My name is Melissa, I am 21 years old, and this is my story. It was September 4, the day it all started. I thought it would be just like any other Friday night as a college student. I was a senior this year at SUNY Binghamton, and I promised myself at the beginning of the year, that I would make this year special... and it most definitely was.

"What about this?" I asked my roommate who happened to be one of my best friends.

Her eyes widened. "He will be head over heels for you if you where that tonight!" Allie replied, tossing her light brown hair over her shoulder.

Allie and I have been best friends since kindergarten. I can still remember the first day we met like it had just happened yesterday...

"Mmm! These flowers smell so yummy!" I said at rec. as I smelled the honeysuckle flowers that had grown onto the fence of someone's house next to the school yard.

"I know! They smell just like my grandma!" Allie said, as she sniffed the flowers next to me.

"I have a grandma too!" I said, turning to Allie.

"Of course silly! Everybody has a grandma!" She said turning to me also.

"Really?"

"Yeah!"

"My grandma's name is Alice," I said, sniffing the flowers. "She doesn't smell like the flowers." I said.

"My grandma's name is Joan. When we go to her house I always smell the flowers on her cloths. Mom says it's because she washes them with this soapy stuff. I forget the name," she said, referring to laundry detergent.

"That is so cool!" I wish my grandma smelled this good!"

I laughed as I remembered our first encounter.

"What?" Allie asked, her light brown eyes confused.

"Nothing, I was just thinking about how good your grandma smells," I said, turning back around. She knew exactly what I was talking about, and laughed too.

After sophomore year, we rented an apartment right off of campus and still live there together.

I took the shirt off the hanger and tossed it on my bed.

"Should I straighten my hair, or go au-naturale?" I asked, bouncing one of my dark brown, practically black curls.

"Hmm... that depends. If you're going to be dancing all night, then leave it curly. It'll only get messed up quickly if you straighten it," she said without looking up from the mirror where she was applying a thick line of eyeliner to her left eyelid.

"Curly it is," I said, as I grabbed my towel and hairbrush and went to the bathroom. I closed the door and began to take my clothes off. It was only noon, so I had more than enough time to get ready. I really wanted to impress this guy that I've liked since junior year. His name was Kevin and I had invited him to hangout tonight with me, Allie, and our other best friend, Rob.

Rob and I have known each other since conception. His mom and my mom have even been best friends since they were born... so I guess it was our grandparents that were best friends first. Everyone always thought me and Rob would get married or something, but it was NEVER like that. Rob was literally my brother from another mother. I told him EVERYTHING... every single thing, even the girl stuff. He was actually the first person I told when I got my period for the first time. I didn't tell my mom until the 3rd time I had it. I'm not gonna lie, I've thought about me and Rob dating plenty of times. I mean, we were obviously super compatible and he was very attractive with his dark hair and eyes, but every time I thought about us together as a couple rather than friends, I just didn't feel the 'sparks' about it. He was just the epitome of my best friend.

When I met Allie in kindergarten, I of course introduced her to Rob, and it was the 3 of us since then. In 6th grade, we met Allison. She was Peruvian, with very dark hair, eyes, and skin. It was very confusing, having two 'Allison's' in the group, but we called 'Allie' Allie and 'Allison' Allison. In 9th grade, the four of us began calling ourselves "The Crew" as a way to refer to all four of us at once. Since 6th grade, we've been inseparable, but I of course had always been closest to Rob.

Since 9th grade, me and Rob especially had dreamed of moving into an apartment together, The Crew that is, and all going to school in the city. I would go to NYU, Rob to Columbia, Allie to the Culinary Institute of America, and Allison to Cooper Union. Of course we all thought ourselves as excellent students. We took as many AP classes as possible, doubled up on electives and opted out of lunch, and we all had GPA's in the high 90's, but it wasn't good enough for all of us to get into the school of our dreams and be able to afford it.

Fortunately, Allison was the one of us that could. She got into Cooper Union with a full scholarship, and although our dream of going together and living in the city had died, we completely encouraged her to go and follow her dream. We would all be home for the holidays and summers, and we had at least all decided to stay in New York, so it would be easy enough to visit every few weeks.

I turned the water on and waited for it to get hot. I wanted to take things slow with Kevin. I could very easily have sex with him tonight if I wanted to. I know how to make guys want me, but I didn't want that. I was getting older, and I really wanted to settle down soon. I didn't just want to have one night stands and friends with benefits for the rest of my life.

I got into the shower and relaxed as the hot water moistened my skin. I grabbed my hair brush and brushed through my wet hair until it was smooth. I poured more than a quarter sized of 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner into my hand and massaged into my scalp and hair. After I had shaved every inch of my body and washed, rinsed, and repeated, I turned the water off and grabbed my towel. I threw it around my hair first as I brushed my teeth. I swished some cold water in my mouth and took the towel from my hair and wrapped it around my body so it would stay on without me holding it. I tossed some leave-in conditioner and curling moose into my wet hair and left the steamy bathroom.

"Rob called," Allie said, turning from her laptop. "He might be a little late, he has to drop Sophia off at the airport," she said as she typed away.

"Ok, that's fine," I said. Sophia is Rob's girlfriend. They've been going out for almost 3 years now, and he's going to ask her to marry him soon. He wants to wait until after college though. He's in love with her, you can tell just by looking at him when he describes her. I couldn't be happier for him and Sophia. She's such a nice girl. She has long blond hair and fierce gray eyes, but you couldn't meet a more caring person if you tried.

I threw on a pair of sweats and a tank top. "I'm going to get my eyebrows done, you coming?" I asked Allie.

"Uhm... sure I haven't gotten mine done in a few weeks," she said and we left for the nail salon.

It was almost 7, and Rob was minutes away. We had originally planned to meet at the club at 7, but I called Kevin and told him Rob was running late and we'd be there closer to 7:30.

"So, I look okay?" I asked for the millionth time in 10 minutes.

"Melissa- you look amazing, now shut up!" Allie said smiling as she grabbed her purse.

"Sorry, sorry, I'm just really nervous. It's my first date with him and I really, really like him. I don't want anything to go wrong."

"Nothing will go wrong," Allie assured me. I had actually met Kevin through Allie. They had become really, really close at the end of junior year and she had told him about me. At a party he had to celebrate the end of finals, he told Allie to invite me, so he obviously had wanted to meet me. As soon as I saw him, I felt explosions in my stomach and I knew that we would be more than just acquaintances. Over the summer and the past few weeks of this year, we had become really close, but no moves were ever made toward more than just friends. Tonight, that would change. I had a plan to make him super jealous, and I just hoped that it worked.

The door knob turned and Rob came in all flustered.

"Sorry I'm late," he said, straightening his shirt.

"Thanks for knocking! What if we weren't dressed or something!" Allie said laughing.

Rob raised his eyebrows.

"Are you kidding? I knew Melissa was dressed 2 hours ago, asking you how she looks a billion times, and completely ready to go before you even got dressed," Rob said laughing. I narrowed my eyes at him but couldn't hold it for long. I laughed too... he knew me way too much.

"Ok Rob, so I have this master plan to make Kevin extremely jealous, but it involves you,"

"What have you got planned this time?" he asked smiling. I smiled back.

"I need you to pretend we're dating, so I can play hard to get," I said.

He laughed.

"Are you going to help me or not?" I asked.

"Yeah, yeah, sure." he said. "Besides, I'm a pro at this by now," he said recalling the many times I made him pretend to be my boyfriend.

"Thank-you," I said seriously as I grabbed my bag from the counter.

"Ok, so are you ready?" he asked, like he didn't already know the answer.

"Yup, let's go!"

When we got to the club, I scanned the room for Kevin, but I he wasn't there yet. We ordered drinks and brought them back to the lounge.

"I can't even breathe," I said loudly over the thumping music.

"Chill out, it's only a date," Rob said, punching my shoulder lightly.

"'It's only a date'" I mimicked him in an obnoxious voice. "Weren't you nervous on your first date with Sophia?" I asked.

"Well, yeah of course, but that's different. I'm actually dating her," he said.

"Shut up! I want to date Kevin!" I said, getting aggravated. I raised his eyebrows at me. "I really do! When was the last time I had a real relationship?" I asked him.

He thought for a minute.

"Uhm... never?" he said in a joking voice, but he was right. Since my very first date in 9th grade, I never really cared. It was just a game, but I wanted to finally win.

"Kevin just walked in," Allie said loudly.

I shot up straight and fixed my hair quickly.

"You look great, now go say hi to him!" Rob said, pushing me out of my seat. I sighed and pulled down my shirt.

"Hey!" I said, greeting him with a smile.

"Hey, you look great!" he said, smiling back at me. I bit my lip. His bright blue eyes sparkled with all the flashing lights. He looked – perfect. He was wearing the nicest dark destroyed pair of jeans I had ever seen and a black tee shirt that made him look even more in shape than he was. He was wearing the pair of tan cloth flip flops I had bought him over the summer and his medium length brown hair fell over his eyes like the first time I ever saw him, and it took my breath away.

"So do you," I said, fluttering my dark brown eyes just a little bit. "Come, we bought you a drink," I said as we made our way to the bar.

I sat on the seat next to Rob and Kevin and Allie sat across from us on the soft red couches.

"Alright, but only one. I'm designated driver tonight, remember?" he asked.

"I remember," I said smiling. I snapped out of it. I had to stop flirting with him, I was trying to play hard to get and doing a terrible job so far.

"Cheers!" I said, raising my shot glass as everyone else did too. We clanked them together and put them down at the same time.

We all started talking and I grabbed Rob's hand at some point. After a few minutes, Kevin had realized and seemed to have gotten nervous. Kevin knew that Rob and I have been best friends since forever, and it must have surprised him that we were 'dating'. What he didn't know was that Rob wasn't really single, because then this plan never would have even been an option.

I remember from highschool from superlatives that both Rob and I were 'destined for Broadway' because since 7th grade we had always been the lead roles, so we were pro's at acting, but for some reason, I just couldn't get it together tonight. From the 11th grade musical when we did 'Once on This Island', there was a very awkward kissing scene between Rob and I. After that musical, we never felt awkward kissing each other, even though we both dating people at the time.

After 3 more shots, I was beginning to feel very good about myself. After we had danced for about an hour straight, Rob, Allie, and myself bought more drinks and the four of us sat back down in the same order.

I immediately grabbed Rob's hand. Allie had brought up something to only Kevin, but I could tell he was watching us from the corner of his eye. I smiled and leaned over to kiss Rob on the lips quickly. Rob had had a few more drinks than I had, so I guess he really didn't know what was happening. I went to pull away, only trying to make Kevin a little jealous, but Rob pulled me back and kept kissing me. After a few minutes, Allie began to worry a little and she tapped me on the shoulder hard. I turned around to her and she whispered in my ear.

"Melissa, you're only trying to make Kevin jealous, remember? Rob would kill you if he wasn't completely wasted and knew what he was doing," she sat back down. I shook my head, hearing only every 4 words she had said and chugged down my drink in seconds.

I grabbed Rob's hand and we headed to the dance floor. Allie and Kevin followed. We managed to have separated from them and we headed outside for some air. I felt very queasy and needed to get away from the throbbing music. Rob followed me, probably feeling exactly the same. We sat on a bench outside, and for all we knew at that point, we were the king and queen of England.

I leaned in closer to him and we made out for a few minutes.

I let go and laughed for no reason.

"So are you from around this town?" Rob barely managed to say.

"I don't even know who I am," I said smiling and kissed him again.

It was almost 11 and I was tired of dancing. After a few minutes, I got up quickly.

"Let's go back to my place," I said, as I tripped over the air, but caught myself against the wall.

He laughed.

We somehow managed to walk back and find our way to mine and Allie's apartment, it was only 6 blocks away.

This was the first time that Rob and I have ever been completely smashed together. It was usually me or him that was the designated driver or we just didn't drink too much, but we did tonight.

He put his arms around me, as we made out against the wall, and he slowly moved his hands down.

I let go for a second and threw my hands over my head, throwing my shirt to the ground. He grabbed me tighter and kissed my neck. He lifted me off my feet and threw me onto my bed. I ripped his shirt off as he kissed my stomach. He unbuttoned his pants and tossed them on the floor and I did the same.

"You're the most beautiful woman I've ever met," he mumbled through his breath. I threw my arms around his neck and ran my fingers through his hair as he began to fidget with my bra. He unclasped it, and tore it off me faster than I thought he could and I slid my panties off. He kissed my lips, my chin, my neck, my chest, my stomach as I removed his boxers.

I reached over to my night stand and opened the draw. I ripped off a condom and handed it to him. He took it and threw it on the floor.

"I thought you were going to be the designated driver?" Allie said, as she and Kevin walked into the apartment around 2. Kevin had apparently had a lot more to drink once Rob and I had left.

"I forgot," he managed to say. Allie, who was the most sober of all of us, had walked home with Kevin because neither of them could drive.

"We'll get your car in the morning," she said to him. "You can sleep on the couch tonight," Allie said, flicking the lights on.

"I have to piss so bad," Kevin said.

"Oh, the bathrooms on the left," Allie said, pointing.

"Great," he said, as he practically sprinted there.

Allie began to walk over to the closet to get a blanket for Kevin, but stopped. She slowly walked over to the foot of my bedroom door and picked up my shirt from the ground. She gasped and looked at my door. She quickly threw my shirt into her hamper before Kevin saw, and grabbed a blanket from the top of the closet.

Kevin came out and walked over to the couch.

"So, uh, goodnight!" Allie said, giving Kevin the blanket and running into her room.

Allie whipped out her phone and texted me. My phone was on vibrate on my night stand, but I was knocked out and never heard it.

"He's going to kill her," Allie whispered.

I woke up around 11am pressed against a warm body and tight arms around my waist. I opened my eyes to the blinding light coming through the window and I went to get up, but the searing pain in my head threw me back down.

Holy fucking shit.

I turned around to see my naked best friend next to me with my naked self in his arms. Now, I really couldn't breathe. I calmed myself and very, very carefully, removed his arms from my waist, and slipped away from his grasp. I tore open my dressed and threw on the first sweat pants and tee shirt I found. I ran to the door, and quickly and quietly opened and closed the door behind me.

My head felt like it was going to explode. A million, billion thoughts ran through my head and I had the worst hangover ever. My problems grew 3 times their size when I saw Kevin asleep on my couch. I had to stop myself from screaming.

I ran across the living and threw open Allie's door. I closed it softly and jumped on her bed. She shot up and looked around.

"Holy shit, you scared the crap out of me!" She said, rubbing her eyes and yawning.

"Allie, please kill me now," I said as the tears came pouring from my eyes.

"What?" she asked, furrowing her eyebrows. Memories of last night scanned through her mind as her eyes grew and her jaw dropped.

She looked back up at me.

"I- I found your shirt on the floor last night, but I just threw it in the hamper, she said, looking quickly at the hamper and back into my eyes. They suddenly grew very angry. "Melissa! I warned you last night, I told you to lay off and take it down a few notches, but you completely blew me off didn't you? You didn't hear a word I said! Do you know how angry Rob will be? Do you even realize what you did? He wants to marry Sophia, don't you get it?" she screamed at me, but not loud enough to wake anyone.

I couldn't stop crying, and after a few minutes, Allie had calmed down and she put her arms around me.

"Please just kill me," I whispered into her ear. She sighed.

"Stop," she said quickly. "Come on, go take a shower, and I'll try to figure out a way to get you out of this," she said, getting up and pushing me out of the room.

I trusted her. She always knew what she was doing.

I took a quick shower and tossed my sweats back on. I went back into her room and she was on the phone.

"I'll see you soon," she said, hanging up.

"Who was that?" I asked quickly.

"Allison. I told her she needed to get here, today. I didn't tell her why, that's your job, but she'll be here in about 4 hours."

"How is she getting here?"

"Train,"

I sighed and wiped a tear from my eye, but more kept coming.

"He's going to hate me," I cried as I plopped onto Allie's bed.

"No he's not. You've been friends for so long," she assured me.

"Yeah, but last night we weren't friends. I didn't even know who he was." I sniffled. "I crossed a huge line and he is going to hate me forever," I said softly.

Allie sighed, because she really didn't know if he would ever talk to me again or not.
