Atropos and Thanatos were born three years apart on the same day. Some would even joke that they were 'fated' to be best friends
"You're leaving?"
The shock if my voice caused him to look up. He stood frozen in place, deciding whether to answer my question or continue packing.
"I have to." He stuffed more clothes into his bag. "One day you will too."
"I'll never leave." I crossed my arms.
Thanatos presented Atropos a blood orange tree on her fifth birthday. Telling her that it was the one place she could always find him. Even after he left.
"You're only twelve." He chuckled. "In three years you'll be thinking differently."
"In three years you won't be here." I couldn't help the tremor in my voice.
His face softened when he saw the tears in my eyes. I looked away not wanting to show any weakness. He motioned for me to come over. I reluctantly sat on the bed by his bag.
"Listen." He took my face in my hands. "I will be back. Understand?"
On his fifteenth birthday Thanatos left to start the life he had been born to lead. Leaving behind a disheartened Atropos.
I didn't say anything, afraid that I would start crying in front of him.
He forced my gaze back to his face. "And when I get back we will still be best friends."
"Promise?" I asked, a sense of hope returning to my heart.
His face irrupted in a wide grin. "I Promise."
That same day Atropos received her first premonition. Thanatos' absence is what many believe caused her abilities to emerge . . . prematurely.
AN: This is the prologue to my newest story. It's loosely based off of Greek mythology and is about the relationship between the god of death (Thanatos) and one of the three Fates (Atropos). Its new project and baby so I hope everyone enjoys it, and I should have the first chapter up sometime this weekend.
Review if you feel the urge!
