It's Halloween, It's Halloween!
The moon is full and bright,
and we shall see what can't be seen on any other night.
Skeletons and ghosts and ghouls.
Grinning goblins fighting duels.
Werewolves rising from their tombs.
Witches on their magic brooms.
In masks and gown, we haunt the street.
And knock on doors for trick or treat.
Tonight we are the king and queen,
For, oh, tonight, it's Halloween!
-Jack Prelutsky.
I had to read Jack Prelutsky's poem in high school. I fucking hated it. Halloween? Like, for real? All Hallow's Eve is just about the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. Supernatural stuff, that shit doesn't exist, right? Witches, werewolves, vampires, ghouls, goblins, ghosts-it's all fake. All of it is made up by authors and all those people who want to earn money by writing something they think is interesting.
I've always hated Halloween.
I never enjoyed trick or treating. At the age of two, I was forced to dress up as a fireman(firewoman?) and it kind of really sucked. Yes, at the age of two, I hated Halloween. Ghosts frightened me. Witches were ugly to me(they still are, except that one from Wizard of Oz). At the age of four, my mother forced me to dress up as Cinderella. For the love of Christ, I hate Cinderella! Fairy tales... yeah, they're another thing I can't stand, but I'd choose them over supernatural shit any day. At age sick, I was forced to dress as the Wicked Witch of the West. I scared all the little kiddies(I was an evil six year old) and told them Halloween sucked. My mom quit taking me trick or treating after that, leaving the job to my older brother. He gave up when I turned twelve and dressed up as a softball player. Let's just say, I gave him a huge bump on the forehead for telling me ghouls are real(I used my bat, lol). Needless to say, he never took me trick or treating again. That was the end of our little Halloween fiasco.
Every year for Halloween, my brother would take out our little sister, who was born when I was twelve, and I'd stay home, forced to hand out the candy and all that good stuff. I enjoyed seeing the faces of those little kids, even though their parents were feeding them lies about supernatural stuff being real. They were all being lied to, just like we're lied to about Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, Prince Charming, Cupid, and all that other make believe shit that insane people think up.
Halloween, just like every other Holiday(minus Christmas and Easter, though people do make money off it...) is something made up by companies who want to steal money from little kids and their gullible parents. I, on the other hand, have never fallen for any of it. I was born with a brain, you know?
Oh, how I wish I would have bit my tongue...
AUTHOR'S NOTE: Oh boy, I love this idea. I think I might actually go through with this story. Warning, it has a supernatural theme to it-obviously. I wanted to try something different. This won't be a high school romance, and it won't be sugar and spice and everything nice. I got the idea when my friend was playing this game called Kiss of Death. It's amazing how THREE words can give a person an idea for a story. Anywho, I hope everyone likes the prologue. I dunno when I'll be able to update. I want to work out an outline and all that before I post chapter one, which is hopefully amazing.
I do not own Jack's poem, obviously. I found it online. I do, however, own the rest. :)
Plagiarize me and I'll have to use tae kwan doe. Peace and love.
