The Valentine's Day theme at the store was probably affecting my heart because it was pounding. "I like kissing," I blurted out to him. "Well I would, if I had someone to kiss," I rambled on. He just grinned and leaned in. I think we all know what happened after that…
Wendy's Wonders in Wonderland
Close your eyes and imagine a shop where magic happens. Not the magic that is found in books about, say, witchcraft and wizardry (i.e. Harry Potter) but the magic in which dreams become reality. Imagine a place where you can loose yourself in the flowers, the chocolates and the ribbons.
Do you see it? Good.
Now imagine a grumpy, pissed off 24/7, seventeen year old, all black wearing girl behind the till of the 'magical' store.
The imagine doesn't quite fit, does it?
Well, if you walk into Wendy's Wonders then that's the exact imagine you'll get. My mother owned that very shop you imagined. Wendy's Wonders was a place where you would buy chocolates for those special guys and gals, a place where flowers came in all shapes and sizes. Need frills too? Well the cutesy ribbons and bows come in handy.
The girl that you imagined was me.
That's right. My so called mother forced me into working at her store. She used the guilt speech on me. Every teenager has been fed the lies at some point in their lives. The speech where your mother tells you how hard it was to raise you but how they would have done anything for you and that all they were asking was for you to do this one thing for them. Then they'd give you that pouty look and say 'But it's okay, you don't have to do it if you don't want to'. Which obviously makes you feel all guilty inside and when you call them back (and note you haven't even agreed to anything) they jump and squeal and thank God for having a child like yourself.
Heard of that speech?
Yeah, I thought so.
Don't think Grandparents are all old and cutesy either. The things that they can make you do are unimaginable. Just ask my sister and her toenail file. I don't she ever recovered from that day.
.-_.x._.x._-.
"What?" I growled into my phone. I continued scribbling down some biology notes while breathing heavily into my phone.
"Well someone's in a perky mood," my sister, Annabella, said happily. I lightened up a little. I frowned nonetheless. "You should turn that frown upside down China."
Yes, my name is China. People always do a double take when I tell them what my name is.
"Why are you always in a good mood?" I asked her grumpily. I set my pen down and decided to take a small break. My eyes were killing me.
Don't wear contacts while studying next time!
"Hm, I don't know. I just had like five cups of coffee," she replied.
"You hate coffee," I deadpanned.
"Yes well it's the only thing that's keeping me alive in here," she whispered. I stifled a laugh as the image of Anna hiding behind a bush wearing army gear, popped into my head.
"Don't tell me, you're in Wonderland."
"You got it." Wonderland was the nickname my sister and I came up with for our mother's store.
Even though I was the rock chick in the family and Anna was the perky prep, she hated the store just as much as I did. The rose scented cards, the rose scented flowers and the rose scented…roses were just too much for us.
"You know what's worse?" she asked me.
"What?" I asked.
"It's the you-know-what week," she whispered. I froze. The date just slipped my mind. "You still there China? Chi-chi?" she said into the phone.
"Sorry, I think I threw up a little in my mouth."
"Okay, that's an image I didn't want in my head…oh god I think I'm going to barf," Anna said making gagging noises over the phone.
I frowned.
"I've said worse things than that Anna," I commented as she continued to gag.
"Oh no, it's not that. Mum's just brought in the banner for you-know-what week. It's hideously pink and lovely looking."
"Aw, don't you feel right at home?" I asked her teasingly.
"You're the best little sister I could ask for! I mean with you're supportive comments, you're just the dandiest thing!" she said sarcastically. I heard a noise in the background.
"What was that?" I asked worried.
"Oh, the backroom door closing. I'm outside now. The smell was getting to me," she said. "But aw, you cared. How nice!"
"Yeah, yeah. So, did you phone me up just to annoy me, or did you actually want something?" I asked her, realising that the conversation we had was a little…well, pointless.
"Hm…" she hesitated.
"How much do you need? You still owe me, like, twenty quid."
"Oh no it's not money, and I only owe you nineteen pounds."
"Same difference. What do you want anyhow?"
"Um…" she started off again. "I'm in last year of Uni and I need all the cash I can get, but I also need all the time I can get to study. I don't want to flunk out when I'm so close to reaching my goal."
I frowned, again.
"Anna, you're the cleverest in your class. You're predicted to pass with a first class degree. You won't flunk out."
"Nevertheless," she started. I sometimes resented her doing English as a degree. It made me feel so stupid when she came up with big fancy words.
Yes, nevertheless isn't a big fancy word…still, it wasn't necessary to say it in a informal conversation with her sister. I mean she could've said 'Well' or 'Whatever' or 'My point is…' but of course her being the English student, she needed to use 'nevertheless'.
Yes, that was a pointless rant.
"…so would you?"
"Huh?" I said intelligently. I sort of missed her talking while I was off ranting in my head.
"Would you take my shift for this week?" she asked, her voice tinting with hope. I scoffed.
"No."
"Why not?!" she cried over the phone. "Pleeaassee? I never ask you for anything! Just do this one thing for me!"
"No."
"Why not?!"
"Because it's you-know-what week! Besides, I have my A-levels to study for too you know."
"Yes, but they're not as important!" she said stubbornly.
I rolled my eyes.
"Right, they're only the exams that decide what university I get into. They're the tests that determine the rest of my life, but yeah they're not that important," I said sarcastically.
"Well look who's being all touchy about this. Please, China. You can take all the money and I'll take your shifts over the summer."
I hesitated before I said no. It was going to be my last summer of freedom and innocence (yeah right), so it would be worth while to be able to hang out with my friends regularly.
"Fine," I relented. I had to pull the phone away from my ear for a good two minutes because Anna was screaming so much.
"Anna! Are you okay?" a voice in the background asked. I stifled a laugh; it was my mum.
"Yes, yes I'm good. I'll be inside in a minute," I could hear Anna telling her. "Alright, I'm back. Aw, have I ever told you how much I love you?"
"No," I said grumpily wondering why I was easily persuaded.
"Well I love you. I do! I have to go now but have fun next week!" she said, I could almost see her winking playfully at me. I grunted and flipped my mobile shut.
"Fun?" I muttered to myself. "Yeah right. I'd rather stick pins in my eyes."
It was true, I would've rather have stuck pins in my eyes than have to work at the store for you-know-what week.
You-know-what week was…Valentine's Day week. -Barf here-
.-_.x._.x._-.
"Have a good day and please come again!" I said cheerfully, with my biggest grin ever. The happy couple thanked me and left. I scowled.
"Have a good day and please come again?" I mimicked myself. "More like have a horrible day and don't ever come back!"
Stupid store, I thought to myself.
In the last hour, there were fifty people who came into the store asking for 'something special' for their loved one. Each time I put a bright smile on and asked them about their partner. Like I actually cared.
Then with some careful consideration (a moment's hesitation about whether I should use the ribbon to hang myself) I would point them to the flowers – "Flowers indicate that they're beautiful or worthy" – then to the chocolates – "something sweet for someone special (wink)"- and then the extras (ribbons and bows) – "Just makes it stand out, ya' know?" They would then finally leave.
Only to have someone else come in.
"Mum! I'm taking my break!" I shouted.
"Okay but stay out here I might need you to help some customers. Thanks love!" she said before dashing off.
"Yeah sure, no problem. Thanks for asking!" I said sarcastically. I sat down behind the counter. I pondered to myself for a moment. Sitting behind the counter probably indicated to people that I was working, when I actually wasn't.
I got some paper, a felt tip and some ribbon.
"Oh really China?" my mum asked me as she saw what I had made. "Do you really need that?" she asked pointing to the sign I had just put around me. It said in big black letters 'ON BREAK DO NOT DISTURB'.
"Yes I do," I said nodding wisely. My mum just sighed and muttered something about 'teenagers'.
I took out my chemistry text book and started highlighting some notes. While my sister was the English wiz, I was the science wiz. Ironically enough, my brother was the maths wiz. We were all wiz's…wizards…whatever.
About ten minutes into my break, when I was absorbed into the world of Polymers and monomers, I heard someone clear their throats. Now I would help them, but my mum said that she would call me if she needed me to help a customer and I didn't hear her calling. So instead I sat up a little so they could read the sign.
A couple of seconds later someone cleared their throat again. I gritted my teeth and I too cleared my throat. I pointed at the sign around my neck.
Then again that person cleared their throat. I growled.
"How much clearer do I have to be?" I snapped, shutting my book. I scowled even further when I saw who was standing before me. "Desmond Dallis."
"The one and only," he said with his signature smirk.
"What do you want? Can you not see I'm on a break?" I asked crossing my arms.
"Yes I can, but your mum said it was okay to ask me for help since, you know, our parents are best friends."
"Well tell her I'm busy. I have A Levels to pass in case you hadn't noticed."
"Oh I've noticed," he said glancing at my book. "But that doesn't mean I care."
"Of course it doesn't. I want to pass my A Levels, which is much more than I can say for you. You don't seem to give two monkey's faeces."
"A lovely picture you've painted. Really," he said sarcastically. I rolled my eyes at him.
Desmond Dallis was the son of my mother's best friend. He and I grew up together, not in the sense we shared stories in our nappies while drinking milk, no, he and I were forced to interact with each other. Desmond annoyed the hell out of me, well almost anyway. He wouldn't stop teasing me and we wouldn't stop bickering. The only good thing that came out of all of this was that he was a pretty sight. I didn't mind the constant annoyance because he had one of those faces that you wouldn't help but warm up to. Until said person opens their mouth that is. So while he annoyed me to all ends, I was still that tiny bit warmed by him. This is why he could never get hell out of me.
"Well that's what I am, a true artist."
"Look," Desmond said after sighing. "I don't want to be here. I hate this place as much as you. I-"
"How'd you know I hate this place?" I asked him curiously.
"You're always telling everyone how you would rather sick pins in your eyes than work here."
"Oh."
"Yeah. Anyway, as I was saying," he said, in a voice that sounded annoyed that I had interrupted him. I would've said a snappy retort if I hadn't seen his eyes dancing mischievously. He did have beautiful hazel eyes. "-I need your help in picking something for someone."
"Don't they all, I mean this is Valentine's Day week," I sighed.
Hm, Valentine's day week was sort of an oxymoron, I thought happily to myself.
"Okay Tell me something about her, and I'll see what I can do." I felt a slight pang in my chest. I admit I did fancy him for a little while back when I was in year 10. Three years has made a difference because I no longer liked him in that sense.
I think.
"Um, well," he said scratching his brow. "I don't really…know." I frowned.
Some boyfriend he was.
"Oh wait, I have a list here…somewhere," he said rummaging through his pockets. "Aha! Here we go. Okay, she likes daises, sunflowers and tulips. She likes rose scented cards, pink ribbons and plain dark chocolate."
I frowned. That sounded all too familiar with our special offer.
"Has she been here before?" I asked suspiciously.
"No? I don't know? Maybe…" I rolled my eyes again.
"Come on."
After ten minutes of searching and packing I was done with Desmond's order. He added a little something extra with the gift. Lucky girl, I thought. Belgium chocolates were my favourites. I totalled up his purchase.
"That's twelve pounds and ninety pence."
"Here is fifteen. Keep the change," he said picking up his gifts. I put the money in the till.
No thanks? I thought grumpily.
I was about to open my book back up when Desmond suddenly came back. I raised an eyebrow at him.
"I just forgot something," he said putting a box down. "Oh…and thank you." He winked and walked off. I small smile touched my lips but I immediately frowned. I was utterly confused. He forgot something, so he left something behind?
Huh?
I looked down at the small neatly wrapped (if I do say so myself) gift. That smile was beginning to reappear on my face. He'd given me the Belgium Chocolates that I wrapped.
But why though? Didn't he have a girlfriend?
I sighed. I was about to put the chocolates away in my bag, to give to my sister but thought better of it and ate them.
They were some darn good chocolates.
.-_.x._.x._-.
The next time I saw Desmond, he was with another guy; Quentin. Desmond and Quentin were best friends. We didn't have cliques per se but classes. There were the popular upper class, the well known middle class, and the unknown lower class. I was a middle class girl through and through, but Desmond and Quentin were in the upper first class. They were undoubtedly two of the most sought out guys there.
"Hello there China," Desmond said winking. I rolled my eyes.
"Hi there and how can I help you?" I asked cheerfully.
"I thought you said you two were pals," Quentin said to Desmond. I snorted.
"We are. She is. I am. Tell him," Desmond said to Quentin. I cocked my head.
"I'm sorry sir, have we met before?" I asked pretending not to know him.
"China, I know you know him. We go to school together remember?" Quentin said laughing a little. I rolled my eyes.
"Well it was fun while it lasted. What can I help you with?" I asked them again. Quentin looked a little uncomfortable. Desmond just shook his head at him.
"Chocolates and some roses please?" he asked. I stared at him in disbelief.
"Again? How many girlfriends have you got?" I asked as I walked around the counter.
"Um," he said counting on his fingers. "None."
"Don't lie," I said rolling my eyes.
"What are you on about?" Desmond asked confused then realisation hit him. "Oh! The other day!"
"It was yesterday," I deadpanned.
"Yeah. Aw, look she thought I had a girlfriend!" he said grinning cutely at Quentin.
"Dude you just made it sound like you can't get a girl," Quentin said shaking his head. Desmond ignored him.
"Were you jealous?" Desmond asked me wagging his eyebrows. I pretended to gag.
"No. I was wondering how sick you could get. Dating two people at the same time is so not cool." A dark look fell upon his face.
"I know that. I'm not a player." I shrugged but the dark look on his face didn't leave his face.
"So any chocolates and roses, right?" I asked them again.
"Yeah," Desmond said. I roamed the shelves with my eyes, looking for something suitable to buy. "The stuff from yesterday was for Henry, he's got the cold and he has a girlfriend. He asked me to get the stuff for him. This stuff is for h-" Quentin not so subtly nudged him. "-a friend," he said instead. I frowned.
I felt a little…lighter, so to say. I frowned at myself.
"Okay," I said a little blankly.
I totalled up the order and Quentin paid, mumbling something about paying Desmond back some money.
"I'll wait in the car. Good to see you China," he said before leaving the store.
"Yeah, bye," I said a little distractedly. Desmond was giving me that same dark look.
I made head motions to ask him what he was still doing at the store.
"What makes you think that I'm a player?" he asked. "What do you even know? I mean do you even know me?"
Random much.
"I don't know you that well Desmond, I know that," I said thoughtfully. A weird look passed on his face. "I mean it's not like you know me that well either, is it?"
"Well that still doesn't justify why you'd call me a player."
"Look," I sighed. "There is a different girl leeching off your arm every week. You have no problem with her being there and you don't seem to look like you're annoyed by the fact. So sue me if I think you're a player because of it."
"You have no idea," he said quietly before turning on his heels and leaving. I bit my lip.
Was that mean of me to say?
.-_.x._.x._-.
"Anna you owe me like two big bowls of cereal," I huffed over the phone.
She laughed lightly. "Sure, sure. You have no idea how much work I'm getting done!" she said. I doubted the bit about work because I heard insane shrills of laughter.
"Yeah, I can tell," I said sarcastically. "My week is nearly up, so be prepared to come back into work."
"I'll enjoy this while it lasts! Got to go now hun, have fun!" she said in a sing-song voice before cutting the line.
She was my only source of normality and she just cuts the phone off. Thanks big sis, really.
It was officially Valentine's Day. The horror was soon to be over. The only people that came in to the store were those few who had forgotten to get anything for Valentine's Day.
I put my headphones in my ear and started listening to some good heavy metal, even though it wasn't my forte, it was better than listening to the cheesy love songs that my mum had playing.
I watched the outside world go about their daily chores while I was stuck moping inside the store. I was so caught up in my thoughts, I barely had time to register the fact that the store door burst open and an angry blonde female stormed into the store. She was holding Desmond and Quentin by the ears.
The blonde looked familiar. Sandra…Sophie…or something starting with 'S'.
Music was heavily pumping into my ears. I could see her mouth moving in rapid speed but I couldn't hear a word she was saying. My mind was still buzzing from all the movement. Rollercoasters and I never got on either. I closed my mouth which was hanging open. I watched her stop and take a breather.
I tugged the headphones out of my ears.
"Okay…what?" I asked dazed.
"Sorry China," she said taking a deep breath.
At least she knows your name!
"Which one of these buffoons bought me these gifts?" she asked. I picked up the chocolates and flowers that was on the counter. They were the ones that Desmond had picked out when he came in with Quentin.
So he had lied! He did have a girlfriend. But then another thought crossed my mind; why was Quentin there?
"Sally-" Desmond started. I knew her named started with an 'S'.
"Shut it!" she snapped giving him daggers for looks. I took a deep breath.
"It was him," I said. Sally's face lightened up. She laughed nervously.
"I'm sorry to have done this to you! He doesn't normally do this kind of thing so I just thought…never mind!" Sally said. She turned to her boyfriend and wrapped her arms around him.
"Wanna get out of here?" he asked. She nodded into his neck.
"Thanks," they both said in unison to me, she picked up the gifts and left the store. I let out the breath I was holding.
"You owe me Desmond."
"How did you know it was Quentin?" he asked.
"You owe me," I reiterated.
"We both had such stricken looks on our faces, I'm sure of it. How'd you know it wasn't me? Were you hoping it wasn't me?"
My heart fluttered a little.
"Oh don't be so arrogant. I know Sally remember? We all go to the same school. She raves on about Quentin in school. Obviously I knew it was him. Besides, you told me the other day you got those stuff for a friend, remember?"
It wasn't a complete lie. I mean I had heard Sally rave on about a boy, I just didn't know it was Quentin.
"Oh."
"Why? Were you hoping that I was hoping that it wasn't you?" I asked a smirk forming on my face. I giggled seeing him turn red.
"No!" he said with the same stricken look he had on before.
"Aw, sweet!" I said continuing to tease him.
"Whatever," he grumbled, putting his hands into his pockets. The redness in his cheeks were fading a little.
I rested my forearms on the counter.
"So, what are you still doing here?" I asked him. Desmond found this as an invitation to stay. He heaved himself over the counter and sat on it. His legs dangling next to me.
"I'm bored," he said shrugging.
"You bored? I thought you'd be out celebrating. I mean it's Valentine's Day!" I said sarcastically.
"So?" I stared at him blankly, a little confused. Desmond Dallis, high school hottie was dateless on Valentine's Day? That just didn't make sense. "What about you? What are your plans for today?" he asked me.
I snorted. "My plans? God. I hate Valentine's Day as much as I don't like working here. I love my mum and all but she just takes today a little too seriously. I mean, why should there be one specific day where you shower the one you love with gifts and flowers? Shouldn't you do that everyday? I mean if you love them and all, they should be worth it, right?" I asked finally looking at him. His eyes were smiling even though his lips weren't.
"Right," he said softly. "You're very right." A customer came into the store but we were unfazed by that. Our eyes were locked. His gaze dropped to my lips every now and again. Our faces inched forward. I leaned up and he leaned down. He put a hand on my cheek and our lips slightly grazed. I could feel his breath on my lips. My heart was pounding and my knees were shaking. I thought I was going to fall over with excitement.
Then, out of nowhere (well somewhere, obviously) the phone rang from the back. We jumped apart. Desmond nearly fell off the counter. I locked the till with shaky hands and started to go out back.
"I'm going to see who that is. You know the way out," I rushed out with a croaky voice. I quickly went to the back to pick up the phone, but it stopped ringing. I ran upstairs and leaned against the wall. I put my hands on my face. My heart was still pounding. I put a hand over my mouth as I thought about what was going to happen.
I walked to the window that faced the streets and saw Desmond walking to his car, his fingers on his lips.
He looked so dazed and cute I just couldn't help but grin.
.-_.x._.x._-.
That same evening, I was doing some stock checks and cleaning up a little. My mind was still buzzing from the sort-of kiss Desmond and I had. My heart did some stupid fluttery thing just thinking about it. I sighed and continued working.
The store was practically empty. My mum had gone out to sort out a delivery that should have been at the store a week ago. My mum was normally a very patient person, but during the themed weeks, she was a wreck about to explode.
I picked up a vase that was on display and was about to clean it.
"Boo!" a voice shouted from behind me. I jumped up two feet and dropped the vase.
That's ten pounds down the drain.
"Oh gosh I'm sorry!" a voice that sounded like Desmond's said. I slowly turned around.
"You stupid boy!" I shouted at him. Yeah, that was the best I could come up with; my heart was still pounding with shock. "I could've hit you with the vase, thinking that you were some freak trying to rob me!"
"Sorry!" he said sounding apologetic. He looked at the broken shards of glass on the floor. "Here let me pick that up."
"You idiot don't pick up the glass you're going to cu-" I started, but it was too late. There was blood oozing out of his new wound. "Come on lets get you fixed up."
"China, I'm fine, it doesn't hurt," he said through gritted teeth.
"Whatever macho man, I want to check to see if there's any glass in your cut. So move it." I took him by his sleeve and dragged him to the bathroom in the flat above the shop.
I dabbed some antiseptic onto his cut after I found no glass in it. I silently mouthed the words to 'If you're happy and you know it…' The miserable weather was depressing me and that was the only song that I could think of that would make me think about something other than the weather and the incident that happened earlier.
"Are you singing 'If you're happy and you know it'?" Desmond asked me smiling.
"Put those pearly whites away. It's a good, happy song!" I said defending myself.
"Yeah, right," he said smirking.
I put a plaster on his hand and leaned back to admire my handiwork. "There, all better."
"Aren't you going to kiss the booboo?" he asked in a child's voice. I laughed.
Kiss…
"Hell no," I said. "You were really stupid picking them up. Your mother has told you better than that!"
"Well I didn't want you to get hurt," he said softly. I froze a little. I turned back head to the side to find him looking at me weirdly. My heart did that stupid fluttery thing again.
"Right," I said clearing my throat. "How very superman of you." I pinched his cheeks and the moment that we had before passed.
"You're blushing!" I said. Desmond frowned.
"Am not!" he said.
"Are too!"
"Am not!"
"Are too!"
"Whatever!"
"Are t-don't whatever me!" I said.
"I just did!"
"Well don't!"
"I used to like playing with dollies," he burst out. He slapped a hand over his mouth the moment he realised what he had said. I clamped my mouth shut. The insides of my cheeks were puffed out and my shoulders were shaking. "Just let it out."
I burst out laughing. Tears formed in my eyes I was laughing so hard. I clutched my stomach and tried to gasp for air.
"How random can you get?" I asked after I calmed down.
"Pretty random. Tell me something about you."
"What?" I asked laughing nervously. He was sitting too close to me.
"You said a couple of days ago that you didn't know me that well. You then said I didn't know you that well. So, tell me something about you."
"What do you want to know?" I asked looking anywhere but him.
"Anything. Random, deep, profound, silly, doesn't matter. As long as it's about you."
"Um…well…" I stuttered. My heart was racing. I think it was the valentine's Day theme that had me all hot and flustered. "I like kissing," I blurted out.
Oh. My God. You stupid girl!
"What?" he asked darkly. A angry look fell upon his face. "You kiss random guys?"
"Oh no!" I rushed. "I like kissing. Well, I would if I had someone to kiss," I rambled on. I was about to go on about the locking of lips but a smile formed on his lips. He was no longer angry but amused, nervous and a little...happy?
He grinned properly this time and leaned in. I think we all know what happened after that…
The door burst open. Desmond and I flung apart. I moved so fast my head was a little dizzy.
"China I need you out there, a delivery just came in!" my mum said. She didn't even realise that Desmond and I were about to…kiss…again!
"Well I should go," I managed to say.
"Yeah, I've got to go too. Water the garden," he said. I didn't want to point out to him that it was raining. I quickly left the room. I kept my head down when I noticed Desmond walking out of the store. Our eyes linked for a second. Desmond cocked his head to the backroom and left. I frowned. I excused myself and went to the back room.
There, neatly perched on the table, was a box of chocolates and a card. My heart fluttered again.
I think I'm going to die young of a heart attack.
I picked up the card which had my name written on the outside. I recognised it to be Desmond's. He and I shared classes together to I could tell it was his. I opened the card and found a poem written by him in it.
'Roses are red, violets are blue, you hate Valentine's Day, and I do too.
I hope this isn't cheesy, because I know that'd make you queasy,
I'm in love with your smile and I have been for a while.
I'm hoping you understand I'm going to be a different man,
If that's what you want me to do, I'll do it for you.'
I nearly burst out crying. It was really cheesy like he had written, but beautiful nonetheless. I ran out of the store ignoring my mother's calls to unpack the goods. I ignored the fact that rain was pouring down on us. Desmond was leaning against his car grinning.
"Cheesy much?" I asked him, slowly walking towards him.
"Hey, everyone likes their cheese," he said shrugging. I laughed a little.
"It's raining and you just professed your love for me, how much cheesier can this get?"
Desmond just grinned but his eyes spoke wonders. I stood there for a moment, rain pouring on me and all, just waiting and thinking.
"I have a temper," I said seriously.
"I know," he said.
"I get really moody. Especially during that time."
"China, I don't care," he said. Most guys would be put of by the thought of 'that' time, but he wasn't.
"I'll expect chocolates everyday you know," I added with a smile. Desmond took my hands and threaded his fingers into mine.
"Wouldn't have it any other way," he said.
Then, finally, after about three years of waiting, he kissed me. Properly. He quickly flipped me over so I was pressed against his car door. His cologne was intoxicating. I put my hand on the back of his neck.
"Finally!" a voice exclaimed from behind us.
Did no one want us to kiss?
I turned bright red, something Des found amusing. "Do you know how long I've been waiting for that?" It was Anna under a bright yellow umbrella.
A happy colour.
"I mean seeing his godforsaken puppy dog face stare at you whenever you were near was just so annoying. I mean it was cute at first, but seriously after three years of it, you get bored!"
"What's she on about?" I asked him. Inside I was going crazy with joy. He had liked me for three years!
"Oh nothing," he mumbled.
"Aw, you're turning red," I teased.
"Right. No more chocolates for you," he said tapping my nose and continuing to his car.
My jaw was hanging.
"Now come on! That's not fair, we can bargain can't we? Please? Don't take my babies away from me!" I cried dramatically. I rested my forearms on the passenger side door where the window was rolled down.
I watched him rummage for something in the back seat. I grinned as he brought out a box of chocolates. My heart swelled.
"Chocolates too? How much more perfect can you get?" I asked, pretending to tear up.
"Oh you haven't seen a thing yet," he said winking. I grinned and got into the car.
We then drove into the sunset…
Okay, so we drove a little down the road before I forgot that I had to go back to work, but it was romantic nevertheless.
Really, it was.
Wendy's Wonders sure was a magical place, it was my Wonderland.
I hope this wasn't too long! I was just letting out frustrations. So tired from midnight revision! Don't ever do it. It's a killer.
The end sentence sounds kinda stupid, but it makes sense if you were to know me personally. So yeah, I'm not just writing insane nonsense.
I'm rubbish at rhyming so I'm sorry if the poem was a little toooo cheesy. :)
Anyway, hope you liked it! I know it's a tad bit possibly doesn't sound right at points, but like I said before, writing is my venting. =D
Thank you so much for all the lovely reviews I keep getting, I'm sorry if I haven't been replying to them lately. I've had this summary saved on Word for half a year and I've never done anything to it, until now. So I guess it took me about half a year to write this! Ha! ;)
Thanks for reading. Love,
Hopelessly Cliché
