A young girl sits cross-legged in the grass, plucking petals from a dandelion. Her dark brown curls conceal her face as she murmurs "He loves me. He loves me not. He loves me. He loves me… Ooh!" The boy who ran into her, knocking her over and trampling her flower, gets up and keeps going. "Sorry!" he shouts over his shoulder. The mischief shining in his hazel eyes belies his words as he continues to run from his pursuer, a frilly pink clad youngster with blond plaits. They make another lap around the jungle gym. "Suzy, leave me alone!" he laughs. "..Not." she sighs to herself.

Her bushy hair is barely contained in a loose ponytail, and she sinks lower into the bus seat as she picks out the small wet wads of paper. A sigh escapes her chapped lips, a sigh saturated with unshed tears. She had stopped crying long ago, it only encouraged them. Her green eyes looked much to old to be in so young a face as she stared out the window. From the back of the bus comes raucous laughter, and she involuntarily flinches and hits her head on the glass. "Hey, Anne." Her eyes dart up in surprise. Green meets hazel, "Can I put my bag here?' He motions to the unoccupied half of her seat. She breaks eye contact and nods mutely, her lips forming a tentative smile. She receives a flashed grin and a thanks as he heads farther down the aisle and takes a seat next to Suzy. Anne peeks over the seat backs as Suzy flips her perfect blond hair back to show off her low cut top. Anne looks down at her baggy t-shirt and ill-fitting jeans, and tells herself she doesn't care.
