"Livy!" someone shouted behind me. "Livy wait!"
The fact that I could hear him period was proof that my iPod's volume was substantially too low. Turning up the volume, I shook my head in disbelief. "I'm not stupid. And I'm not stopping." I muttered to myself. I was already late for school. Well not so much late as I ditched my first two classes to go to IHOP. I needed some time to myself. And the 7:15 tardy bell was just not my friend this morning. And to say the least, he was killing the buzz that the fruit and whip cream topped pancakes gave my system.
"Livy." the voice sounded closer than before, the fact that I could hear it was proof enough.
No matter, I still ignored him.
"Alivia." the voice was right behind me now.
I still ignored him, intently listening to Motioncity Soundtrack as they sung My Favorite Accident.
"Alivia! I know you hear me..." he drawled appearing next to me matching my stride.
"Of course I hear you. You have to be deaf not to hear you..." I said still journeying down the hall. "Yelling and shouting down the hallway after me like you have lost your mind. You must be crazy." I murmured, just loud enough for him to hear.
"Very mature. Walk off like I'm not talking to you." Shannon said.
"I'm not talking to you Shannon. That should give you the hint that I don't want to talk to you." I hissed.
"You're talking to me now." he stated bluntly with a smug smile.
"I'm frankly stating my case. And before I was talking about you to your face. There's a significant difference..." I looked down at my Blackberry with a frown. It was 9:02, class would take in at 9:05 and I had yet to climb the treacherous stairs.
"You piss me off so bad." Shannon said with an audible groan.
I laughed quietly. "You don't have to worry about that anymore." I murmured simply mere inches from the stairwell's door.
"And why's that?" Shannon asked taking a few steps towards me.
Simply to throw him off, I closed the distance between us and brought myself up to the full 5'7 in my heels whispering, "Because we're done." my lips brushing against his I pulled away.
His smiled faded as his skin paled with the realization of my words. By the time he'd reached his little epiphany, I'd made it up the first set of stairs. "This is because of Denise isn't it?" he said appearing behind me.
Sneaky little bastard. I didn't even hear him coming.
"I told you that she meant nothing to me. She wasn't even that good." he finished.
I stared at him incredulously. "So you did sleep with her then?" I inquired, inwardly smiling at the predicament. "Because I remember you saying that you didn't."
I hadn't had a good reason breaking up with the dunce. Hell, I didn't have a reason at all. But his stupidity had ultimately given me one, and I was going to use it to the fullest.
Realization lit up once again in Shannon's light gray eyes. He smoothed his cropped dark hair out of his face, something he only did when he was nervous, scared, or lying.
I wonder which one it was this time. If I know him like I think I do, it's a mixture of all three.
He let out a nervous sigh before sputtering out the almost indecipherable words of "Aw shit. Livy babe."
I spun around letting my pale blue eyes smolder before him. "No. I said I'm done. You cheated on me with Denise of all people. I don't care how drunk you were. If you wanted to have sex, you could have called your own girlfriend. Instead you chose to cheat on me with that slut. That's an unforgivable offense in my book. I'm sorry but this is good bye. And I don't give second chances." I spat harshly, finally grazing the door of my spanish class.
"Baby please." Shannon pleaded.
Hmph. The captain of the soccer team, Shannon Gray, is begging me not to dump him... Me. The Junior class president. Aren't these roles supposed to be reversed? I contemplated the thought futher before settling on the conclusion of Whatever...
"Shannon. Spare yourself the embrassment. I'm not going to take you back." I turned to walk into class. But at that moment, a thought, and a particuarally nasty, one crossed my mind. Just to be cruel I cooed, "Maybe you can call Denise. I'm sure that she'll be more than pleased to help you through the pain of our break-up." I smiled cruelly.
The sad thing is that during our little lover's quarrel, the bell rang. The kicker is, I didn't hear it and it was 10 minutes ago.
"Livy." Shannon said falling to his knees.
Oh not this again...
"I said I'm done." The finality in my words hung in the air like a dense fog as I spun around on my heel and marched into the class. All eyes were on me when I opened the door. "Good Morning." I said with a smile.
The teacher smiled at me. "Miss Gordon," I could hear disdain dripping off his words, "You've finally decided to grace us with your presence."
I smiled bright hoping to get out of getting a tardy. "I'm sorry Mr. Henderson. There was a fight in the hallway, a big crowd and everything." I lied.
He smiled back, making himself look even more creepier (if that's possible), "I'm sorry too. Go get a tardy."
"Excuse me?" I said putting my stuff on my desk.
"Don't play coy with me. Go get a tardy pass." he repeated.
"Damnit all." I muttered to myself. Grabbing my purse, I slowly made my way back to the door. I took a peek out of the window, making sure that Shannon wasn't still out there.
"Would you like a detention for disturbing my class Miss Gordon?" Henderson asked.
"I knew there was a reason that I didn't like you..." I said loudly pushing the door open so hard that it lurched forward slamming against the wall.
"2 Hours it is." I heared him say as the door closed.
"What are you doing out here?" my twin brother Anthony asked.
"Henderson sent me to get a tardy. Bell rang 2 seconds ago..."
Anthony looked at me like I was stupid. "Bell rang 15 minutes ago."
I shrugged. "And I don't care." I said punching him in the arm.
"I just saw Shannon. Poor guy looked broken. What'd you do?"
"Why does it always have to be my fault?" I asked mildly offended.
He gave me a look that said, "It always is."
Still disgusted with my brother's know it all attitude, I defended myself. "He cheated on me with Denise. I did what I had to do."
"Denise. You mean Denise Tran. As in the school's biggest slut?" my brother's nose wrinkled in disgust.
I nodded in response to his trio of questions.
"Good god. I thought that he had more class than that. And to do it to you, he's got to be stupid. I've lost all respect for the guy now." Anthony shook as if he'd just tasted something nasty.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I nearly shouted startling him from his own stupidity.
"It means that I lost all respect for the guy. For an Honor student, you're really slow Liv." he said knocking on my head for comical effect.
It wasn't funny in the least bit. "I mean what you said before that jackass." I punched him in the arm and kicked him in the shin simultaneously earning a groan of displeasure and pain.
"You're mean. And it meant that the school calls you an Ice Queen for a reason." he frowned as he rubbed his shin. "I'm starting to side with them. But more on the bitch side, than the maneater side. You have on the pointy shoes today. We talked about it this." He pointed to my feet and sure enough I had on my Christian Dior stilettos.
"I know, I know. Round about shoes or no round about kicks." I recited the little ryhme we made up for my point shoe kicks. I smiled at him angelically, "I'm sorry big brother."
"Now that's more like it." He cleared his throat before continuing. "You don't seem too broken up about it."
I assumed that he was talking about the break-up and continued on with my tirade. "I'm not. I was looking for a way out of the relationship and he gave me one." I smiled smugly, remembering the look of horror on Shannon's face.
"Arrogance does not become you Livy." he stated dragging me back down off cloud nine. He sounded like my mother... Well our mother.
I gave him a stiff middle finger before contuining. "What are you doing in the hall?" I asked.
His eyes darted away from mine, "Um, I'm going to go find Katelyn." he said innocently holding the door open for me as we ventured off the academic hallway.
"Please don't ditch. I don't have a ride home now." I whined.
"I don't understand why you don't drive your own car to school. You know how your temper is..." he complained.
"Because, if I have a boyfriend he can take me where I need to go. Besides it's good for our image together." I said thoughtfully.
"Well. You should have waited until he took you home to break up with him." he muttered. Quickly adding, "That sounds like something that you would say."
"That's because I said it." I drawled smiling.
Anthony's eyes narrowed into slits at the sight of Denise.
"What's you problem Gordon?" she asked cattily.
He began rubbing his eyes profusely. "Looking at sluts makes my eyes hurt." he replied bursting into laughter.
I laughed as the smug look on her face faded into a frown.
"Hey wait. I drove to school this morning. Nevermind." I said to my who frowned as he strode into the main office.
Maybe this won't be such a bad day after all...
