Nike!

Floating,
Another clowd in the sky.
Drifting,
Another student in a dream.

Feet are planted firmly,
Launching off the ground.

Step by step,
Foot by foot,
Breath by breath.
Person by person.

Take the lead.

Arms swing,
Windmills in full motion.
Lungs empty,
Two deflated balloons.

Muscles scream,
Chest constricts,
Side burns.

Pain.
It is a treasure,
A gift.
Yet a punishment too.

Past the finish now,
Past the pain now,
Past the Point of No Return.

"Nike!"
Shout it!
Yell it,
Scream it!

Finished.
No more.
Darkness falls upon,
Fog rolls in.

Again:
Floating,
Another cloud in the sky.
Drifting,
Another student in a dream.

You have won.
Nevertheless been defeated,
Once moreā€¦
By exhaustion.

Yay, running. Not.
This has a real vague feeling to it. So I'm guessing you'll really have to understand what running your heart out is to get what this poem means. You'll need to know the whole "Nike!" = "Victory!" thing too...
