We were the elite until we broke free
now running around unbound by the burdensome body
we roll in the more, drinking the dirt
dragged through by our own mistakes
drowned out by the pain of the guilt
We escaped to find bondage with the enemy
who helped us destroy the works that we built
We were the elite until we lost touch
now fighting all alone in the cold angry dark
hearing naught but the screams of our brethren
ever faint beside the demons' howls and barks
The hope we once had is slowly forgotten
we exchanged our hope for mirth, trading too often
with the demons we had come to so dearly trust
Now we dwell together, burning in the dark
We were the elite until we gave in
we welcomed the world not asking it change
we loved them like brothers, expecting love to kill the sin
But when they wouldnt take our love, we expected it from them
we found out too late how foolish we'd been
We were the elite before we fell apart
losing sight of one another the fire died out
our love for Christ faded, along with our hearts
the truth we so cherished slowly faded into doubt
now running around unbound by the burdensome body
we live the old life, dying in our folly
walking the broad road away from our calling
