Images of a Beautiful Summer
Friendly Hare
Majestic summer trees swirl around, obscuring the perfect crystals as they tinkle on merrily through the wind, imitating the sound of windchimes. The sweet caress of lemonade engulfs the neighborhood, as a lone boy sits patiently on top of a stool full of juicepowder. Several cars zoom quietly by, not knowing that they were being watched all of a sudden. As if on cue, a measly hare jumps out from a tree and hops through the urban jungle, stopping every know and then to sniff the fertile ground. The boy sees the rabbit, and sets down a tray of lemonade to lure the animal into his clutches. Birds twitter madly in the sky, as if to warn the rabbit of their presence. Nevertheless, the creature hops across the road, and sniffs the air eagerly. The bittersweet smell of tangerines, mangoes and lemons linger in the air particles surrounding its' nose.
The boy smiles. He moves the tray as if to encourage the hare to join him in his lemonade selling business venture. The longeared being thumps his thigh happily, and leaps, bounds and jumps haphazardly over to the dull-looking row of houses. The lemonade stand is the only bright thing on the avenue apparently, because the houses were urbanized and the city developers were too bored when they designed this area of the city. But it doesn't prevent the rabbit from taking a sip of lemonade. At first, the furry pink tongue darts out like a lizard, tasting the sugary water for poisons. The rabbit doesn't keel over, so it seemed to have deemed it suitable for its sensitive stomach. It laps the lemonade like a panting dog, spilling some of it onto the steamed, cracked concrete in its haste to have some more. The boy laughs contentedly, watching the furry little beast ravage the lemonade so willingly.
The sun watches patiently like an old grandmother, but alas, it cannot stay up so long. Soon, the day turns to dusk, and the boy looks around anxiously. It seems like no one in the urban dwellings wanted to come out on such a fine day. This isn't unusual, and the boy gives up on his foolish conquest for pocket money. He decides to pack up, leaving some more lemonade for his whiskery friend. As he enters his home, he gives a cheerful wave to the brown-eyed hare. The said creature lifts his ears in an almost comical gesture, signaling that it is almost time to say goodbye. The boy enters the house, lemonade stand in tow, as the seeds of summer enter the human dwelling, as if to remind him that summer won't fade away anytime soon.
