?" A fat man asked from behind the stand.
"How much is that rapier?" I quickly asked pointing to the beautiful rapier I was admiring and looking up at the fat man.
"Oh, much to expensive for you and to heavy. I would suggest, for you, this dagger." He said smiling and holding out a small dagger. I pouted in frustration.
"I didn't ask about that dagger. I asked about that rapier." I said pointing at the rapier again. The side of the fat man's mouth twitched as he forced himself to keep smiling at my rudeness.
"It is 5,000 gold." He said still smiling. I looked down at it with admiration. I can afford that but it'll be a lot of my gold. I'll have to start working so I can keep my amount of gold high. I thought dropping my stare.
"I'll take it!" I beamed smiling brightly. The fat man frowned.
"Why not consider the dagger? Much much better for someone like...you." He said smiling again. I glared at him.
"How about I hand you the gold, you hand me the rapier, and I go on my way?" I snapped leaning forward and giving him a menacing glare. He went back to frowning.
"I don't think you can afford this rapier girl." The fat man stated.
"Well I didn't ask if you thought I could afford it or not. Truth be told I could care less on what you think. Now are you going to sell my the rapier or not? Cause if you don't you'll be losing a fairly good deal because I don't think anyone will pay that much for a rapier." I stated frowning as well. He started to grumble.
"Fine." He muttered. He took the rapier off of the stand put a sheath on it along with a strap to hold it and handed it to me. I pulled out my pouch of gold that I knew held exactly 5,000 gold and handed it to him, taking the rapier from him.
"Hold on. Let me count this before you run off. For all I know it could be less then what I am asking for." He said putting a hand up. I rolled my eyes and waited impatiently in front of the stand holding the rapier at my side. Just to be sure he wasn't going to try and con me out of more money I counted along with him. When he was done counting he started to grumble even more.
"Very well. You can go." The fat man grumbled loaded the gold into the pouch and stuffing it in his pocket. I smiled and walked away. Daniel followed close behind quietly.
"Isn't this rapier amazing Daniel?" I beamed happily unsheathing the rapier and admiring the blade.
"You paid far to much and that man was rude and ignorant. He didn't deserve half the kindness and patience you showed towards him." Daniel muttered furious. I looked back at him.
"Oh don't worry. It may have been a lot of gold but it was an excellent purchase! Plus this rapier was fairly under priced." I giggled.
"Under priced?" Daniel asked still with fury in his voice. I nodded still giggling.
"This gold on the guards is pure gold and this gemstone is most definitely real. That fat man didn't know what he was selling! This rapier should have been priced at 4,000,000 gold! I should be thankful that he was so foolish." I said smiling brightly. Daniel chuckled all hint of fury gone.
"You sure know a lot about rapiers and how they should be priced." He chuckled. I nodded.
"My father made me learn a lot about weapons and such. So I wouldn't be coned if I was sent out to hunt down a fugitive and if my weapon broke. Really if anyone was coned back there it was me coning him. I should have told him how much this rapier is worth but then he would raise the price and I would never be able to afford it and that would make me quite upset." I said putting the rapier back in it's sheath. I loosened the strap that the sheath was attached to and slung it over my shoulder. Then I tightened the strap a little so it fit comfortably over my chest.
"Now, we shouldn't waste our time. What shall we do while we still in the palace quarters?" I asked turning to face Daniel but still walking. He shrugged.
"Never thought about what I would do if I was ever able to get into the palace walls." I turned around and started to look around. Then I noticed another weapon merchant this time he only had rapiers.
"Let's go check that stand out! There might be another good rapier under priced!" I said happily running up to the stand. Daniel ran along with me. A lot of people were gathered around the stand and most of them were whispering in awe.
"Excuse me but would you be so kind to tell me what's going on?" I asked kindly to a woman standing next to me.
"Some man claims to have a rapier from the Ciora household, the great protectors of our nation who were slaughtered." The woman whispered. I looked at her in shock and tried to look over the people.
"Is it possible?" Daniel muttered so quietly that I could barely hear him and I was standing right next to him not to mention he had leaned down to whisper it in my ear.
"No. I took all the rapiers from my clan with me. My father had the only two my clan used. One was passed down for generations." I said gesturing to my plain rapier.
"And the other was specially made to kill vampires." I said gesturing to the silver rapier.
"That's all?" Daniel asked. I nodded.
"My family destroyed their rapiers when guns were made and I took all of the guns I could carry without hassle. There's no way this man can have a rapier from my family. If he so happened to have found one there is no way he could tell it was from my family." I stated still trying to look over the crowd.
"Well come on. Let's try to get through." Daniel said shoving through the crowd pulling me along. Finally we broke through and were at the front. There was a good amount of space between the man, the stand, and the crowd.
"I am telling you this is from the Ciora family! It has the crest and everything!" The man shouted.
"And I'm telling you that the family got rid of all their rapiers and started to use guns! They destroyed the rapiers so no one else could have them since they were so skillfully made!" The merchant shouted.
"But the leader of their family kept his rapier and had another one made when vampires were discovered! I have the one that was his first!" The man shouted holding the rapier up.
"Is it one of your family member's swords?" Daniel asked quietly.
"No." I said shaking my head.
"There is no way you have such a rapier!" The merchant shouted.
"I am telling the truth! It has the crest on the sheath! This rapier is easily worth over 10,000,000 gold!" The man shouted with a bright smile.
"Are you going to expose him?" Daniel questioned. I laughed.
"I want to know how much further this man is willing to take it." I said laughing even more.
"This rapier's blade can easily cut through any large sword's blade in the matter of seconds!" The man shouted happily.
"3 minutes. Not seconds." I muttered secretly correcting him.
"So you knew your rapier would break my sword from the start?" Daniel questioned bitterly. I giggled.
"Pretty much so." I said still giggling.
"You're evil." He said with a sigh. I giggled again.
"I will duel anyone with this sword and they will surly loose!" The man said with pride.
"Then duel me." I said speaking up from the crowd and stepping forward.
"Adelina." Daniel muttered in a warning tone.
"You?" The man laughed.
"I do know a good amount of information on the Ciora families rapier's myself." I said shrugging.
"Oh yeah?" The man questioned. I nodded.
"If you know as much as I then you would know that that blade can't be cut through no matter what correct?" I asked stepping even further forward.
"Yes! Of course I would know that!" The man said raising the rapier again.
"Okay then. If you're trying to prove that that rapier is indeed the leader's sword then duel me. You'll be able to break through my rapier's blade in the matter of seconds, or so you say. Of course I heard personally that the blade takes 3 minutes but of course my source could be wrong." I said shrugging.
"Alright then! I shall duel you young lady!" The man said unsheathing the rapier he held. I nodded.
"Daniel would you be so kind to hold my stuff?" I asked turning around and facing Daniel. He shrugged then nodded. I smiled at him and removed my bag. I handed it to him then removed my new rapier and the belt that held my 2 old rapiers. I unsheathed my father's rapier and walked to the middle of the crowd.
"See this rapier in action and watch as it will cut through that blade!" The man said with great confidence. I suppressed a laugh. The man swung the blade and I blocked it with mine. I threw his blade off of mine and spun around. I swung the sword and he blocked my attack easily. I quickly slid my rapier down to the flat part of his blade and smiled.
"Well this fight is over." I heard Daniel say. A loud crack echoed through the now silent palace. Then another and soon the man's rapier shattered and half his blade fell to the ground. My blade shot through his and almost stabbed him in the chest but I pulled the rapier back.
"A Ciora family rapier." I snorted and rolled my eyes. The man glared at me.
"His blade was a fake and only that. This man should be arrested for trying to con this merchant." I said motioning my head over to the cart.
"The only blade that is a fake is yours!" The man shouted pointing his broken blade at me.
"I never claimed it to be any type of rapier but it is clear that your rapier was a fake considering my blade cut through it. The true rapier of the Ciora family would not have shattered like that." I stated blankly.
"Young lady, how did your blade cut through his blade?" The merchant asked staring at my blade. I walked over to the merchant and showed him the blade. On it, skillfully carved into the blade, was the crest of my family.
"The rapier that belongs to the Ciora family has the crest carved into the blade not the sheath. The only rapier that had the crest carved into it's sheath was the rapier that was made when the vampires were discovered." I stated pulling the rapier away.
"But how? The rapiers of the Ciora family were destroyed." The merchant gasped.
"Not all the rapiers." I stated simply and walked away.
"Thank you for holding my stuff." I said smiling at Daniel as I walked up to him.
"It was my pleasure." He said smiling. I sheathed the rapier I held attached the belt around my waist, pulled the other rapier's strap over my head and rested it on my shoulder, strapped that down comfortably, and slung my bag on my shoulder.
"Uhm, Daniel." I said as we walked through the city.
"Yeah"
"I think it's time I start going." I said rocking on my heels as we stopped.
"Start going?" He asked raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah. I've got a lot of traveling to do." I said smiling innocently.
"But it's almost dark it's to dangerous." He said shaking his head. Dark. The best time of day for me to travel.
"I have to get going. Sorry Daniel. I had a lot of fun though." I said smiling. He shook his head again.
"I won't allow it." He said still shaking his head.
"You won't allow it? Daniel you can't tell me what to do and what not to do." I said angerily.
"I'm a friend and I say I won't allow it under concern for your safety. It's to dangerous out there." He said sternly.
"I'm sorry Daniel. Weather you're against it or not I'm leaving. If I can I'll come back and visit." I said sternly. He clenched his fists.
"See you later Daniel." I said kindly and walked away from him. He stood there still clenching his fists and not saying a word.
The click of my gun was the only sound in the still forest. A group of doe and buck were eating at a river's edge. I raised my gun and pointed it at a buck.
"What are you doing?" A familiar voice said into my ear. I jumped and accidentally shot the gun. The bullet missed the buck by a couple feet and the loud noise from the gun scared them all off. I turned around and pointed the gun at the person the voice came from. The person raised both his hands up and took a step back.
"What I do?" He asked grinning.
"What are you doing here!?" I shouted furious.
"What a guy can't take a stroll through the forest?" He asked smirking. I growled.
"I thought I left you in the small city with your god father, Demetri." I snapped. He chuckled.
"What's so funny?" I spat. He shrugged.
"Come on. I thought you had a lot more common sense. Think about it. I'm a vampire. It's night. It's a forest." He said naming a list of things. A click came from my gun and Demetri took another step back.
"Hey. I'm not going to kill or hurt you if that's what you're thinking. If I was going to I would have done it while you were distracted with those deer." He stated. I glared at him.
"I came to hunt also. That's what I'm doing here." He said lowering his hands.
"You came to hunt? Hunt what!?" I questioned.
"The same thing you were hunting. Oh and great job on scaring them off." He said, a sarcastic tone on the last part.
"It wasn't my fault! You're the one that scared me shitless!" I yelled.
"Hm. Adelina the vampire killer getting scared by a vampire? Sounds a little suspicious." He said sarcastically.
"The only reason why I got scared by you was because I didn't sense your presence. Nor did I hear you." I stated lowering my gun slowly.
"Oh you didn't? Then my hunting skills are getting better and better." He said laughing and smiling mischievously. I quickly raised my gun again.
"Oh come on we both know you're not going to shoot me so drop the gun." He said annoyed. I glared at him. I moved the gun a couple inches to the side and pulled the trigger. He jumped at the sudden bang. I smirked.
"Don't do that!" He shouted furious. I laughed.
"Did I scare ya?" I asked grinning. He growled.
"Next time I won't move the gun and I'll make sure I do shoot you." I stated angerily. He laughed.
"Why are you following me?" I questioned.
"I'm not following you I told you I was hunting." He stated.
"Is that why I saw you in the last city I was in?" I asked. Let's see if I can get him to admit to something. I thought slyly.
"How the hell did you see me?" He asked as his eyes narrowed.
"I didn't but thanks for letting me know that you were following me." I said smirking. He opened his mouth to say something but stopped to think.
"You. Didn't see me?" He asked raising an eyebrow.
"No." I laughed. He glared at me and growled again.
"Lower the gun." He ordered.
"Why?" I asked still smirking and laughing.
"So I can hit you without worrying you're going to shoot me!" He shouted angerily.
"Oh yeah that's really going to get me to lower the gun. Mhhm. Sure." I said sarcastically. He bared his teeth.
"Adelina." He said calmly. I could feel my heart jump when he said my name. What was that!? Why did that just happen!? I thought mentally slapping me.
"Why haven't you killed me yet?" He asked kindly. Why haven't I killed him yet? I thought repeating his question.
"I-I." I stuttered pondering over the question. Kill! My father's voice shouted in my head. My eyes widened. No... I thought in objection. You must kill! His voice yelled. Why? I thought. To avenge your family! This boy is that man's son! He deserves to die! His voice screamed. I shook my head. Why am I having an argument with a disembodied voice? I thought with a mental sigh.
"Adelina?" My heart jumped again. Stop that heart! I thought annoyed.
"What!?" I snapped. He blinked a couple times.
"You didn't answer my question." He stated.
"What does your question matter!?" I spat at him. He blinked again seeming not effected by my sudden attitude change.
"I would just like to know. You've killed every other vampire you've come to meet up with and yet you haven't killed me and you didn't kill my god father." He said shrugging. My eyes narrowed.
"It's just a little strange." He said.
"Strange!? Who the hell are you calling strange monster!?" I shouted.
"Hey, no need to call names." He said raising his hands up again.
"Shut up." I said angerily. He stared at me with a strange expression.
"No." He stated with the same expression.
"Yes!" I yelled.
"Make me!" He yelled back but with the same expression. Kill! My father's voice yelled. No! I shouted. Kill! He screamed. I suppressed a scream and my finger pulled the trigger. The loud bang echoed through the woods. Then it was silent. I opened one eye at a time. Demetri wasn't in front of me. I lowered the gun and was breathing heavily. What the hell came over me? I thought confused. What the hell was that!? Demetri appeared in front of me and surprised me causing me to pull the gun up and shoot again. Demetri disappeared and then reappeared in front of me. He grabbed the gun out of my hand and threw it to the side then he shoved me against a tree. I stared at him with wide eyes.
"Stop shooting at me!" He shouted. I tried to speak but couldn't for some reason.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" He asked.
"Get off of me." I said still trying to get my voice back.
"No. Not until you explain to me what that was." He protested.
"What are you talking about?" I shouted in his face.
"You were laughing and joking one moment and the next you're pissy, aggressive, oh and not to mention shooting at me!" He shouted back.
"Let go." I said through my teeth. He shoved me further into the tree and let go; walking away.
"Are you going to continue following me?" I questioned.
"No, I'm leaving." He said pacing.
"So leave." I snapped. He glared at me for a moment and then ran off.
That night I had horrible dreams and I know I was probably screaming in my sleep. It was of my family being killed but it was worse then what actually happened. I was standing there. Watching them being killed and I couldn't move. I could hear the screams that weren't there when they were killed. Multiple times I was hit with their blood and not able to wipe it off of me. Every time someone was killed I would scream in the dream. This is not how it happened! This isn't right! Is mostly what I would scream. There was nothing I could do. I couldn't save them. I was absolutely useless. When I woke up the next morning I was filled with fury. I couldn't wait to kill a vampire.
"That girl. She reeks of vampire blood." Calvin Roman said as he watched, hidden in the bushes and trees.
"It's not her but her rapier that smells of vampire blood." Ace Roman pointed out.
"Both her and her rapier reek of vampire blood." Calvin snapped. Ace glared at him for a moment then went back to watching Adelina.
"When do we kill her Ace? She sickens me." Calvin spat.
"We were only sent to bring her back. Not to kill her. Remember that Calvin." Ace answered.
"You know our family is going to be put in charge of killing her anyway so what's the point of bringing her back alive?" Calvin mumbled.
"So we won't get killed as well!" Ace snapped at Calvin and his ignorance. Calvin growled, leaned back against a log, folded his arms over his chest, and closed his eyes.
The sound of cicadas messed up my hearing. The hot sun was beating down through the tree tops and every time I walked out under a stream of the hot sunlight I would practically die. So many different sounds were from all over the place that I couldn't tell between what I should swing my rapier at or just let walk by. I jumped over a small brook and stabbed my silver rapier into the ground. Holding onto this out of it's sheath really gets irritating. I thought sitting down in front of it. I closed my eyes and rubbed my forehead. Suddenly the woods got quiet. A twig snapped and my eyes flashed open. I continued to rub my forehead acting like I didn't notice the sudden silence and the sound of a twig breaking. I focused my stare on my rapier. 2 silhouettes appeared in the reflection of the rapier. I sighed, dropped my hand, and closed my eyes again. The sounds got closer and closer easy to pick off since everything was quiet, even the annoying cicadas. When a sound got to close for my safety zone my eyes flashed open, I quickly grabbed a hold of the hilt of the rapier, got to a crouch, spun around, and swung my rapier. Blood hit my face forcing my eyes closed. I flashed them open and looked at who was stalking behind me. My eyes narrowed. It was a guy, more like a kid, that seemed to be in their middle teens. He had white hair and burgundy eyes. His mouth was wide open and he was gasping for air. There was another guy not to far away from where I was and where the guy in front of me was. I pulled my rapier out of the person and stood up. Blood dripped from the tip of the rapier. The guy that was a good distance back grimaced.
"Who are you?" I questioned.
"You kill a man and you don't even know who...what...he is?" The guy questioned glaring at me. My eyes widened. I dropped my silver rapier, quickly reached into my bag, pulled out a gun, pointed it at the guy and started shooting. He quickly dodged every bullet and charged after me. I pulled the trigger again but he dodged the last bullet. He appeared in front of me and wrapped his hand around my neck and jaw. A pain shot through my back and my head hit the bark of a tree.
"To think someone like you is wanted and feared in the vampire city." The guy chuckled. I tried to swallow but his hand was so tight around my neck there was no way I could. I slowly reached my hand up. His hand got tighter around my neck and I gasped.
"Don't even bother to try and rip my hand off your neck." He whispered in my ear. I smirked. I reached my hand up to the newly bought rapier and brought it down on his left shoulder. He let go of my neck and screamed in pain. I pulled the rapier off and out of his shoulder and shoved it into his chest. I put my right foot on the tree and kicked off shoving the vampire forward with the rapier still in his chest. He hit a tree and I jumped back not taking the rapier out of his chest. I pulled my silver rapier out of the ground and slid back. He pulled my new rapier out of his chest denting the blade.
"Aw, that was brand new." I whined standing up straight.
"Don't kid around with me!" He shouted angerily, baring his fangs and his eyes black as coals. He jumped at me and I jumped at him. I could feel my rapier pierce through him. His gasps and quiet little shrieks of pain hit my ear. I pulled my rapier out of him and let him fall. His shoulder hit mine as he fell to the ground. I looked down at the lifeless body. I took a closer look at him and saw a white envelope in his black trench coat. I bent down, picked it up, and opened it. My eyes quickly moved over the words. They're. Watching me? I thought looking down at the body again. I sheathed my rapier, picked up my new one and looked over the blade. God damn it. I thought sadly. I spun the rapier around in my fingers by the hilt and walked on.
As I walked out of the woods I came upon an old small village. I looked at the rapier again. It was covered in blood. How am I going to explain this to what ever weapon shiner is in this village? I thought pouting. Screams entered my ears. I looked up from my rapier and up at the village. An explosion set a home on fire and the fire quickly started to spread. I sucked my teeth and shoved my broken rapier in it's sheath. I pulled out my dad's rapier and ran towards the village.
I ran into the village and looked around. People were running from here to there and screaming.
"It's another!" Someone screamed pointing at me. I raised an eyebrow.
"Another what?" I questioned.
"Please don't hurt us." Someone begged me kneeling down on the ground in front of me.
"Who's attacking you?" I asked standing the person up.
"Bandits. They've taken all our money. They pass by every 2 years!" The person said practically shouting.
"Bandits huh?" I said putting my index finger on my chin.
"They're not vampires but I guess I can make an exception." I said shrugging.
"Vampires?" The person asked.
"Nothing to worry about. I'll take care of these morons. Just make sure all the villagers are out of my way." I said waving my hand and walking past them.
"S-sure." The person stuttered. I jumped up and landed on a roof top. I jumped from house to house until I found the group of bandits. There wasn't a lot of them. A pretty good sized group. They had a small group of woman tied up and there were horses packed tight with supplies and, no doubt, stolen goods. I crouched down and sighed. Bandits are a disgrace to humans. I thought tiredly. I jumped down and walked towards the drunk leader.
"Looks like we got another woman!" A bandit chuckled walking towards me. I glared at him but continued walking. I stopped in front of the leader and pointed my rapier at him.
"Get out of this village and never return. If you don't leave or you return you'll die. Be happy I'm sparing your life." I stated sternly. They all started to chuckle.
"And who are you?" The leader questioned.
"You really shouldn't be concerned on who I am. You should be concerned about your lives." I stated with a stern glare. The leader chuckled.
"Tie her up and put her with the others." He said raising his arm. The bandits started to surround me. I rolled my eyes. One got a little closer then the others. I spun around and kept my rapier out. Blood spattered everywhere and the bandits stopped chuckling. Instead they stared at me in horror. Their comrades body fell to the floor, headless.
"Don't just stand there! Get her!" The leader shouted standing up. They looked at their leader then at me, their eyes still wide with horror. One took a step back and made a run for it. Soon all the bandits followed suit. I smirked.
"Are you going to follow their good example or are you going to stay here and die?" I asked turning to face the leader. He glared at me.
"I will not go down without a fight!" He shouted angerily. I shrugged and swung my rapier around causing blood to fly everywhere. The leader pulled out a large, wide, thick sword.
"I really admire that sword you carry on your back. I will be taking it after I kill you." He said taking a couple steps forward.
"No use in taking it. It's broken. It got damaged in my last battle." I said copying his steps.
"Oh? And how did you manage to damage such a fine rapier?" He asked grinning.
"A vampire bent it while pulling it out of his chest." The bandit's eyes widened.
"Vampire?" He asked with wide eyes. I nodded.
"He was quite annoying. Hurt my neck and back." I said grimacing when recalling the pain. Then I sighed.
"But I took care of him." I said smiling evilly.
"You killed a vampire?" He questioned flabbergasted. I giggled.
"Don't sound so astonished." I said grinning. I charged forward and shoved my rapier in the middle of his chest.
"Who are you girl?" He questioned in a whisper.
"Adelina." I stated jumping back and pulling my rapier out of his chest. He chuckled.
"Adelina...Ciora by chance?" He asked laughing. My eyes narrowed.
"How did...?" I asked keeping the same expression. His chuckle got louder. Steam started to come from his chest and he stood straight up; still laughing. My eyes widened.
"I'm a"
"Vampire." I said under my breath finishing his sentence. He smirked and bolted forward so fast my eyes were barely able to follow. When he was right in front of me he raised his sword to stab me but something smashed into him. Both him and the object went flying into a burning building, causing it to crumble to the ground. The object was a person. They were struggling to hold the vampire bandit down. Their blond hair looked like it had a tint of orange because of the fire that burned around the two. I took a wild guess at who it was.
"Why the hell are you following me!?" I yelled.
"I save your life and that's what you say to me!?" Demetri shouted with strain in his voice.
"Stop following me! And I didn't need your stupid help! I don't need to be saved by a vampire!" I yelled back. He growled and jumped back off the vampire bandit.
"If you don't want my help then go ahead. You get rid of him." Demetri said landing next to me. I glared at him. Just then the vampire bandit appeared in front of me. He swung his sword and I was just barely able to block him. Demetri moved out of the way. The vampire bandit delivered quick blows. All of them I was just able to block. He's quicker than the other vampires I've fought. I thought struggling to block his attacks. His sword clanged with my rapier. He pushed forward and sent me flying.
"You know. I could take care of him for you. All you have to do is just say 'Demetri help me please'." Demetri said casually shrugging. I glared at him.
"I would never ask for help from a vampire." I spat struggling to hold the vampire bandit off. Demetri laughed a little and shrugged again. I threw the vampire bandit away but he quickly charged after me and gave out quick blows. He swung his sword and smashed my rapier out of my hand. I jumped back and quickly pulled out my silver rapier just in time to block his next blow. I flew back and smashed into a building that had just caught fire. I stood in the sweltering heat. The vampire bandit ran into the building and grinned at me.
"Where has your confidence gone girl? You're so weak I almost feel sad for you." The vampire chuckled. I took in a deep breath and started to choke on the smoke. I brought my arm up and covered my nose. This vampire is to strong. I thought weakly and starting to cough again. He laughed. He charged at me and started to swing and thrust at me. He aimed for my stomach but I put my rapier in front of my stomach; flat side facing him. His sword hit mine with sparks and a loud clang. A cracking noise sounded and my heart skipped a beat. No. Not this rapier. I thought with wide eyes. I moved to the side and pulled my sword out. The vampire bandit fell forward but gained his balance again. He charged at me and hit my rapier. I flew back and out of the burning house. I fell to the ground and slid back. Demetri was staring at me amused. The vampire bandit jumped out of the house; going through the ceiling and landed on me smashing his sword into my rapier. I cursed under my breath. I kicked him off of me and he flew back but not very far. I stumbled up and the vampire charged at me. His attacks were getting faster and harder to block.
"Okay! Demetri I need your help!" I shouted blocking another attack. Demetri chuckled.
"What's the magic word?" He asked grinning. I glared at him.
"Don't push it Demetri!" I shouted jumping back a little. He shrugged and remained where he stood.
"I'm not going to beg for your help!" I shouted at his silence.
"It's not begging. It's just one little word. 'Please'." He stated staring at me with an amused expression. I growled. The vampire bandit delivered a strong powerful attack shattering my silver rapier in two. My eyes widened. Everything went by so quickly but it felt like it was so slow. The bandit brought his sword down almost hitting me when Demetri appeared in front of me. He grabbed the bandit's sword, turned it around, and shoved it in the bandit's gut. The vampire bandit stared at him in shock. Then Demetri reached down and picked up a sharp piece of my silver rapier. He shoved it into the bandit's forehead and he quickly died. Demetri pulled the piece of my rapier out of the bandit's forehead and dropped it on the ground. The bandit vampire fell backwards and hit the ground with a loud thud. I dropped to my knees and stared at my silver rapier. It was my favorite rapier out of the two, well three now, that I had and now...It was destroyed. It was like I had a bond with the rapier.
"I might be able to fix it but it'll take a while. Right now I have to wait for my hand to heal." Demetri said sounding like he was in utter agony. Wait for his hand to heal? I thought slowly diverting my stare from my broken rapier to Demetri. His right hand was tightly clenched into a fist and blood was dripping from it. His hand slowly and stiffly opened up. He lifted it up and stared at it. My eyes followed his hand and then I finally got a good look at it. It looked like his hand was burned. Like it was put directly over an open flame and held there until he received third degree burns.
"Is that what happens when a vampire touch's or gets hit by silver?" I asked shocked. He nodded.
"It's very painful. No matter how small the wound is from the silver it causes searing pain and takes longer to heal than normal wounds." He explained. I shook my head snapping myself out of my guilt of what I did to all those vampires. Why is it that when ever he's around I start to feel like I'm a child again! Why do I feel the same feelings I had when I was a kid, about my family's duty and how what they did, what I do, is wrong and should be stopped? I thought confused.
"Here." Demetri said handing me my father's rapier. I stared at him for a moment and then took the rapier. I shoved it in it's sheath and stood up. I reached into my torn and burnt bag, that stayed at my side during the whole battle, and pulled out a large blanket. I got to my knees again, lay the blanket out on the ground, and started to put the pieces of my rapier onto the blanket.
"Don't bother picking them up. I can fix the rapier with out it." Demetri stated staring at me.
"I don't care if you can fix my rapier with out them! I want my rapier to be exactly the same! Pieces and all!" I spat angerily.
"Jeez, Adelina! It's just a rapier!" Demetri shouted. Footsteps could be heard in the distance. Demetri quickly looked up from me and at where the footsteps were coming from. I finished picking up the pieces of my rapier, folded the blanket into a tight bundle, stood up, and held the bundle in my arms against my chest. In front of us, walking towards us, was a large group of villagers.
"You two." An old man said in a scratchy voice. We both stayed quiet.
"You both saved our village from those bandits. Please is there anything we can do to repay you?" The old man asked.
"We didn't save your village. A lot of the homes are burned down or on fire." I stated softly.
"Yes but some are still standing and aren't touched by the fires. Which is enough. If you need a place to stay we would be happy to give you a roof to stay under for as long as you like." The old man offered. I shook my head and went to say something.
"We would love too." Demetri said interrupting me and slamming his arm around my shoulders.
"Don't touch me vampire." I spat with venom in my voice. He gave me a sort of frightened look and removed his arm from my shoulders.
"Please, stay in our elder's home. Surprisingly it remained untouched by the fires and wasn't robbed by the bandits." The old man said.
"Your elder's? Jeez who can get older then you?" Demetri commented. I slammed my elbow into his side and he fell to his knees acting like he was out of breath.
"Sorry for the ass whole's rudeness. Oh and sorry for my language." I said smiling. The old man chuckled.
"It's alright. My grandson will guide you to the elder's home. Make yourself comfortable. I'll send extra pairs of clothes and clothes so, if you'd like, you could take a bath." The old man said smiling. I raised both my eyebrows and looked at myself. I was covered in grim and my clothes looked horrible.
"He's right you need a bath Adelina. You smell." Demetri said standing up and waving his hand in front of his face. I glared at him and curled my hand into a fist. He laughed nervously.
"Just because I let you help me, vampire, doesn't mean we're friends." I spat turning to face him.
"I have a name you know!" He shouted at me.
"Do I care!?" I yelled.
"This way." A young man said interrupting our argument by walking in between us. I huffed and followed the young man. Demetri followed close behind quietly walking. Every 4 minutes I'd forget he was there but him walking a head of me a couple times reminded me he was there.
When we arrived at the house a couple of people walked in shortly after giving Demetri and I a change of clothes, towels, and wash cloths so we could bathe.
"Would you like a tour of the house?" The young man asked. I shook my head.
"Can you just show me where the bathroom is?" I asked politely picking up a towel, was cloth, and clothes. He nodded. I heard Demetri chuckle.
"Don't peek ass whole!" I said spinning around and pointing a finger at him. He threw his hands up and gave me an innocent look.
"I promise I won't." He said shaking his head and grinning. I glared at him, spun around, and continued to follow the young man.
He brought me to a room that had a large bath, a sink, and a toilet.
"Thank you." I said smiling at him.
"Is that all you need?" He asked smiling. I nodded.
"Goodbye then." He said bowing a little then walked off. I waited until I couldn't hear his footsteps before I started the hot bath.
I walked into the main room of the house shaking my head.
"What are you a dog?" Demetri commented from the floor where he lay lounging lazily. I glared at him.
"Shut up." I spat.
"No need to be so mean." He said chuckling.
"Why would I be nice to a monster?" I snapped sitting down on the ground.
"Cause this monster saved your life!" He shouted hitting his chest with his thumb. My glare got deeper.
"I just might use that against you!" He said smirking.
"Use is against me?" I questioned. He chuckled.
"How...?" I asked angerily. He shrugged.
"Who knows? A monster like me must have something evil planned. Something so vile that you'd try and run right when you hear it"
"Like what!?" I shouted. He started to laugh and then he shrugged. A growl came from my throat.
"When I was on my way to the bathroom I saw another room with a bed. Go stay in there. I get this room!" I shouted pointing to the hall.
"Excuse me? I'm quite comfortable here thank you." He stated stretching.
"Well, if you want to sleep here then that could be what I owe you." I said waving off the topic.
"What!? That's a waste! No way!" He shouted standing up. I grinned.
"Then go sleep in the other room!" I shouted back. He grumbled and walked away. Before he left the main room and put his foot on my arm and pushed me causing me to fall over. I tried to punch and kick him but he got away incredibly fast.
I walked through the small village. Everyone was helping rebuild the burnt down houses. The kids were running around laughing and the kids that looked old enough to know how to use a hammer were helping out the adults. I was in new clothes that were soft against my skin and I have to say, for the first time in a while I didn't smell like a cow's butt. My, now, only rapier was at my side. My father's rapier. Demetri was at some black smith's workshop working on my other two rapiers. About 20 minutes ago I went to check up on my silver rapier which Demetri was working on first. It wasn't nearly done and Demetri's hands were already burnt. I've been staying here in the village for about 4 days now. Demetri followed me around the past 4 days and I was happy that that vampire wasn't breathing down my neck. A couple kids ran up to me and stared at me for a moment. I stopped in my tracks and gave them a curious expression.
"You saved our village?" One kid asked emphasizing the 'you' like he couldn't believe it. My eyes narrowed. I went to talk but I was interrupted.
"No, I save your village! She just weakened the bad guy for me." Demetri said putting a bandaged hand on my shoulder.
"Really!?" A kid asked in amazement at Demetri.
"Yup! She wouldn't be able to do anything without me." Demetri said grinning down at the kids.
"Take your hand off of my shoulder." I grumbled clenching my fists.
"Hm? Ah, watch out kids! She's mad. She's pretty evil." Demetri mocked. I glared up at him with daggers in my eyes. He blinked a couple times and smiled at me. Butterflies. No No No! I thought shaking my head.
"I'm going." I said shoving his hand off my shoulder and walking away. I heard him suck his teeth from the pain that must have went through his hand. I kept my fists clenched not willing myself to look back.
"I'm just kidding you know. If it wasn't for her your village wouldn't be here at the moment. The guy that was attacking was just a little to strong for her though. I had to finish him off." I heard Demetri whisper to the kids.
"So you were like her sidekick?" A kid asked.
"No no! That's a horrible way to put it! More like an assistant." Demetri quickly defended.
"Haha! You're her sidekick!" The kids started to laugh. I took a quick glance back and saw Demetri rubbing his head and looking down at the laughing kids.
"Fine! I'm her sidekick!" He shouted showing a smile.
"Ha! Ha! Sidekick! Sidekick!" The kids laughed running around him.
"Hey hey! Not so loud." He said chasing after them. I cracked a small smile and turned my stare back in front of me. Oh man... I thought mentally slapping myself over and over again.
3 weeks later
I swung my silver rapier around smiling brightly.
"It feels great to have this at my side again!" I said to myself happily.
"So I did a good job?" Demetri's voice said breaking my concentration. I dropped the rapier from being startled.
"Watch it! Don't break it again!" He shouted showing fake anger. I turned a little and glared at him. I picked up the rapier and shoved it in my sheath.
"You did a good job." I mumbled as I walked past him.
"That's not the thank you I should get!" He shouted following me.
"It wasn't a thank you." I snapped looking back at him.
"Well, at least you could do is thank me!" He yelled.
"Thank you monster!"I yelled back. Not. I thought bitterly.
"The right way!" He shouted. I stopped and turned around.
"The right way!? The right way!? Tell me what is the right way!" I shouted in his face. He grinned.
"I was thinking on the lines of 'Oh Demetri! Thank you so much! I love you for fixing my rapier! Please take me!' or something like that." He said trying his best to mimic my voice when he said the line he wanted me to say. I clenched my fist and took in a sharp breath. I could feel my eyebrow twitch.
"Demetri. I suggest you get out of my face right now." I said through clenched teeth.
"Or?" He asked chuckling.
"Or you won't have kids!" I screamed in his face. He looked at me with wide eyes and took a couple steps back. I turned around and stomped off.
"Are you sure you have to leave?" The old man asked me. I nodded.
"Apparently those bandits aren't coming back. There's no need for me to stay here and I need to continue with my travels." I stated fixing my bag which was much heavier because of the supplies and new clothes I had gotten from the villagers.
"Alright than. Come back if you need anything. We'd be happy to help the people who saved our village." The old man said smiling. I smiled back at him and bowed my thanks. I turned and walked away from the village. After that I don't think I'll be able to live out in the woods again. I thought to myself folding my arms over my chest.
I stumbled over a trunk and fell to my knees. I bit down on my tongue to prevent me from screaming. The pain that shot through my knees was almost unbearable. I've been walking for weeks and not a river or sign of edible plants in sight. By this time I was incredibly dizzy and ready to pass out at any moment. I ran out of supplies probably 2 weeks ago and all my clothes were already torn. Since I left that small village I had killed many many vampires. Causing my to get weaker with each kill. If I get attacked one more time I don't think I'll be able to live through it. I thought as I moved over to a tree and sat with my back against it. I looked down at my bent knee and grimaced at the sight. It was sliced open and bleeding pretty bad. With my luck it was sunset. Vampires are going to be swarming around the area I'm in, just hoping for a drink. I thought leaning my head back. I looked down at my bag, reached in, pulled out a badly torn shirt, pulled a large piece of cloth off, and wrapped it around my sliced up knee. I grimaced and flinched from the pain. I finished tying it, stood up and continued walking.
About 5 miles away from where I fell sudden movement caught my ears and eyes. I stopped walking, limping is more like it, and pulled out my silver rapier. My eyes moved around frantically trying to find out where the attack will come from. A hand grabbed my rapier from my hand and before I could blink it was already in my sheath. Then strong arms lifted me up.
"Get off of me!" I yelled.
"Shut up! The scent of your blood has led them to you! By now it has almost filled the entire forest but they're in the area. If you yell you'll lead them to us!" Demetri shouted as he took off running.
"Why the hell are you following me!?" I yelled furious.
"What did I tell you!? Keep your voice down!" Demetri shouted in a hushed tone. I growled at him.
"Why are you bleeding?" He suddenly questioned.
"I don't think it's any of your business, stalker vampire." I spat. A growl came from his throat. More fierce than any vampire I have ever fought.
"Why are you bleeding?" He questioned again but in a hiss.
"I hurt my knee." I stated reluctantly.
"How?" He asked still in a hiss.
"I fell!" I snapped. His hard angry expression turned into a grin and I could tell he was trying not to laugh.
"Who are they?" I asked calmly.
"What?" Demetri asked quickly looking down at me and then back up.
"You said the scent of my blood lead 'them' to me. Who is them?" He sighed irritated.
"The Roman clan. You could say they're like the way you're family was. They hunt down the vampire city's greatest threat when their other hunters can't. Right now, you're their greatest threat. After you killed their two best hunters they lost track of you because they didn't receive the letter they were waiting for." Demetri started to explain. That must have been the letter I found in that guys pocket. I thought.
"They automatically assumed they were killed so they all went out to search for you. They had no idea where you were until they caught the scent of your blood. They followed that until the scent got stronger but it had quickly spread to various parts of the woods so they got confused but they're close. Not close enough to hear low talking but close enough to hear yelling." He finished.
"Put me down." I ordered sternly.
"What? Are you insane? They'll kill you!" Demetri shouted in a hushed tone objecting to my order.
"We're not going to escape them by running." I stated pointing out the obvious.
"Yeah we can. If we get far away enough as quick as possible we can put some distance between us. Than I'll wash off your wound and we run again. That way the scent of your blood stops at what ever stream, river, or brook we find." He stated.
"We start running again? It's just me Demetri. I; me. Not we; us." I snapped.
"Forget it. If you have the Roman clan on your tail I'm sticking with you." Demetri snapped back.
"Excuse me!? What do you care about who I have trailing on my ass or not!? I'm not your responsibility and you sure as hell aren't mine! Why would you fucking say you're sticking with me!? Why would you care!?" I snapped shouting.
"Shut up you idiot! Do you want to die at a young age!?" He snapped back.
"Answer my questions." I snapped quietly.
"I told you when we first met. You interest me." He stated and I could tell that's all he would say. I huffed, crossed my arms over my chest, and watched the trees passing by.
My knee started to sting. Like someone had decided to shove their finger in it and started to move their finger around. I think that's what woke me up. When did I fall asleep? I thought. Demetri was still running and he looked fairly tired. Another pain shot through my knee and I flinched. I quickly grabbed onto it which was a bad idea. I flinched from the pain and pulled my hand away.
"Your knee is probably getting infected." Demetri stated not even looking down at me.
"How long have we been running?" I quickly questioned noticing the sun was up in the sky.
"A while. They're pretty fast and every time I slowed down just a little they would quickly catch up. Doesn't matter they have to rest sometime." Demetri stated jumping up from the ground and onto a tree branch. He jumped from there to another tree branch and continued that way. I flinched yet again but this time I covered my mouth to try and hide a small shriek.
"I need to check out your knee. There's a small river ahead a couple miles. It'll take at least 30 minutes to get to it." He said sounding a little concerned.
"I can tend to my wound on my own." I grumbled.
"You're really not a people person are you?" He asked smiling a little.
"Oh no I'm a people person. I'm just not a vampire person." I grumbled.
"They're falling behind." Demetri muttered.
"Can you put me down then?" I snapped.
"I said they were falling behind not stopping." He retorted. I groaned and shifted a little.
Demetri put me down at the edge of a river.
"Give me your bag and rapiers." He ordered.
"Why?" I asked raising one eyebrow.
"I'm going to throw them to the other side of the river." He stated motioning his head to the river.
"Are you kidding me!? What am I going to fight with if those vampires catch up!?" I shouted.
"What is up with you and shouting all the time? God." Demetri snapped. I glared at him and waited for my answer. He sighed.
"After I throw our stuff over to the other side of the river we'll go to the other side. It's just we're going to go through the river." He said taking the bag the villagers had given him.
"Through the river?" I asked as my eyebrows furrowed.
"Yes. We're going to jump into the river and swim across." Demetri said strongly throwing his bag across the river. It landed a couple inches away from the edge of the river. My eyes widened and I shook my head.
"No. Sorry. I can't do that." I said objecting.
"Why not?" He asked grabbing my bag and pulling it over my head. He then threw it across the river. I looked away and fought to keep myself from blushing.
"I can't swim." I mumbled. He stopped what he was doing and just stared at me. A couple minutes later he started to laugh.
"Are you serious!? The great Adelina Ciora doesn't know how to swim!?" He laughed holding his stomach. I looked at him and glared at him.
"Shut up." I snapped. He closed his eyes, stopped laughing, pressed his lips together in a hard line to prevent himself from laughing, and put his hands out in front of him; palms facing me.
"Don't worry, I'll carry you through the river." He said grinning and pulling my new rapier off my back. I pondered about it for a moment.
"Hurry up. They're getting closer. I still have to treat your wound." He urged. I sighed and unbuckled the belt I held to hold my other two rapiers. He took them from my hands and threw them across the river. He put his arm under my knees and his other arm around my back. He stood up; lifting me with him.
"Might want to wrap your arms around my neck to help me hold onto you." He said smiling down at me. I rolled my eyes and put my arm around his neck. His smile widened.
"Hold your breath." He said still smiling. He ran to the edge and jumped in. I quickly took in a deep breath and held it before we hit the water. We stayed submerged in the water for what seemed like 15 minutes. I lost my breath right before Demetri jumped out of the water and landed in front of all our stuff. I gasped for air and started to choke.
"See, I didn't let go." He said laughing a little as he put me down. I glared at him as I coughed. He reached behind him and picked up his bag. He opened it up and quickly pulled out some medical supplies. He unwrapped the cloth that was on my knee and looked over the giant slash that was on it. He pulled a cloth out of his bag, went to the edge of the river, dunked it in, came back and put it on my knee. I winced and closed my eyes tightly. He moved the wet cloth around on my slashed knee for a couple minutes and then pulled it off. I opened one of my eyes and kept the other one tightly closed. He pulled something from the medical supplies and put it on my knee. A bad stinging sensation entered my knee but soon dissipated.
"I don't have enough time to treat it fully." He said wrapping a cloth around my knee to keep the patch on it. He tied it tightly and put everything back in his bag. He pulled his bag over his head and did the same with mine. He handed me all three of my rapiers and I buckled them on. He picked me up again and started to run.
"How are they still chasing us!?" Demetri yelled.
"Well, they put one foot in front of the other really quickly and"
"They should have been exhausted by now! It's been 2 days!" Demetri snapped. I sighed.
"Just stop running. I can fight them off." I stated. He shook his head.
"You can't fight them off. Not with an injured knee." He objected.
"Ha! I've fought vampires off with a broken ankle!" I stated with pride.
"Adelina, you've fought regular vampires off. These vampires are much stronger, quicker, and smarter. You'll be dead in a second if you even make one false move or stumble." He retorted.
"Why are you so difficult!?" I questioned.
"Cause that's who I am and how I was raised." He said smiling.
"Wow, raised to be difficult? That must of helped your mom a whole bunch!" I said sarcastically. His smile slowly faded into a frown.
"My mom died when I was born." He said sadly. My eyes widened and I gasped.
"I-I..." I didn't know what to say.
"I didn't know. I-I'm..." I said looking down from his face. I pressed my lips together and tried to find the right words to say.
"It's okay. You're right you didn't know. Don't worry about it." He said putting on a smile. I'm such an idiot. I thought mentally shaking my head.
"Damn it." Demetri muttered snapping me from my thoughts.
"What"
"We've got company." He stated as he stopped running. As soon as he put me down we were surrounded. My knee was still sore and it hurt badly when I went to go put pressure on my leg but I bared through it. One of the vampires' eyes narrowed as he stared at Demetri. I looked at Demetri than at the vampire.
"You." The vampire stated glaring at Demetri. Demetri clenched his fists.
"What the hell are you doing here? Aiding the vampire city's greatest threat!" The vampire shouted. Demetri didn't say anything. The vampire started to laugh.
"Adelina the great vampire killer accepting help from a vampire? Looks like you don't live up to the rumors, Adelina." The vampire said still laughing. I glared at him.
"I did not willingly accept help from a vampire. He just won't leave me alone!" I snapped at the vampire.
"So why not kill him? Go on! Live up to the rumor!" The vampire snapped back. I went to say something but stopped. That one question has been nagging at me. Why haven't I killed him yet!? I yelled in my head.
"Ha! This will be interesting news to share with the vampire council during your sentencing." The vampire laughed.
"My sentencing!?" I snapped.
"Yes. You are wanted in the vampire city. The vampire king wants you captured and taken the city to receive punishment." The vampire answered.
"I don't think you have the authority to punish me. After all I'm a human. If anyone is to punish me it's the king of the human world. And I doubt he would punish me for killing vampires. After all he did hire my family to kill you." I hissed.
"Yes that is exactly why your family was sentenced to be killed. You and your family were a threat and menaces to the vampire city. The group that went to your house to kill your family made the mistake of not killing you. And the vampire city does have the authority to punish you just like the human cities and villages have the authority to punish vampires. Same rules apply for our city. When a vampire kills a human and is caught they are punished by the leader of what ever city or village it killed the human in. So when a human kills a vampire and is caught they are punished by our council. Since your king felt that vampires were a threat to the humans they hired your family to get rid of them. Everything works the same in our city, Adelina." The vampire explained.
"I wasn't in your city when I killed those vampires." I snapped.
"Wrong! You were in our territory when you killed those vampires. Which means you were in our city. You know damn well the vampires control these forests." The vampire snapped back. I growled.
"I won't go down without a fight." I spat grabbing my silver rapier out of it's sheath. The vampire chuckled.
"We know that but you're injured and you're no match for us. We will defeat you." The vampire said.
"You'll have to fight me as well." Demetri said speaking up.
"Shut up Demetri you're not apart of this! I don't need your help!" I said quickly looking up at Demetri and then back at the vampire that was talking to me.
"I have some business with this vampire." He said through gritted teeth. My eyes shifted to the side and I looked up at Demetri.
"When a vampire assists a human that is wanted in the vampire city they automatically get the death sentence." Demetri said.
"They came to the village I was staying at with my god father. Somehow they found out we 'helped' you and they killed my god father. I was able to get away just barely unharmed. That's why I left the village. This vampire. Is the one that killed my godfather and I will avenge him." Demetri snapped baring his fangs. I looked at the vampire that Demetri was glaring at.
"Fine. I'll get rid of the others." I muttered looking around at the group that was surrounding us.
"That's fine with me." Demetri muttered back. Great, I'm fighting side by side with a vampire. That's just excellent. I thought sarcastically.
"There's no use in bringing you back to the vampire city, Demetri. We'll kill you right here and tell the council you and your godfather are dead." The vampire said. Demetri laughed and smirked.
"I don't think you can kill me." He stated boldly.
"We'll just have to see." The vampire said cracking his knuckles.
"We will." Demetri agreed.
2 hours later
I swung at one of the last few standing vampires. He quickly dodged my attack and punched me in the stomach. I coughed and gasped for air. I dropped my rapier, grabbed his arm, and flipped him over my shoulder. I quickly picked my rapier up and stabbed him in the forehead. I pulled it out of his head and swung around just in time to deflect another vampires attack. Demetri was still fighting against that one vampire. They didn't even look exhausted.
I blocked a couple of other attacks before striking the vampire in the chest. I pulled my rapier to the side and sliced through his chest. Now there were only 3 left for me to kill. I spun my rapier in my hand and watched the three vampires. They all smirked. I could tell they were planning on attacking me at once. They separated and charged forward. One to my left, one to my right, and the other in front of me. I watched their movements closely. The one in front of me got a little to close. The hand that was holding my rapier shot out in front of me and I struck the vampire in the throat. He choked and gasped for air. I pulled my rapier out and spun it over my head as the vampire fell to the ground. I held the rapier at my side and watched the other vampires.
"You vicious bitch!" One of them shouted. I turned my head to face the one that shouted it. A smirk appeared on my face and I laughed evilly. I charged at the vampire and swung my sword. I sliced right through the vampire's neck. His body fell to the ground and his head a couple feet away. I turned to face the now frozen vampire.
"Scared?" I giggled. The vampire stared at me with wide eyes. I took a couple steps back. Limping a little because of my knee.
"Aren't cha going to attack? You're not going to live if you just stand there." I said in an evil voice. He opened his mouth to speak but obviously was to scared too. I laughed some more.
"You're going to have a reunion with your little friends." I snapped charging forward and shoving my rapier right under his chest. I turned my sword to the side and pulled it out. The body fell back with it's eyes still wide open. I breathed heavily and looked up to see how Demetri's battle was progressing. It was the same as an hour ago. Nether of them were close to winning. Demetri stole a quick glance at me and my bloodstained self. My left knee, the knee that had the gash on it, was purple. My left foot was standing on its toes to keep the pressure off my knee. My hair was a mess and sticking to my face from sweating. My clothes were torn even more and covered in blood along with my face, arms, and legs. He turned his focus back at his fight. I could tell he was getting annoyed that his fight had lasted this long. He slid back as the vampire he was fighting deflected his attack.
"Give it up Demetri! You're never going to win!" The vampire yelled in clear irritation. Demetri's eyes narrowed as he stared at the vampire.
"You're hiding how weak you've gotten. You haven't rested from running for 2 days nor have you hunted." Demetri pointed out. The vampire chuckled.
"Yes but vampires get stronger when they haven't hunted. It sort of activates a defensive mechanism in our bodies. You know that Demetri. Soon I'll be stronger then you can handle. And I just might break the orders I was given about Adelina." The vampire stated.
"Break the orders?" Demetri questioned.
"We were ordered to bring her back alive to be sentenced by the vampire council." The vampire said closing his eyes.
"But, I'm thirsty and it's really starting to irritate me. We, the roman family, will probably be the ones ordered to kill her or torture her to death. One of the hunters she killed had pointed that out before I sent the two to follow her and bring her back to our group. I guess he's right. And since I'm so thirsty and there is a human at my disposal." The vampire said leaving off there. Demetri knew what he was leading on and so did I. The vampire opened his eyes and they were coal black and shiny. My heart skipped a beat. The vampire heard my heart and started to laugh. He looked over at me.
"Scared, Adelina? Don't be. I'll drink your blood as quick as I can. Though it will heart a lot." The vampire said grinning at me. My eyes widened. Demetri's eyes shifted from the vampire to me and then to the vampire. Demetri took advantage of this. He charged forward and tackled the vampire.
"Close your eyes Adelina!" Demetri ordered as he struggled to hold the vampire to the ground.
"No." I stated in a raspy voice.
"Do it!" Demetri yelled. I gulped and closed my eyes. A scream of agony hit my ears. I was going to open my eyes but decided against it. Why was I so scared? What's going on with me!? Why can't I kill Demetri!? Why was I so scared when that vampire said he was going to drink my blood!? What's going on!? I thought frantically hoping just hoping my questions would be answered the more I thought about them.
A cold hand was placed on my shoulder. I grabbed the hand's wrist but another hand grabbed my wrist.
"You can open your eyes." Demetri said calmly. My eyes shot open and I moved my head to look behind him. His hand shot up and covered my eyes.
"Don't." He stated.
"I think I can handle seeing what you did to him. I've killed many vampires and seen a lot of blood." I said ripping his hand off my eyes aggressively.
"Just. Don't look." He stated with a hint of sadness and concern in his voice. I glared at him and sighed in defeat.
"Fine." I grumbled and pulled his hand off my shoulder.
"How's your knee?" He quickly asked.
"It's perfectly fine." I snapped shoving my rapier in it's sheath.
"I didn't do a very good job treating the wound. I need to change the bandage." He stated picking up his bag.
"No. It's fine." I said turning around.
"It doesn't hurt?" He questioned.
"No!" I snapped. Lie. I thought. As soon as I took a couple steps a pain shot through my knee. I winced, gasped, and almost fell to the ground. Demetri grabbed my one arm and his other hand touched my waist. He put my arm around his shoulder and helped me walk over a tree where he helped me sit down with my back against it.
"Doesn't hurt huh?" He asked grinning.
"Shut up." I spat. He chuckled and started to unwrap my knee. I stared down at him for a minute before quickly looking up at the vampire Demetri was fighting. What I saw sent a sudden jolt of fear through my body. He was torn open and blood was everywhere a long with a couple other things I knew vampires didn't need to live like us humans did. His throat was ripped open to. I closed my eyes tightly, pressed my lips together in a hard line, turned my head, and opened my eyes again. I stared down at my lap.
"I told you not to look." Demetri said breaking our silence. I sighed and watched him as he treated the wound on my knee. After about 15 minutes of pain Demetri was finally done bandaging it. I used my hands to push off from the ground along with my right knee. I hopped for a moment and used the tree to keep my balance.
"You should give your knee a rest." Demetri stated standing up as well.
"I'm fine." I said picking up my bag and pulling it over my head.
"When are you going to stop being stubborn and accept my help?" He questioned with a sigh.
"When you stop being stubborn and stop stalking me." I retorted limping away from him. He chuckled and slowly followed along.
3 months later
For the past couple of months Demetri stuck to what he said and kept to my side. The only time he left my side was to go and get blood but that was only when I was 'sleeping'. Whenever we stopped and made camp I would lay on the ground with my eyes closed acting like I was asleep. I stayed up all hours of the night asking the same questions over and over again. Why couldn't I kill Demetri? How come I wouldn't do it? Why was I suddenly scared the moment that vampire said he was going to suck my blood? What was happening to me? Why was I now willingly traveling with a vampire? Since I stayed up all night thinking I was tired when we had to start traveling again. A couple of times I passed out while walking or even fell asleep whenever we stopped by a river to get a drink. The Roman family was still after me and still trying to kill Demetri for assisting me. Eventually I asked Demetri how big the family was and he said we still haven't met the leader of the family who was much much stronger than all the vampires in the vampire city and almost as strong as the vampire king. I was still angry that Demetri was following me and wouldn't leave me alone but I gave up arguing with him to leave after the first month. One of us had to. It was getting annoying.
I sighed as I lay there with my eyes closed. Still thinking over questions. I hadn't had a decent night sleep for a while now. A cold breeze blew over me and I shivered. Winter was coming soon and we still haven't found a village yet. Something warm and soft went over me.
"Go to sleep Adelina. I don't want you passing out again." Demetri said softly. Busted...I thought. I sat up and rubbed my eyes.
"I can't." I stated crossing my legs and throwing the thin but warm cover over my shoulders and held it around me. The smell of the river not to far from us bounced off the rocks that were around us and hit my nose.
"Why not?" He asked curiously sitting down near the fire he had started right before I went to go to sleep.
"I'm thinking a little to much." I said snuggling into the cover and closing my eyes. A different but excellent scent replaced the smell of the river in my nose.
"Hm. Is it hurting your head?" He asked sarcastically. My eyes flashed open and I glared at him. He chuckled.
"What exactly are you thinking about?" He asked with a sigh. I shrugged.
"It's nothing." I said shaking my head and closing my eyes again.
"If it was nothing than you wouldn't be loosing so much sleep over it. If it was nothing you would be fast asleep." He stated raising his eyebrows.
"It's just a lot of questions that I'm trying to find the answers too"
"Need any help"
"No. They're simple questions. I just don't know why I can't answer them. That's just another question to add to the pile." I said with a sigh and opening my eyes.
"Come on. I bet I can help you find the answers to your questions." He urged. I pouted and sighed.
"Fine. My first question is How come I didn't kill you when I first met you? Why can't I do it?" I asked the last question to myself.
"That's two not one." He stated pointing out the obvious. I glared at him.
"Well. Hm." He said pondering over the questions.
"Maybe. Hm. Wow those are tough questions." He said looking down at the ground with a hard stare.
"Maybe you like me." He said looking up at me and grinning. I hid my face a little more in the cover.
"Don't be stupid." I muttered.
"Just admit it! There's something about me that attracts you so much that you can't kill me!" He said his grin getting wider.
"Try again!" I snapped. He chuckled.
"You're blushing." He said in a singing tone.
"No I'm not!" I shouted uncovering my face. He started to laugh more.
"Fine if you think you're so smart answer my next questions! Why was I scared when that vampire was talking about sucking my blood? What is happening to me? How come I'm willingly traveling with you? I'm supposed to be a vampire killer! You should be dead right now! Why can't I kill you!?" I shouted looking down at the ground and back up at him frantically. He stared at me with a weird expression.
"You're willingly traveling with me? I just thought you gave up arguing with me and the whole time you stayed awake at night was to plan your escape." He said smirking and chuckling.
"Just answer my questions!" I snapped.
"Fine fine. Calm down." He said sighing.
"It's only natural for a human to get scared in the type of situation you were in." Demetri stated.
"I know that! But I'm not just any human! I kill vampires for a living! What is going on with me!?" I yelled.
"I can't answer your question because I don't know how you were before I met you which is when you probably grew soft, I'm guessing. Nor can I answer your second to the last question because I'm not in your head and I don't know how you feel about traveling with me. And like I said before. Maybe something about me just erases your impulse to kill me. Or maybe some of the decent person you were when you were little is still hidden in there and It comes out whenever you think about killing me." He said shrugging.
"That only brings on more questions! If I do have a little bit of who I was when I was a little kid still in me; why does it prevent me from killing you and only you?" I said suddenly confused.
"And for my godfather. You didn't kill him." Demetri pointed out. I glared at him.
"You just don't understand. You never will." I said with a sigh and went back to laying down.
"You know I have the same question in my head all the time." He stated bluntly.
"What?" I asked sitting up.
"The question you asked twice. Why haven't you killed me?" He said shrugging. I groaned and fell back. As I looked up at the sky I noticed the sky turning orange because of the sun rising.
"We should get going." Demetri said standing up looking in the direction of the rising sun.
"Why do you insist on traveling with me?" I asked standing up too.
"I told you already. You interest me." He said putting the fire out.
"You vampires are confusing." I grumbled annoyed.
"God! Do you know how annoying that is!?" Demetri snapped quickly turning around to face me. My eyebrows furrowed as I stared at him.
"All I hear from you is 'You vampires' or 'You monsters' or just Monster! Even though my heart doesn't beat I'm still a person! How would you like it if I went around saying 'You humans' or 'You barbarians'!?" He shouted.
"That's all I see your kind as. Just vampires or monsters." I stated blankly.
"Why!? Why do you pin what my father and the rest of my family did or does to you on me and the other vampires that are good!?" He yelled. I was going to retort to that when I started to think about what he said.
"And the rest of your family did or does to me?" I asked repeating the part of his question that stuck out the most. His eyes widened when he realized what he just said.
"I...A..." He said trying to figure out what to say.
"And the rest of your family did or does to me!?" I repeated this time shouting.
"Adelina..." He said calmly.
"Who are you Demetri!?" I yelled.
"Adelina...I..." He stutted taking a step forward.
"Answer me!" I screamed. He sighed, closed his eyes tightly, and clenched his fists.
"My name is Demetri...Roman." He said opening his eyes to look at me. The glare I stared at him with got deeper and harder.
"What!?" I hissed.
"I didn't want to tell you. I mean. I was going to tell you but after what happened with my uncle." He said looking down at the ground.
"Your uncle!?" I questioned. He nodded and looked up at me.
"The vampire I wanted to kill 3 months ago. The one that killed my god father." He stated. I shook my head in disbelief.
"You. You...Lied to me!?" I shouted.
"I didn't lie to you. I didn't exactly tell you who I was fully. I just said my first name." He said taking a step forward.
"You said you didn't kill humans! You lied to me!" I screamed.
"Adelina I can explain that." He said raising his hands, his palms facing me, in an attempt to calm me down.
"I hate you." I spat. He stopped walking.
"Leave! Get the hell out of here! Don't you get it!? I hate you and your kind! Get out of here!" I yelled. He dropped his hands and kept them at his side.
"If you won't leave than I will." I stated turning around to walk away.
"Adelina wait!" He shouted.
"No! I'm leaving! Don't follow me!" I shouted back. Before I took another step away my back hit something cold and hard sending a pain down my spin. I looked into Demetri's face. His left hand was next to the right side of my face and his right hand was next to the left side of my face.
"Move." I snapped.
"My last name doesn't show who I am. I do. I hate my father and my family because they kill humans. When my father suggested I go live with my godfather I happily accepted because I knew he didn't kill humans either." He started to explain.
"After you saved my father he had told my family and I about you. Humans have always interested me and when I heard the story about you I got even more interested in humans. That's when I decided never to kill humans in my life no matter what." He finished. I still glared at him. He sighed a painfilled sigh.
"I guess the absolute truth is..." He said looking down.
"I've been in love with you before I even met you." He said looking into my eyes. That caught me off guard. My glare disappeared and turned into a surprised expression. What!? I thought confused.
"After I heard that my family was out to kill you I went to find you. That's why I kept by your side. I didn't want anything to hurt you." He said with a sigh. I was still dazed.
"But...If you truly don't want me here or feel the same way about me that I do for you and you don't need me here. Than. As much as it pains me, I'll leave you alone." He said sadly still looking in my eyes. What...? Was all I could think. He leaned down and his soft lips touched mine for a split second before he pulled away and walked away. I blinked and his bag was slung on his shoulder, his hands in his pockets, and his head down. Wait. I thought wanting to scream it but couldn't. I blinked again and...he was gone. I fell to my knees and stared in the direction he had left in. Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! I thought yelling at myself. I looked down at the ground in front of me and continued to stare off into space.
I walked into a clearing. The sun shined through the breaking in the trees magnificently. The cold early winter breeze blew through my hair. I always loved the winter. Everything just seemed to be at peace, when I wasn't killing vampires of course. I would usually smile at this type of setting but so many confusing thoughts were surging through my mind right now that they kept my face blank. I was in the middle of the clearing when a sudden burst of fear struck me. I froze in my tracks and searched the clearing for whatever it was that caused this burst of fear. I pulled out the two rapiers that were buckled to my waist. My silver rapier and my father's rapier. I held them out in front of me and continued to search in front of me and to the sides. Before I knew it the rapiers were ripped out of my hands and stabbed into two trees. I went to reach for my rapier on my back but it was already gone. More fear hit me. I looked up and saw a tall slim man standing at one end of the clearing in front of me;holding my rapier. The man didn't look that intimidating but something about him sent chills of fear down my spine. I tried to think of what to do.
"Who are you?" I questioned.
"My name is Anton Roman. I am the leader of the Roman family." The tall man stated. My eyes widened. 'We still haven't met up with the leader of the Roman family. He's almost as strong as the vampire king himself. We should be happy. If we are to encounter him we're dead before we can even blink...' I then remembered my guns. I quickly reached into my bag and once I grabbed a hold of a fully loaded gun and pulled it out of my bag, it was off of my shoulders and behind Anton Roman. I pointed the gun at him and my finger hovered over the trigger. He chuckled. Sudden footsteps came up behind me. More fear struck me. I spun around and pulled the trigger with my eyes tightly closed. The bang startled me because I haven't used one of the guns in a while. I slowly opened my eyes. I gasped and my eyes filled with tears of horror as I stared at the person I shot. D-Demetri!? He fell to his knees and held his stomach. He was gasping in pain and I could hear his quiet screams that he tried to hide. He fell to the side and rolled onto his back; still holding his stomach.
"Looks like I won't have to waste my time killing you, Demetri." Anton Roman stated blankly. My hand fell to my side and was shaking widely. My other hand was practically at my mouth before it froze and started to shake. A tear slipped from my eye. I heard quick footsteps behind me. I turned around and kept my eyes open this time to get good aim at Anton. I pulled the trigger a couple times and he dodged every bullet. I shot the gun a couple more times and the bullets hit him in the chest but that didn't stop him. He continued to charge at me. I moved my gun up a little and pulled the trigger shooting my last bullet; this time with my eyes closed. I waited a minute or two before opening my eyes. Anton was a couple feet in front of me. He was stone still. A whole in the middle of his forehead. He fell backwards; dead. I fell to the ground and sat there for a moment in utter fear. I then stood up and ran to Demetri's left side. I fell to my knees and looked down at his wound then up at his pain filled face.
"Adelina..." He said almost in a whisper
"I'm so sorry Demetri. I didn't know it was you! If I knew! If I had my eyes open when I turned around I wouldn't have shot you." I said shaking my head.
"I'm sorry. I couldn't stay away." He choked out. More tears fell from my eyes. I wanted to call him an idiot but I couldn't bring the words to my mouth. He raised his hand up to put on my cheek but stopped halfway and let his hand drop. I grabbed it before It fell all the way to the ground and put it on my cheek.
"I-I need to take the bullet out." I stated. He started to cough and wince in pain.
"There's no point." He said shaking his head.
"Yes there is!" I snapped at him. He shook his head again.
"Ah! I don't care what you say! I'm taking it out!" I shouted at him. He chuckled a little but winced in pain. I searched my pockets for a knife but couldn't find one.
"I have to get a knife from my bag." I said taking his hand away from my cheek and putting it on his stomach. He nodded and closed his eyes tightly.
"Don't give up on me." I stated while I stood up. He didn't say anything. He just lay there in pain. I jumped over him and ran over to my bag. I opened it up and searched for a knife or dagger. The only thing I could find was a silver dagger Demetri had made for me when he repaired my silver rapier and he some how got into my bag before he left me. I ran back over to him and sat where I was sitting before.
"I only have the silver dagger you made me. It's going to hurt a lot." I stated slowly pulling his shirt up. He just nodded. I hesitated for a moment but stabbed the dagger into the wound that the bullet made. Demetri's scream of pain hit my ears. I could feel my heart drop into my stomach.
"I'm sorry." I said as tears slipped from my eyes. I moved the dagger around a little until I found the bullet. I scooped the bullet out and quickly pulled the knife out causing Demetri to scream in pain again. I dropped the knife and tried to think of what to use to stop the bleeding. These are the only clothes left that I have on me... I thought.
"Do you have your bag with you?" I asked. He shook his head.
"It got annoying so I threw it away." He stated opening his eyes.
"I don't have a clean cloth to put on your wound to stop the bleeding." I said trying to think of what I can use. Then it hit me. The only peices of cloth I had on me that were just decent and clean enough to use to stop the bleeding and not get the wound infect are the pieces of the cloth I wore. My shirt and pants. I pondered about it for a couple other minutes before I made a snap decision. I quickly pulled off my shirt, rolled it up and put it on his wound. I was now sitting there in my bra and the pants that I had cut to be long shorts. Demetri's heavy breathing stopped and I quickly looked up at him to see if he was still alive. He was just staring at me.
"Don't stare at me like that!" I shouted looking back down at his wound trying to keep my face from blushing. His breathing started up again and he quietly chuckled. Something warm hit my knee cap. I was scared to look down but did it anyway. It was blood. Demetri was bleeding so bad that his blood had already started to make a small pool on the ground.
"There's no use. I've already lost to much blood. By the time I heal enough and get enough strength to go get blood I'll be dead from loss of blood." He strained to say.
"Shut up." I whispered feeling the tears swell in my eyes.
"Adelina. It's not going to do anything." He said softly putting his hand on mine. Tears started to slip from my eyes again. No no no no no! I thought over and over again. I took my hands away from his wound and stared down at it. I thought over the idea I had floating in my head. It's the only way to save him. I thought. I looked up at his pain filled face once again. He looked a lot paler and I don't think that was possible. I lay down next to him, using my right arm to hold me up, and put his left arm around my shoulders. I moved the bracelet I had on my wrist up to my elbow with my teeth and struggled to make it tighter; using it like a turnicate. I then placed my wrist in front of his mouth.
"Drink my blood." I ordered sternly. His eyes widened and he looked at my wrist then at my face quickly.
"No." He finally said.
"Please." I said almost in a pleeding tone.
"Why? Why would you ask me to do that?" He questioned. I didn't answer I just gave him a stern look.
"Why would you ask me to bite you!? If I do then you'll turn into a vampire! You know that right!?" He shouted at me. I nodded.
"Then why!? Why would you ask me, tell me! To bite you! To turn you into something that you hate!" He asked grabbing my wrist with his right hand.
"Because." I asked laying down fully putting my right arm bent in front of me.
"Because why!?" He snapped.
"I love you..." I finally said. His grip loosened on my wrist. I looked up at his face to see if I could read it. He just looked surprised and another emotion was in there but I couldn't figure out what it was. He stayed quiet for a minute and then looked at my wrist.
"Are you sure?" He asked kissing my wrist.
"Yes. Please. If it'll save you." I whispered closing my eyes. I felt his sigh against my wrist. Then I felt a horrible pain go from my wrist to my elbow. I winced and surpresed a gasp of pain. I continued to hold back the whimpers of pain my body wanted to let out. I opened my eyes and stared at Demetri's side as I listened to him hungerily drink the blood from my wrist, and me. Soon my eyelids started to feel like weights. My eyes started to slowly close. My eyes moved up from staring at Demetri's side to up at my wrist and his face. His left hand gripped my shoulder tightly. Finally his lips pulled away from my lips. I let out a breath of relief and breathed heavily. My left hand, wrist, and arms touched Demetri's chest as he put it down. He reached over and used his right hand to unlatch the bracelet that was tightly around my arm. The grip he hand on my shoulder loosened and he started to stroke my shoulder. His chest heaved up and down from not taking in a breath while drinking my blood. Darkness started to slowly consume my vision.
"Adelina?" I heard Demetri call but it was only a muffle. My hearing started to go and so did almost all of my senses. The sound of my loud heart struggling to beat slowly started to fade along with my heavy breaths. My left hand went numb and then my arm. My breathing started to grow shallow.
"Adelina!?" Demetri called again. My eyes started to close even more. Before my eyes closed all the way heard Demetri say "I love you Adelina"
"I love...you too...Demetri." I choked out before my eyes closed all the way and before I plunged into the quiet still darkness I thought to be death.
Adelina lay in Demetri's arms. Her breathing got weaker and weaker. Adelina took in her last breath as her heart stopped. The last words they spoke to each other before both their eye's closed were 'I love you.'
Yay! My second finished story! I feel really accomplished! [: I hope you liked it. This little story was what was delaying part 6? of Improbabilities to come out :D Sorry if there were any misspellings or grammar issues. I must have missed them cause I literally just spent the last 2-3 hours carefully reviewing it while stuff was getting thrown at my by my sister. Sorry if it was boring and such. I truly hoped you liked it (:
