She may not have seemed the type, but sure enough Addy was having a full blown panic attack. She was scared, she didn't want to go down the tunnel by herself. What if she died? She shuttered at the very thought and pushed it far, far into the back of her mind. Or at least she attempted to ignore that fear the best she could.
Currently Clarissa was having an argument with Billy, she also didn't want to go down then tunnel, and unlike Addy wasn't afraid to speak up and object. However it really didn't matter considering the man was just ignoring her and talking to Will. Addy couldn't see any of this, she was going by sound. The room was dark and none of them had bothered to have one of the numerous lighters out.
"And that's final," Clarissa finally ended her long tirade. It was here that Billy finally stopped whatever he had been saying to Will and focused in on the blond.
"So how long do you think we can last without water. Last I heard it was only three days before you die of dehydration. Now how long do you think it will be, before we find water?" he questioned her in a slightly mocking tone.
"How am I suppose to know that," Clarissa said. Her haughty voice had somewhat lost its edge though as she took in what he had said.
"Exactly, you don't know. None of us do. That's why we can't waste time sitting around here, because your scared. I personally don't want to die in a cave with you." he was harsh.
Clarissa didn't have anything to say back. Addy kind of felt sorry for her in that moment. Sure what Billy had said was true, but did he really have to be so callous about it. They were all frightened and the possibility of them dying was increasing with every passing hour, what they didn't need was for him to shove it down their throats.
After that it was time to get moving. Billy had lit his lighter and had showed the girls the tunnels that he wanted them to go down. They were the two that were close together. Will moved so he was sitting in between them, a blue and yellow lighter in each hand. Addy saw him smile up at the two of them before Billy moved off with his light towards his own tunnel.
"Don't forget one hour," he said before he moved foreword into his tunnel.
Clarissa was next, lighting the red lighter. She adjusted her purse strap, which she had refused to leave behind with Will. She then moved steadily into her own tunnel. It was amazing how she showed no fear, when only seconds before she had been terrified of going on alone.
Then Addy, with shaky hands lit her own lighter. Her breathing became a little ragged as she stared down the long pathway. It may have been tall enough for her to walk through and wide enough for her small frame to fit, but that didn't lessen the amount of not wanting to go.
"No worries, Billy will most likely die first," Will said trying to comfort her. Addy laughed in a nervous sort of way. She appreciated his effort though, it gave her the courage to take the first step foreword and then the next, and next, till she was a few feet in. Addy only glanced back once to see Will lighting his second lighter, and then she set off to what would hopefully be an exit.
It would figure that he would get the tunnel that started to become smaller and smaller the further he went down. Just the fact of life, if you're the bigger person out of the group, you will end up getting something that didn't fit. Mind you, he wasn't claustrophobic at all, but that didn't make him like crawling on his hands and knees. It was a degrading position. Billy wondered lightly if there was something wrong with him, when all he could think about at the moment was how he hated being lowered to this position. Did this make him worse then that shallow blond?
Cursing slightly, when he saw that the walls had come closer together, he just managed to squeeze foreword. He wasn't very sure if Will would be able to do this. Trying to crawl and keep the lighter lit was not an easy task and sometimes he had to let his light go out in order to maneuver through a particularly rough patch. It was during one of those times that his hand reached out to lightly graze a wall. He moved his hand around a bit, seeing if there was an opening anywhere. When all he felt was the rock he flicked the lighter on and looked around. Sure enough it was a dead end. Well that was until he looked up and saw that he could very well start climbing up.
Did he really want to risk it though? One wrong move and he could slip and…..get stuck half way down. There was no way possible that he could fall to his death, with it being so narrow. No he might get a bit banged up, but nothing to worry about. Then again one of the girls could have found another way out, an easier way out. He reached into his pocket to pull out his cell phone. He still had some time to look a bit further.
He put the phone back in his pocket and with a lot of hesitation, his lighter. There was no way he would be able to climb with that in his hand. He could of course try, but he really didn't want to drop it and not have a source of light at all. The thought of trying to go back without even the little bit of light that the lighter provided was a bit off putting. With everything stored away safely in his pocket, Billy reached up for a good hand hold and pulled himself up.
Cappuccino's were nice, as was sunbathing, oh and going shopping. If she just thought about things that she liked or about what she would rather be doing, then she could move forward. One step at a time, one good thought and she kept going. Clarissa was having a difficult time keeping herself from running back to where Will was waiting. Once she had left the sight of his light, her fear had increased tenfold, and walking became a very difficult task.
What about hitting that horrible, annoying, idiot smoker with a bat. Now that was a good thought, it even brought a smile to her face. Yes, that was it she would think of all the wonderful ways that Billy could die. Both of her hands had to clutch her small light in order to keep it lit. With just one hand, it kept going out because she was shaking so bad. She also had to check her phone every two minutes waiting for it to say it was time to head back.
Nothing of particular interest happened as she continued on, something of which Clarissa was very grateful for. She had seen the Decent and the Centipede and she was not in a movie thank you very much. Both of the movies hadn't seemed all that frightening when she had watched them with her friends. In fact she had been laughing at how ridiculous they had seemed. However now that she herself was in a cave, the thought that some creature was lying in wait just around the corner had her wanting to scream in advance.
Thinking about those two movies had her eagerly moving her hand into her purse. She checked the time once more. Finally, she could head back, maybe the other two would have had better luck. If not then all of them could just go down this tunnel a bit more. Clarissa had just turned back around to rush back, when something in the air stopped her. It was a slightly familiar scent and it had her pausing. Curious she made to continue on. Fear momentarily forgotten in her quest to find out what that smell was.
It only took her a few minutes till she reached the source. Once she rounded a slight corner, there it was giving the small room a small glow. It was a wonderful pound of sparkling water. She gave a slight squeal of delight and rushed over to kneel down at it. Disregarding all the manners and decorum she had been taught, cupped her hands and started eagerly drinking handfuls of the wonderful liquid.
Once she had her fill, she reached into her bag to pull out an empty water bottle. It had been half full when she had been in the elevator. She had only taken small sips of it when they had to crawl through that first tunnel, but then she and the others had shared it after their small nap. She would fill this up and they can drink it all up and then they could come back for more. Clarissa was so excited that she had been able to find water, that'll show Billy. Of course they still didn't have a way out, but at least they wouldn't die from lack of water.
Happily humming she filled the bottle and tightly screwed the cap back on before setting it back in her purse. She was just about to cup her hand for one last drink, when she saw two wide eyes staring out at her from the water. It was alright though she had been prepared for this, her mouth opened wide and she screamed before jumping and making a run for it, and barely missed running into the wall as she did so.
Addy was positive that she was walking downwards. Weather that was a good thing remained to be seen. It was kind of like she was back at home and just walking down the hill towards the bus stop. Yes, walking down hill to the bus stop, at night, and through an alleyway, that had a roof, the exact same thing really.
She wondered how the others were faring in their own tunnels. Then she wondered how Will was doing sitting there all on his own. She wished that the two of them could switch places. He at least had two lights to keep him company, while she only had her one dull little thing in comparison. That had her thinking about what would they have done if Will hadn't hurt his leg. Would one of them had still stayed behind? Or would one tunnel have two people? Would it have really mattered if she had had Will, Billy, or Clarissa for company?
Yes, it probably would have helped her a lot if she wasn't alone. She would have had somebody to talk to, or rant as the case may have been. Addy might have talked up a storm, just so that she wouldn't have to think about what was happening.
There wasn't anything really to say about walking downwards. Addy didn't really feel like she was going anywhere, it was more like she was walking in place. Nothing changed and she just kept walking. She had set the alarm on her phone for when she would need to go back, so there wasn't any need to check what time it was.
Addy was in fact a bit disappointed when the slight beeping sound came and she hadn't found any sort of exit. With one last look down her path, she turned around and started back towards Will. It was only a few minutes after this had occurred that she heard the scream.
He felt kind of sticky. Billy wasn't one to sweat, he didn't like the feel of it on his skin. The only time it was acceptable was during sex. That was it, other physical activities were not worth it. Climbing was one of said activities that were not on his list of things that he should put forth enough effort to actually sweat. Yet he kept moving, kept putting one hand up further and pulling himself up the wall. While this way had gotten a bit wider so that he wasn't all that cramped in, it still wasn't the most comfortable way to move.
Billy was determined to find an end to this cave. He wanted out, he was tired of this never ending darkness, he was thirsty, hungry, and just exhausted. His mood had turned sour the moment the little beads of sweat had come out. Before he was able to keep a neutral, sort of resolute attitude going, but that was over. Each foot up didn't seem to matter much more then the last one did.
When he found a ledge that was able to have both of his feet on at the same time, he took a slight break. With the walls still being relatively close he was able to lean his back against the other side. Pulling out his lighter, he wished that he could have taken out a cigarette as well. That would have definitely had a calming effect on him. However he didn't want to find himself with a face full of smoke, not a pleasant experience, would have killed any pleasure he would have found in smoking.
A slight thrill went up through his body when he saw that just a few feet above him there seemed to be a substantial ledge. Moving quickly he put away the lighter and started up towards it. He could only move himself up enough so that his arms were resting on this new edge and his feet were still down in the tunnel.
His lighter was no longer necessary, for there far down was an opening. Billy could see grass, he could see trees, a bit further out then that. He would have given a shout of success if he didn't think that the tunnel would collapse just to spite him. Also because of the animal that had just hopped just a few feet outward from the tunnel. Squinting a bit, Billy thought that it looked a bit like a rabbit. Would have betted money on that, until the thing seemed to hiss and opened it's mouth to reveal unnaturally long fangs that no rabbit possessed. Before the thing could move another animal like thing came out of nowhere and started tearing it to pieces. The rabbit like animal had no chance, not even with it's mutant fang teeth. This other thing was huge and had claws on it larger then the other's head.
With a startled gasp at the savage destruction, Billy lost his footing and started falling downwards.
AN: I don't own either of the two movies that I mentioned. I've seen Decent and yes I was very scared. I only saw the beginning part of Centipede, before I decided that while it was not such a great film, I was not willing to watch another movie where the people are trapped in a cave. I also didn't get my idea from either of those movies, the story was starting to remind me of them.
I have an idea of where it's going, well sort of. Just to where they get out of the cave and the place they end up after that. That seems to be all my planning skills are capable. I'm sorry that I'm such a slow updater, I'm going to blame lazyness and school, but mostly the first one.
