"Maybe I should go visit him." Aidan said as he paced in Viktor's office. "It could bring some closure. I never did say good bye."
"Would it be wise? It would bring back many emotions, along with the memories of what happened."
"What do I do then? I see him everywhere. I cant get a buzz without thinking everyman with a similar build is him." Aidan sat down with a sigh.
"Perhaps it would be for the best if you went to visit him. You were in vulnerable time in your life. On top of the normal teenage angst you were put in an impossible position. Travis was a protector for you. He was the only person you felt connected too. You built him up to be this wonderful person. He had no, or little, faults in your eyes. You should go back Aidan, and you will see this man for what he is, and maybe, hopefully, you will no longer have this affixation on him. You wont see a guardian or protector when looking at him, but you will see what he truly is."
"Which is?"
"A criminal." Aidan stared at him. "A rapist and murderer."
"He never raped anyone." Aidan said softly, and Viktor looked at him knowingly, but said nothing.
"I don't know his last name. Just check for Travis's." Aidan told the guard. "I need to see him."
"Look. I cant help you, unless you know his full name." The guard said for the millionth time. Aidan sighed but decided to give up. It was pointless, why did he even think he could get in to see him without knowing his name! Aidan when to walk out when he heard a voice from behind him.
"Whose looking for Travis?" Aidan turned around and his stomach plummeted to his feet. His mouth went dry when he looked at the speaker and he consciously kept his hands from shaking.
"I am."
"Aidan?" The man said shocked. "I haven't seen you for what? Five years?"
"Yea, bout that."
"Well, I'll be damned." Trevor reached out and shook Aidan's hand roughly.
"Can you bring me to Travis?" He asked coldly.
"Miss his cock that much?" He laughed, Aidan didn't. "I'd help you if I could, really I would but he's gone."
"What do you mean gone?" Aidan snapped.
"He was released two months ago." Trevor answered. Aidan stiffened but only nodded slowly. Trevor stepped closer to him. He brought his hand up and brushed some of Aidan's hair to the side. "I have a few minutes before my shift. Wanna go out back?" Aidan slapped his hand away.
"No." He shouted and went to leave.
"Guess the little bitch act was show then?" He called. "Travis never cared about you. You were a pretty face and a good fuck. Nothing more!" Aidan slammed through the door leading to the street and walked over to his car. He pulled his keys out of his jeans pocket and started the car before pulling away quickly.
He had wanted to see Travis. He wanted Viktor to have been right. He wanted to see Travis for what he was. A murderer, and a rapist. He had raped him. At least that's what Viktor kept saying. He wasn't a sweet, caring, strong, and protecting lover.
He drove his mustang through the streets driving to his apartment. He needed a shower. He felt uncomfortable and dirty in his own skin. He barged into the apartment and passed Chris who was on the couch with his arm around a girl.
"You see him?" He called and Aidan slammed the bathroom door shut. He ripped his clothes off and jumped into the shower before the water had a chance to heat up. He heard a soft knock on the door.
"You ok man?"
"He got out." Aidan told him and he heard movement behind the door, before he walked away.
Aidan walked out of his room and one hour later, his hair still wet from the shower. He had on his black pants, crisp white shirt, and black vest.
"I'm heading out to work Chris." He said and started for the door.
"Peace brother." Chris told him and watched him with concerned eyes.
"Aidan I would like to put you up for a promotion."
"Thank you sir!" Aidan said, smiling for the first time since his encounter with the stranger on the street.
"I will be watching you very closely tonight. If you do well, I want to make you general manager." Aidan's heart lifted at the words. That was a two dollar pay raise! Not only that, but he wouldn't be waiting tables, but over seeing the waiters, scheduling parties, and reservations and dictating who worked when and what hours.
"Yes sir. Thank you sir." He said nodding to much.
"Ok. Get to work."
The night went well. Aidan laughed and got along with the people at his tables and got quite a few tips. He flirted with all the girls and even got a few numbers, which brought a bright pink blush to his face. It was around ten o'clock when Aidan went to table number seventeen. He was looking down at his notebook when he walked over and he noticed Mr. Botocelli was close behind observing him.
"Hello, my name is Aidan I'll be waiting on you this evening." Aidan said and looked up with his usual smile on his face. Aidan looked up and immediately bit down on his tongue, causing a stinging pain to fill his mouth. "Can I he-can I-What would-Would you like something to drink?" He asked and watched the all to familiar smug smile spread across the man's handsome features. He had missed that smug smile.
"What do you have?" The deep voice asked and he recognized it from last night. His voice was flirtatious and he clearly enjoyed Aidan's shock and discomfort.
"Orange soda, coke, mountain dew, milk, chocolate milk," Aidan listed off. "We also have beer, we have-"
"I don't drink."
"Oh."
"Coke."
Aidan mumbled and the two stared at each other. Aidan heard a cough from behind him and looked to see Botocelli urging him on. "I'll be right back with that." Aidan said and turned around and walked away quickly. He got into the kitchens and went straight to the bathroom.
Leaning forward towards the sink he splashed cold water into his face. This wasn't happening. It couldn't be. He held onto the sink to steady himself and tried to contain his breathing.
"Pull yourself together Aidan." He whispered. He looked into the mirror and watched the water drip off of his nose.
He dried himself off and left the bathroom. His hair one the sides near his face stuck to his skin. He had orders to fill. He brought meals to all his other tables before going back to the table of his former lover. He brought the drink over and placed it in front Travis.
"Thank you." He said huskily and Aidan felt himself begin to tremble.
"Are you ready to order?" He said, trying to keep from freaking out with his boss watching him.
"Spaghetti and meatballs." He said and leaned back in his chair. He ran his eyes over Aidan's body, from his head to his toes and Aidan's face turned bright red. Aidan began to write it down and his hands shook so bad he could barely read his writing. Aidan looked up, not knowing what to do in this situation. "When are you off?"
"Twelve…two hours." Aidan swallowed and tried to keep from shaking.
"I'll wait."
"Ok." He breathed out and lingered on Travis a bit longer and nodded at him. He then turned and quickly walked away. He brought the food around to the other diners and had a fake smile plastered to his face the whole time. He couldn't get over seeing him here. How'd he find him? New York was a big state…how did Travis just happen to wonder into the same town as him, into the restaurant he worked in, on his shift, on his table zone?
He brought the plate of spaghetti and meatballs to Travis and waited for him to taste it.
"How is it?" He asked and saw Botocelli look over at him from the front of the store. A smile was immediately on his face as he looked at Travis, who saw through the fake smile.
"Very good." He said.
"Travis…"
"We'll talk when you get off." He said in a voice that calmed Aidan down.
"You look different." Aidan said and turned to walk away. Travis stayed at his table all night watching Aidan. Finally at twelve, Aidan could lock up the restaurant. He began stacking stairs as the last of the diners began to leave. He saw Travis rise and pull out a cigarette package from his coat. He looked at Aidan and motioned with his head outside, and raised the pack up slightly. Aidan nodded and went back to the chairs.
Botocelli intercepted Aidan at the door.
"You did quite well." He said. "I am giving you the promotion. You will start in one week." He said and Aidan nodded.
"Thank you sir." He said and looked around him towards the door, catching sight of Travis. When Botocelli finally shut up Aidan made his way outside to meet Travis.
He was leaning against the wall a cigarette in his mouth. Aidan went up to him and pulled it from him mouth before throwing it down to the ground and stamping it out.
"No smoking in front of the store." Travis stared at him a moment, before reaching back into his coat. He pulled out another cigarette, lit it, and looked to Aidan. "How'd you find me?"
"Magic." Travis said raising his hands as if he did a trick.
"Really."
"I have friends." Was all he said. "Let's go to my apartment." Travis said and Aidan felt his penis stir. Travis moved from the wall and straightened up. "We have a lot to talk about."
"It was you last night?" Aidan asked and walked next to Travis, his hands in his pockets.
"Last night?" He asked and Aidan felt himself get sick. He slept with a man who wasn't Travis. But he thought it was Travis. So it's ok then right?
"Wait, you didn't see me last night?" Aidan asked, his anxiety rising.
"No, what happened last night?" Travis asked, and it looked like he was getting angry.
"Nothing." Aidan said quickly and looked fearfully at Travis. Travis stared at him a moment before he broke out in laughter.
"Of course it was me." Travis laughed.
"That's not funny." Aidan snapped.
"Yeah it was. Shoulda seen your face." Travis said. Aidan couldn't help but feel relieved. "I felt bad, with you being so wasted, but I could hardly resist." Travis stopped walking and Aidan stopped with him.
"What are we doing?"
"Getting the bus." Travis said and got another cigarette out.
"Stop smoking." Aidan said and stood in front of him awkwardly. Travis threw the cigarette on the ground and placed his foot over it. "You, uh, got out on parole?"
"Sure did."
"You look thinner." Aidan said and Travis just smiled at him softly.
"Stopped working out so much. Lost some weight. All muscle." He looked at Aidan slyly for a moment. "Still look good though. Wouldn't you say?" He asked and raised his shirt up to his mid chest, showing off a less defined, but just has attractive six pack. Aidan stared at his stomach and bit his lip. "I missed you Aidan." He said and stepped up closer to him.
Aidan closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Just as he opened his mouth the speak he heard the bus pull up and Aidan stepped away from him. Travis turned his back on Aidan and walked up the bus steps, Aidan close behind.
Travis instructed Aidan to slide into the seat first and he obeyed. "there are other seats…we didn't need to be in the back." Travis slid in next to him, pressing Aidan closer into the side of the bus.
"I like the back." Travis said and his hand glided over Aidan's crotch. "Do you remember last night?" He asked, close to his ear.
"N-not really." Aidan whispered and felt Travis pulled at his belt.
"You begged me Aidan." He whispered throatily. "You said my name, again, and again, and again." He said and slid his hand into Aidan's underwear.
"Travis stop." Aidan said and looked around the bus. No one seemed to know anything was going on between the two men in the corner. "People will see."
"You think I care. Five years Aidan. I've waited five years." Aidan could see where this was going. He reached up and pulled on the cord, stopping the bus. He fastened his pants and hopped over Travis. He ran down the stairs and heard Travis follow.
"What are you doing?" Travis yelled as Aidan walked down the street in the direction of his car.
"I'm not in prison anymore Travis! You cant control me anymore." He yelled and he heard Travis following close behind.
"Aidan." Travis said exasperated. Aidan turned around with tears in his eyes still walking down the street, backwards.
"You know, I didn't want this! I didn't want you to find me! I thought I did when I left prison, because I thought I cared about you." He widened his eyes trying to keep tears from slipping free and looked up. "I thought of you as something better than what you are because you were all I had. But I don't need you now! I have a friend, a real friend! I have a job, I'm going to school, I get along with my parents. I'm happy! Then you come back into my life, uninvited and mess everything up! You only want me because I give you control. That's what my therapist said and it's true. Well you cant control me. So you can leave me alone now. I wont be your bitch anymore!" He said and tears finally broke free.
Travis stepped up to Aidan who had stopped retreated and held his face in his hands, his shaking shoulder proof of his silent sobs. "Aidan." Travis whispered and wrapped his arms around the boy.
"I cant be with you Travis. It was only supposed to be while I was in prison. I'm not gay. I am attracted to woman. I really am."
"I believe you."
"But I cant keep myself from wanting you. I have to much respect for myself to just let you have your way with me whenever you want, and have you sleeping with other men on the side. I wont do it." He said and looked up at Travis.
"It wont be like that." Travis tried to tell him but Aidan was squirming out of his arms.
"I have to go." Aidan's eyes were swollen.
"Aidan come home with me." Aidan shook his head.
"You messed everything up." He said and wanted to desperately to go to him. He had longed to see him for five years and finally he was standing right in front of him. He was a thinner, cleaner, better spoken Travis, but Travis none the less. He couldn't be with him though. How would he explain it to his parents, how would he explain it to everyone. What would people say? Seeing him walking hand in and hand with a man? "I was supposed to see you today. In prison. I went looking for you. You were supposed to be a bum, a creep, a criminal. You weren't supposed to show up like this. Handsome, sweet, kind."
Travis could see the obvious distress and pain in his face. "Now, I don't know what to do." Aidan whispered.
"We need to talk Aidan-"
"No. No, leave me alone. Don't come near me. I mean it. I'm done with you. Done. OK? If you ever felt anything for me, you will leave me alone." Travis said nothing and watched Aidan turn and walk away, his head down. Travis watched helplessly as he walked away.
Travis turned to leave his heart heavy. He kicked at stones and began walking back to the bus. This wasn't how it was supposed to be. It didn't happen like this when he imagined it. He'd give Aidan a few days. It was a bit of a shock for Aidan, hell it had been a shock for him. He sat down on the bench, letting out a deep sigh. It would be at least an hour till the next bus came, and he didn't feel like walking the ten miles to his apartment. He pulled a cigarette from the pack and looked at it a moment, contemplating smoking it. He rolled it in his fingers a moment, and pictured Aidan's face. Sighing loudly, for the second time, he threw it onto the ground.
"Travis?" He heard the trembling voice behind him. Travis turned his head and saw Aidan fiddling with his hands in front of him. "I-" He started but Travis didn't want Aidan to shame himself by crying. Well…crying more.
"Shh." Travis said and beckoned him over with his fingers. "Come here." He said and Aidan sat down next to him on the bench. He slid in close to Travis.
"I do want to see you again." Aidan said. "I just…don't want to have sex…right now." Travis wrapped an arm around Aidan and pulled him closer. Even with less muscle, he still towered over Aidan's small form.
"That's ok." He murmured. "We do need to talk though Aidan."
"I know. And we will." Aidan rested his head on Travis's shoulder and closed his eyes. He felt the security and safety he felt while in prison come back for the first time.
"Come home with me." Travis said and Aidan's eyes popped open. He began to try to move away again but Travis held him. "Aidan."
"We aren't in prison anymore. You cant tell me what to do." Aida told him. "I'm going to my home." He told him and Travis nodded. "We can go to lunch and talk if you want, but I don't want to be alone with you."
"You're afraid I'd force you?" Travis asked, his voice not betraying his hurt.
"I'm afraid I'd like it." Aidan whispered. He leaned forward, refusing to make eye contact with Travis.
"We will meet tomorrow, for lunch." Travis said and Aidan nodded, ignoring the fact that he was being ordered, not asked.
"Where."
"Why not your work?"
"I don't want to be seen with you there." Aidan immediately bit his tongue and looked at Travis. "I didn't mean that the way it sounded. I just meant, you know you being a man-"
"Either way you explain it Aidan., it is just as insulting." Travis said coldly and Aidan bit down on the inside of his cheek.
"Where do you want to meet?" Aidan asked, thinking giving Travis more control would calm him down.
"You know the deli on center street?" Aidan nodded. "There. Three o'clock."
"Three thirty?" Aidan asked and Travis looked at him sharply. "I have a shift. I just got a promotion, I cant not show up or he'll give it to someone else."
"Three thirty then." Aidan stood and looked at Travis nervously.
"I'm going to go home." He said and Travis stood with him.
"I'll walk you to your car."
When they got to the car Aidan pulled out his keys and looked at Travis, not sure what to do.
"Nice car." Travis said, admiring the fresh red and black paint.
"My parents got it for me when I got out of prison." He said
"You know, if I hadn't fucked you so many times I'd hate you." Travis laughed, running a finger over the shiny paint. "Dam rich boys." he mumbled and Aidan looked down at his feet.
Aidan went to open the door but Travis slammed it shut and pressed him into the side of the car and grabbed onto the back of his neck. "Kiss me." He breathed close to his face.
"Travis I-" Travis's hand tightened on the back of his check.
"It wasn't a question Aidan." He said and waited for Aidan to press his lips to his. He finally did, realizing that Travis expected him to make the move, Travis wasn't going to do it. When Travis pulled back he had his smug smile on his face.
"Do you want me to drive you home?" Aidan asked feeling guilty about leaving him there.
"No. I'll catch the bus." Travis said and placed his palm tenderly to Aidan's tear streaked face. "You just go home and get some rest ok." He said and Aidan smiled at him and nodded. Travis stepped back and let Aidan get into the car. "Don't forget tomorrow Aidan." Travis said and Aidan nodded before pulling away, with shaking hands.
