Chapter 2: The Past Revealed

As I walked down the hall, looking for Bartimaeus, I saw many students, in various forms. Some still in their human forms, others in their true forms. Werewolves, ogres, what I can only assume to be minotaurs, and others I can't even name.

I kept walking until I spotted him directing some new students.

"Yeah, it's just a little ways down the hall." he told them, pointing down a corridor to his left.

They muttered a thanks and left. "Oi, Bartimaeus, where's the Deans office?" I asked him.

"It's at the top of the boys dormitory tower. Why?" he answered.

"You're the one who told me to ask him my questions, so I am." I said as I walked towards the stairs.

Half an hour later, I was still walking up the stairs. "What the hell?" I muttered to myself, out of breath. "How high is this thing?" I stlopped and looked out a window. There was still at least twenty more floors to go. "Aww! To hell with it all!" I shouted, climbing up on the window ledge. "I'm flying!" I jumped, sprouting wings as I did. I soared up, past dozensof windows, faster than any bird eve could. I glanced down, seeing heads poking out, staring up at me.

I reached the top in a matter of seconds, and landed on the window ledge.

"My my my." I heard a voice say. "This is the first time a student has ever flown up to my office.

"Well, if you didn't have so many damned- Wait, your office?" I asked.

"Yes, welcome . I am Dean Blaine Froidz." He said, stepping into the light. "Why have you come here?"

"I have some questions for you." I answered. "How did you find me? How did you know I was a dragon?"

"Ahh. yes. I thought it might come to this." he said slightly. "I suppose I do owe you an explanation." he walked over to a desk and sat down. He motioned to the seat across the desk. "Sit." he said. "We have much to discuss."

I sat. "Now, answer my questions." I told him.

"As you wish." he replied calmly. "I can answer both of your questions at once. I was a friend if your fathers."

"You knew my parents!" I shouted, standing so quickly I knocked over my chair.

"Yes, indeed I did. Now sit down, or I won't tell you anymore." he waited until I sat, then continued. "Your father an I had known each other sonce we were young. Always getting into trouble, but thats another story. The night your parents died, they sent for help. I of course went right away, but alas... I was too late. A clan of dragon hunters had attacked, your parents had died to keep them from you. I found you, still a small dragon fledgling, and took you. I brought you to the human world, and left you. I arranged for you to live in that appartment, and sent you enough money to get bye. And, when you were old enough, I brought you here, to learn about your past, as well as sour ancestry and survival." when he finnished, he sat back and folded his hands. "Well?" he asked.

"Wow, I had no idea... Thank you, for all of this. If it hadn't have been for you, I'd be dead." I said, standing to go.

"Well, you're welcome. Though no thanks was needed. My only regret was I was not fast enough to save your parents." he said quietly, I could hear the sorrow in his voice. "Well, off you go!Classes start tomorrow." he said, waving me off.

"Thank you, again." I said quietly, and jumped out the window.

Back in the dorm room, Furion was stretching out his horse legs. "Aahhh, thats just what I needed." He turned towards the window, where an odd whistling soind was coming. "What the-" he started, just before I crashed through the window. "AAAAHH!H!" Furion screamed.

"Oww." I said getting up. "Shit, I think I cut a wing." I muttered, shaking glass out of my hair. "Hi Furion. Whats u- Ohh Dude! You dropped horse apples on the floor!" I shouted, pointing to a pile of horse shit.

"Well you scared me!" he shouted back.

"Clean it up!" I yelled.

"With what?" he shouted, wavinghis arms around.

"Screw it." I muttered. Taking a deep breath, I blew a stream of fire, buring the poo until it was no more. "Theres one mess cleaned up. What're we gonna do about the glass?" I asked.

"Well, I'll get a broom." he said, changing back to his human form. "You figure out something to do with the window."

"Got it." I said as he urned to leave the room.

"And put your wings away, they're taking up too much space."

"This room is huge!" I called after him. "How are they taking up too much space?" But, I got rid of them, for the sake of peace. "Now what about the window...?" I whispered, looking out said window. I looked all around, looking for inspiration. Seeing hundreds of windows from other rooms, light filtering through them."Got it." I said, climbing out the window.

Furion came back, carrying a broom and dust pan. "Where the hell did you get the window?" he asked, pointing to the new glass in our window frame.

"I, uuhh, asked a janitor." I answered quickly.

"Where the hell is our window?!" shouted someone below us.

"What was that?" asked Furion.

"Nothing." I said.

"But I heard-"

"Lights out!" I shouted, turning off the lights.
