Once upon a time,

fairy tale

–noun

1. a story, usually for children, about fairies, dragons, princes, princesses, or other magical creatures.

2. an incredible or misleading statement, account, or belief.

Also called fairy story.

conte de fées ; das Märchen ; fiaba; bajka ; cuento de hadas.

They're all the same. The princess gets kicked out of home for some reason, she befriends every single animal alive, the ugly criminal tries to kill the princess, and eventually, the brave, heroic, dashingly gorgeous prince saves her, and marries her.

The princess, of course, has to be the most beautiful girl in existence, with a voice naturally sounded like a trained professional singer.

The prince needs to be the hottest prince ever, that happens to be oblivious of the princess and the fact that YES SHE'S ALIVE, until he finally sees her or hears her voice or whatever, and he falls in love at first sight.

Of course, their 'love at first sight' is not just physical attraction AT ALL, the prince can already tell that they are fated to be together, and let's just ignore the sexy guy at the grocery store who's crushing on the girl and vice versa, because the princess and the prince are MEANT TO BE TOGETHER.

Also, we must ignore the fact that if you say that the prince and the princess should hook up, it sounds like some kind of illegal incestuous relationship, which never happens in fairy tales, because hey, although the prince and the princess are from the same kingdom, they happen to NEVER BE RELATED AT ALL.

She flips to the last page of the fairy tale, biting her bottom lip until warm, angry blood flows out.

Her tongue lashes out, lapping it up, but no, she is not a vampire; they only exist in romance or horror novels as perfect beings with one imperfection- bloodlust.

She envies those characters. She envies how they can have such a perfect life. She envies how the girl can always be a Mary Sue, and yet nobody ever hates her. She envies how the perfect girl and the perfect guy can always get together, and how they can create such a perfectly perfect life, and they'll be in love forever, and never have an argument, or die and all that shit.

Fairy tale characters never die.

In other words, a lie.

She believes fairy tales (1) are indeed fairy tales (2).

All that misleading shit about perfect endings, and perfect people, and perfect relationships.

She used to believe that fairy tales were real, that people could really have happy endings.

Now, as she stares at the shining ring on her middle finger, she realizes that it's all a lie. There is no such thing.

She ignores the tinkling sound of silver on a pine floor. Getting up, she turns around, ready to head back to where she started, to live out reality as it is, no matter how difficult or how true it is.

And they lived happily ever after.

The End.
