Deadly Love (Translation)

Chapter 19: Till Death do us Part

I stared at Antoinette, blood soaking her jacket and matting her hair. Instantly, there were several people crowding around them, both Blythe and Antoinette.

"What happened!" Scythe demanded, his voice rising in fury as he gazed down at Antoinette as Blythe set her down into a chair.

"We were," blood bubbled to Blythe's lips, "attacked by Empire Soldiers…sir." he coughed and blood spattered Scythe's immaculate white tuxedo.

"And why did you ask to marry her…?" Scythe roared.

"It was her wish. She is lifemate to me sir. Not much of a lifemate, but, still, she loved me…and I loved her." here he paused to spit on the grass, the red staining the green grass. "Sir, Mr. Palo, sir, I know that I am not much of a lifemate to your daughter…she's much stronger, much more outgoing, much more…everything. She's everything that I have tried to be, but could never be. She and I love one another though. She balances me and I balance her.

So, Mr. Palo, sir, we have come to ask your blessing…not your approval, but your blessing. It is Antoinette's last wish, sir. I hold onto her by a mere thread…I cannot for much longer, and I wish to enter the next world with her by my side…as my lifemate, and my wife."

Scythe looked down at his daughter as Jocolyn pushed her way forward and touched her daughters hair.

"Oh, dear God Scythe!" she cried as she cuddled Amê closer to her chest.

Antoinette stirred slightly and raised her hand. "Mother? Father?" she whispered, hardly able to form the words. I pushed closer and used my white dress to wipe off her lips (at the protest of Sarah).

"We're here Auntie." Jocolyn reached for her daughter's hand, but Antoinette grabbed Blythe's before she could reach. She choked back tears ad rubbed her hand over her eyes, squeezing her new daughter. "Auntie, look, you've got a sister! A new one!"

"What's going on?" a male voice cried, and a woman n a light blue dress shoved people out of the way, Ashley and Antonio behind her. "I hear my big sister was-Oh my God! Auntie!"

"Antoinette!" Ashley screamed.

"Ashley? Antonio? Sinta?" Antoinette asked quietly. She coughed and I felt tears burn my eyes. How could anyone be so cruel as to beat a girl to death? A teenager at that? She couldn't be much older than eighteen.

"Mother, Father, please let me marry Blythe…he is my light! He makes me love." Antoinette coughed, blood seeping past her lips.

"Okay Auntie." Scythe sighed, brushing her forehead with his hand. "I hope that you know what you are doing though. Like he said, he doesn't make much of a husband." he laughed lightly, then went stone cold. "Antoinette, I give you my blessing."

Blythe helped to stand her up and Antoinette struggled to stand upright without help.

"Auntie!" Sinta, I presume, cried helplessly as her sister pushed herself away from Blythe and staggered a bit before finding her balance. She held onto her side and spread her legs to keep her balance.

"M'fine." Antoinette said softly.

"Okay…" Jocolyn whispered. "Priest Anderson?" she called and the Priest made his way back to the alter as Scythe waked forward with Blythe by his side and Antoinette clinging to his arm.

From there, the service went well, 'Auntie' staggering only once in a while.

"Do you, Blythe Fortuna, take Antoinette Palo to be your lawfully wedded wife?" the Priest asked with his voice raised so that the crowd could hear. Jocolyn stood ringing her hands in her handkerchief.

"I do."

"And do you, Antoinette Palo, take Blythe Fortuna to be your lawfully wedded husband?"

Antoinette coughed and she wiped her mouth with her sleeve, leaving a trail of blood on her gray outfit.

She wasn't wearing a dress, they hadn't had time for her to change, so she wore the same bloodstained gray outfit that she had escaped wearing. The shirt was a light gray t-shirt with rips and tears in it and her jeans were a faded black, making them gray, and the knees were torn out, showing the cuts in her kneecaps

"I do." said hoarsely, blood still bubbling up to her lips and making a trail of fine red down her chin.

"Good. I now pronounce you Mr. and Mrs. Fortuna!" the Priest cried and the two bent their heads together to kiss. It was then, as Antoinette moved forward, that she fell, her knees hitting the stone altar.

"Auntie!" Blythe screamed as he dropped to his knees, clutching his head. "No! Not yet! Please." he whispered the last word and fell onto his back, his beautiful features twisted in pain.

I expected chaos, but when none came, all we did was stand there. Jayden grasped my hand and I squeezed his, tears pouring down my face.

"I love you Blythe." Antoinette whispered as she coughed up a load of blood and just before she fell next to him, landing on her back.

There was dead silence, followed shortly by the wail of Jocolyn and Sinta. Antonio turned into Ashley and cried. I felt bad for the family, but especially Sinta as she stood there alone, a small smile spread upon her lips. A sad smile, but a small smile nonetheless. It was a sad scene. One of the saddest I have ever seen.

Scythe stood from his seat and walked towards his daughter, his hands clutching a rosary as he moved forward. He stood on the altar and held his palm out for his wife.

"Jocolyn? Shall we say something now? He asked quietly.

Jocolyn shuffled forward and took Scythe's hand, her face tearstained, but she wasn't crying any longer.

"Today is a sad day for both the Palo and Fortuna families. The Palo's lost a loving daughter, the Fortuna's a loving son. I am sorry to say tat only Daine is here with us today, the only living relative of Blythe…and a sad day it must be for her to loose her only surviving brother, friend, and relative.

"It is a sad day for all of us, but I believe that this is what they wished…to die in the presence of so many family and friends.

"I never really told her how much I loved her, or how much I liked her chosen lifemate…it never really came up. I now bow my head before you all in disgrace. I beg that you forgive me now, else hold your peace."

There was silence and Scythe winced.

"I forgive you" It was Aaron. "For all your faults, you loved your daughter, daughters and son more than anything else in the world. For that, I forgive you."

"And us." said I, meaning Jayden and I.

More and more people gave their forgiveness until there was only Daine left. She shook her head.

"I will not make the same mistakes that you did. I will not make my heart break like you did. I will love Dylan's and mine child with all that I can. I will tell it that I love it everyday…and if I forgive you, that is only one step from forgiving myself for never getting Dylan to love this child too. Because of him I learned the hard way not to trust not only him, but everyone. It is weakness in his eyes. Though, my heart cannot possibly break when it was never whole to start with." she swept away her long blonde hair rising with the wind.

She paused beside Dylan, but did not stop to say anything. Instead, she continued walking after a simple glance, her long hair silver in the moonlight, giving her an exotic look. All except Dylan turned to watch her leave.

Jayden bowed his head as Dylan stood. "I cannot forgive myself Jayden…but I cannot be attached to someone when I could die in the next three days. Go away. We will keep anyone from leaving. No one will be subjected to the Empire's cruelty ever again. Just go."

Jayden grabbed a hold of my hand once more and dragged me from the seat we were in. I looked back in time to see Scythe pick up his daughter and carry her in the way a father holds his daughter. No one carried Blythe, but two men soon came to pick him up.

This was indeed a sad day. I remembered our vows…
