A lot has changed in such a short amount of time. It's only been three day but I've officially become a pariah. No one wants to even be seen near me at the risk of inducing Samantha's wrath when she gets back. Even my friends were ignoring me, but that was to be expected since they'd rather have Samantha's friendship than mine.

To make matters worse Samantha was back. She walked into math class, late as usual, with her head held high as if nothing happened. Her school uniform was in perfect order, the green pleated skirt just a few inches above her knees showing off her shapely legs without having anyone suffer from indecent exposure. The top two buttons of her shirt white were undone giving everyone just a glimpse of cleavage and her wavy, reddish brown hair rested on her shoulders softly gliding behind her with her every step. She was wearing a bit more makeup than usual to hide the bruises though. Her face was still a bit swollen but there was no major damage. I avoided hitting her eyes, nose, and mouth because I know I would have been in a huge amount of trouble if I broke anything or caused her any permanent damage. Even while sporting scars and scrapes, you could practically feel the confidence radiating off of her as she passed you by and that's why so many girls were envious of her. No matter what she always seemed so untouchable.

It was a bit awkward when she showed up since her desk was right besides mine. I could feel everyone's eyes on us as she took her seat just waiting to see sparks fly. After she was settled in she glanced over at me, her honey brown eyes so cold they gave me chills, before she turned away to give our teacher her full attention. I hate to say it but, I was definitely intimidated. I lowered my head and avoided looking at anyone for the rest of class. When the bell finally rang I dashed out of there so fast I'm sure I left a dust trail.

While trudging down the hallway to the cafeteria it had finally hit me at how unpopular I'd become. It was a bit depressing how my once fun and exciting school life was had now become a torturous hell hole of a place. People would stare and talk in hushed voices when they noticed me walking by and it was becoming increasingly annoying. I didn't really mind that no one would talk to me because deep down, I was a shy and reserved person, but it did bother me when people would blatantly point and whisper as if I couldn't see or hear them. On the bright side no one would dare confront me out of the fear that I would kick their ass.

Inwardly sighing, I walked into the lunchroom and picked up tray of pizza and french fries, and bought soda before making my way to my seat across from Rafael. He was reading a book as usual glancing up only when I took my before going back to his reading. Pulling my math notebook out of my bag, I prepared to finish my homework while eating my lunch.

There was twenty minutes left in the period when I got to an exceptionally difficult problem and I was stumped. So like everyone else, I sat there staring at my homework while nibbling at the end of my pencil hoping that if I stared hard enough the problem would solve itself.

"You know, you're really pretty." I heard a masculine voice say. Looking up I saw that Rafael had put down his book and had now directed his full attention on me.

"Thanks." I replied unsurely this was literally the first time I'd ever heard him speak.

"So wanna go out?" he asked leaning forward and resting his arms on the table.

"No.", was my automatic answer not liking where this conversation was headed.

"Too bad…wanna make out?" My face instantly scrunched up at his blunt request. The worst part is he was that he looked extremely serious about his question.

"No thanks." I managed to choke out after several moments of perplexed silence.

A lazy smile graced his normally stoic face as he leaned back in his chair. "So why are you still sitting here?"

"Oh, I didn't think you noticed." I said as I started pushing my books into my bag. It seemed like he wanted to talk to me and I wanted to give him my full attention.

"I just wanted to see how long you'd last. And it doesn't seem like you were going to stop anytime soon."

"Well I like sitting here. I don't have to worry about any being pressed up against anyone."

"That's not nice," he said with fake disapproval. "I'm sure your friends miss you." His lips twitched as he tried to hold back a smile.

He was bullshitting me and he knew it. "No they don't and you know it." He couldn't hide the smile any longer. It spread out wide across his face showing off his straight, white teeth. I felt my stomach flutter and I had to look away. I tried to change the subject. "You know, you don't seem as mean terrifying as everyone says you are." I said while lazy tracing a pattern on the table.

"Just because I haven't done anything to you yet doesn't mean I'm nice."

"Nah you're just all talk. I'm not afraid of you." I replied with a small smile.

"You sure about that?" He inquired cocking his eyebrow.

"Pretty much." I answered while nodding my head.

"Get up." He said. The ever-present smile that was on his face was gone now replaced with an earnest expression.

"What?" Was my befuddled response.

"Get up!" he demanded louder making the students in the surrounding tables focus their attention on us.

"Rafael, I'm sorry if I offended you, I -"

"Get the fuck out of here. NOW!" he practically yelled out, slamming his fist against the table on the last word. Myself and everyone around us jump in surprise.

I quickly began to gather my things. When I got up to leave I felt someone grab hold of my arm. Looking down I saw that it was Rafael holding me back. His smile was back and there was a sparkle in his eyes.

"Gotcha." He said looking as gleeful as ever. My eyes widened in shock at his comment. Then I snatched my arm away and turned around and walked out of the lunchroom. I quickly made my way down the hallway when I heard someone call out my name. I recognized Rafael's voice and decided to ignore it.

When he finally caught up he stopped in front of my blocking my path. "I was just kidding Ivy." he said. I ignored him and tried to side step him but he blocked my way. "Come on don't be mad." I almost laughed because he was practically pouting now. The bell rang and students began shuffling out of their classrooms. Some would shoot us curious glances as they passed us by. I turned back to Rafael who was still looking at me expectantly.

"Screw you Rafael." I spat out. I shoved him out of my way and walked into my classroom. I waited about three seconds before sticking my head out of the classroom. Rafael had just begun to walk away.

"Hey Rafael!" I shouted. He turned around eyes searching the sea of students to see who had called him. His eyes finally landed on me. "Gotcha!" I said feeling myself smile. He looked confused at first but then slowly a large grin spread across his face. At that moment I could tell we would be friends.
