Macey could never get used to her physical body. She always thought of it as an awkward second skin she could shed when she got back into the RealWorld. She absolutely hated having that huge, poufy, curly, brown hair! Thankfully, she didn't spend much time in her house. In the RealWorld, she was a skinny beautiful blond.
Right now, she was strolling along the sidewalk in The Park, watching people playing with their Pets and chatting. She looked down at herself, only to realize that she was still wearing the same clothing from yesterday! She squeezed her eyes shut and whispered, "Closet." The menu dropped down in front of her eyes. She quickly scanned it, then decided she'd try on her new outfit from Saturday's shopping expedition. She blinked, and the menu disappeared.
"Mirror," she said. The mirror appeared in her vision, and she admired the effect. She looked pretty dang snazzy, if she did say so herself. She blinked again, and set off at a faster pace for the cafe where she was going to meet Monta.
The cafe was called Le Pointe (but everyone said it luh pwahn, because it was French), and it was the cozy kind with lots of huge squishy armchairs and a fireplace. Monta was at their usual table by the window, and waved merrily as Macey walked in.
"I already ordered you a toasted croissant and a cocoa, but it hasn't come yet."
Macey smiled and hugged her, then sat down in her own seat. Monta was pale, with green eyes and black hair. She wasn't stick-thin like Macey, and so Macey supposed she wasn't as sensitive about her Home Body. Sometimes she wondered what Monta looked like away from the RealWorld, but if she didn't want anybody to know, Macey wouldn't ask.
As Monta inundated her with chatter from her other friends, Macey thought that her life would be perfect if she never had to leave the RealWorld. Why they had to spend the nights in their houses was beyond her. But when her croissant arrived, she decided she didn't care that much after all.
