Chapter 27:

Prom

The day of the prom, the last day of school to study for finals.

Kate's POV:

"Lucas! I need that Twix bar! Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?" I begged, using my puppy-dog eyes. He eyes the candy bar, then at me, then back at the Twix.

"Fine, but half of it, 'kay?" He said, laughing and breaking the king sized bar in half. I squealed like a little girl.

"Hey guys!" Liam came in, Bridgette on his arm.

"Here's our happy couple. That was quick, you guys just got together what, Wednesday?" Lucas said. Ugh, so many people in my room! Mason hopped up on the bed with Lucas and me, text books, pencils, and paper sprawled out on the bedding. We were still studying non-stop since Tuesday for the finals on Monday. I was stressing out. I couldn't exactly say the same thing about Lucas though, he thought he could ace these finals. I had my doubts, though. He was doing fine, thanks to my help, but still was struggling with World History.

Lucas chewed on his half of the Twix bar. Then, just when I thought my huge room was just about crowded, Isis comes in with her green-haired boyfriend. I groaned and flopped backwards on my bed, my head lightly hitting what I thought was a biology book.

"What?" Isis asked, Charlie's arm around her small waist. Hmm, she got rid of her huge glasses. Her brilliant green eyes were framed lightly with black eyeliner.

"Too many people!" I groaned, taking Mason and putting him on my face to scream in. Mason grumbled a little bit. I heard Lucas's laugh. His sweet, sweet laugh. Bridgette walked into my closet, probably going to get some clothes for her to borrow *cough*, *cough*, take. Liam followed her in.

"Hey Charlie." I greeted.

"Hey." He said simply, his green hair in his line of sight slightly, he flicked his head to the left, his hair now side-swept in the front. It always amazed me how bright his hair always was.

"Isis, why are we here again?" Charlie's low voice asked, looking at Isis's twinkling eyes.

"I just wanted to give Kate her Geometry book back to her, she might need it." Isis said, bringing a large green and brown text book out and gently placing it on my bed.

"THANK YOU!" I said about a hundred times. I could've leaped for joy, Mason hopped off my face and into Lucas's lap, I sat up, smiling.

"No problem. Well, better get going, shopping for prom dresses!" Isis exclaimed. Charlie just had a bored expression on his face. But from what I could see, there was a tint of love in his eyes. He probably loved Isis, I hoped.

"Yeah, we'd better get going. We came here with Bridgette and Liam, they're going with us to, you know. Prom stuff. Why are they still in your closet?" Charlie asked suspiciously, leaving Isis's side and into my closet.

I munched on my Twix bar, then put it on an Advanced Calculus book.

"What?! You're not even going to eat it!?" Lucas exclaimed. I shook my head, he picked up my half of the bar. I slapped his hand away before he could've gotten it in his mouth.

"What!? You said you weren't going to eat it!" He wined.

"I never said that. I just shook my head. Jeeze." I said, shaking my head in disapproval, swallowing. I heard Lucas mumble a 'whatever' and put the Twix bar down. Isis eyed it for a moment. Then she quickly picked it up and popped it into her mouth.

"Hey!" I exclaimed.

"What? I needed to stop this bickering." She said simply, I saw her swallow.

"Urgh!" I said, exasperated. Lucas patted my back. He chuckled. There was a brief moment of silence.

"OH. MY. GOD." We heard Charlie's voice exclaim.

Lucas and I jumped off the bed, Isis ran into my vast closet. Well, it was the size of my room.

"Charlie? Where are you?" I asked, turning on the light.

I finally spotted Charlie, his bright green hair showed in the bright yellow light slightly, he was behind a rack of jeans that my mom brought home from the airport.

"Charlie! Why did you scream?" I asked, making my way through the small room, Lucas by my side and Isis rushing up ahead. She laughed.

"Wha-?" I asked, then looked over at the far left corner of the closet, Bridgette's right foot was stuck in, erm…Mason residue, and Liam was just staring blankly at her, holding in a laugh and pulling her left arm, jeeze, Mason's poop probably was there for weeks or so.

"How did this happen?" I asked, holding in a laugh, Liam got Bridgette out of the, ahem, contents. She was laughing her ass off. So I thought it was okay to laugh as well, she stood up on one foot, then took her dirty shoe off, and started walking out of the closet, Liam at her side. We all filed out, one at a time.

"Well, Liam and I were, ahem, in close contact and I accidentally got pushed up against the wall, making my foot going in the poo." Bridgette explained as soon as everyone was out.

"Ah, I see now." I said, awkward. I walked to the double doors on my left, leading to my balcony. Everyone was busy chatting with their mate, Isis and Charlie, Liam and Bridgette, Lucas and…I honestly don't know. I sighed, closing the doors and looking at the view I got from my balcony. I had one window, the one I communicate to Lucas with. It was above my bed. I seldom used this balcony unless I wanted to think alone.

I sighed, my elbows on the balcony, I flipped my bangs to the side, some strands of it in my face. I shook those off to the sides as well. I sighed again, deeper. I was just so stressed out about the finals starting on Monday. I have already basically mastered World History, Math, Science, and Language Arts. It was just the band test, yes, there was a final for band. I didn't move when I heard a soft click behind me.

"What's up?" I heard Lucas's soft lulling voice ask, he stood beside me, put his arm around my shoulders and moved me closer to him. I smiled. He's never had this much close-contact with me this often as he did since Tuesday. I scooted a bit closer to him.

"Just thinking about the notes I have to perform for my band final." I replied, sighing in his arms. I put my head on his shoulder. Hrmm, he got taller, I smiled, hiding it by tilting my head down.

"Band final?" He questioned, twisting my high ponytail.

"Yep. I don't believe it either." I groaned.

"In that case, I'll be right back." his arm snaked back around off my shoulders and he was in my room, then came back out with my instrument case.

"What're you doing?" I asked.

"Helping you study." he replied, giving me the case. I looked up at him questionably.

"No offense, Luke, I think I need Isis to help me."

"She's not here. Everyone left." he replied, scratching the back of his neck.

"What?" I asked, curious to why he was fidgeting.

"What? Oh, nothing. Here, let's practice." he said, opening the case. I smiled, and started assembling my clarinet. When I finished, I stopped, unsure.

"I don't want to play in front of you…" I said shyly, looking away to hide my blush. The songbook I needed to learn was still in the case.

"Why not?" he asked softly, I turned to face my body to him. I let my arms rest behind me on where my elbows were.

"Uhm, I'm…not ready?" I said cautiously. I didn't want to perform in front of Lucas. That was one of the very few things I felt uncomfortable with around him.

"I know you are. Now, play and let's learn these songs, okay?" he said, pulling the songbook out of my case and flipped to a random page. I started to play.

Bridgette's POV:

I ran around the house, no one was home except for Liam and I.

"Bridgette! Come back here now ma'am!" I heard Liam's sexy low voice yell. I giggled and ran into little Susan's room. She was downstairs with a small blond-headed boy colouring. I ran under her new big-girl bed.

"Bridgette, I know you're in here somewhere!" Liam yelled, I heard his loud footsteps coming towards the door, I crawled deeper nearer to the wall. I covered my mouth to muffle a giggle. I saw his black converse stop outside the door. My feet lightly touched the wall behind me. This bed was too low, that was good, since I had a better chance of him not finding me.

"Bridgette? Oh, Bridgette…" he cooed, trying to coax me out of my position. The hand not covering my mouth was on the ground, supporting me.

"Come on, babe, I know you're in here." he stepped into the room. Then he snapped. "I know what to do now." he said, I didn't have to look at him to know he was smiling. I heard buttons. Oh no! I struggled in taking my phone out of my pocket, I lowered the volume from all the way up, to mid-low, but a ringtone invaded my lowering process. I flipped my new green phone open.

"Hello?" I asked.

"Hey, babe. Found you." I saw Liam's face come into view. I screamed and hung up, scrambling out from under the bed opposite to Liam's side. I almost made it out the door when two strong and warm hands grabbed my waist and pulled me closer to him.

I wasn't trying to hold in my giggles anymore, I just laughed out loud. He spun me around and held me close.

I was still laughing when Liam pressed his lips to mine. His kissed were always the sweetest ones, I stopped laughing and kissed him back. He pulled away and smirked.

"Gotcha." He said simply. Then he looked me dead in the eyes. "I-I, I think I'm falling in love with you, Bridgette." He said suddenly, then pulled me into another kiss, I smiled all the way through it.

"I think I'm falling for you, too, Liam." I said, smiling.

Lucas's POV:

"Why are you still nervous? You sounded great on all those songs." I told Kate honestly, putting my arm around her waist. We were now sitting on her bed again, her clarinet in its case with its songbook and sitting on her pillow.

"I don't know. I'm also worried about prom. Have I ever told you I'm on decorating events committee with Isis?" she asked, fiddling with her fingers.

"No, I thought you hated to decorate. And proms and dances." I said.

"I had to, forgot why, but the old principal made me, not sure about this one, though. But since I already have almost everything down, I'm not sure whether to go or not." she said, sighing.

Hmm, I tapped my chin. I was already going to ask her, but I didn't think now was a good time. I hopped off her bed.

"I better get going, who knows what Isis, Charlie, Liam and Bridgette are doing without us, huh?" I said, grabbing my backpack off the ground and started putting my text books and scratch papers in, I zipped it up.

"Oh…okay. Have fun at the prom." she said. I was going to tell her that I didn't want to go alone, but I remembered that I promised Liam I would go to support him with Bridgette. Since Chelsea said she didn't want to go with me anymore. I sighed, without another word, I walked out.

Liam's POV:

I heard the front door open. Bridgette, Skyler, Susan, and I looked up to see who it was. Lucas came through, a hard look on his face and his orange backpack on his back. It was about 6:30 pm, yeah, school was already done for the week. The prom was starting around 8:00 pm. I'll be there with Bridgette at 8:30 when there are people in there.

"Hey bro, what's up? Did you ask her?" I asked. Skyler and Susan went back to talking.

"Not in the mood." was all he said as he charged up the stairs. I turned to Bridgette, a confused look on her face.

"What's his deal? And what'd you mean?" She asked curiously.

"I meant, did he ask Kate to the prom tonight. He probably didn't or she turned him down in explanation to his attitude." I replied, shrugging.

Her face lit up. "Bye!" She said, giving me a quick kiss, I groped onto her but she just slid away and out the door.

"What the hell was that?" I murmured to myself. I looked over at Skyler and Susan. They were whispering something to each other. They were quiet. Too quiet. And very close, too close for my protective standards.

"What're you two talking about?" I asked curiously. They both snapped their heads towards me and smiled widely and innocently. I didn't trust those big eyes.

"Nothing." They said simultaneously, following a series of giggles. They both ran up to Susan's room.

"Keep the door open!" I shouted.

"Got it!" came Susan's response. What? Just because they were only five, I still didn't trust that Skyler kid.

Why did Bridgette leave with that smile? Hmm…

Bridgette's POV:

I ran a few more yards to Kate's house. I ran into the garage, it was always open. I ran into the house.

"Kate!" I yelled over and over. Finally, she appeared at the top of the stairs. An irritated look on her face.

"Yeah?"

"Are you going to prom?" I asked, running to and up the stairs. She shook her head.

"No, studying." She replied and walked back into her room. I groaned and ran into her room as well.

"Well, I have to get ready. Mind if I borrow something? Liam avoided dress shopping today." I asked, closing the double glass doors to Kate's room. Mason scampered up to Kate. She took him lovingly in her arms. She petted him and scratched behind his ears.

"Sure, pick any dress from my closet, uhm, the rack on the middle on the right. Don't worry, I cleaned up the poop." She said, smiling. I stuck my tongue out at her.

I opened her closet doors and walked in, turning on the bright lights. Kate just sat on her bed and was now flipping through a history text book. I rolled my eyes at her. I walked to the middle of the racks and turned to my right. And there were the dresses she had said they were there. I looked at all of them. Why does Kate have so many designer clothing? I then realized her mother's job, Aunt Cari must've bought them for Kate when she goes on flights as an attendant. I looked at a silky white one with a slightly puffed up cream-coloured skirt. The hem, neckline, and belt of the dress were silver squinted, the dress was strapless and the neckline, along with stunning silver sequins, had a beautiful big rhinestone every two or three inches scattered about. No, the dress didn't look flashy, but it was meant for Kate. I looked onto the next few dresses.

"Oh. My. God." I whispered to myself when I saw another stunning dress. This dress was a nice light seaweed green with a white tunic. The sleeves were short and wispy and the skirt was a nice flowing one with ruffles at the bottom. It went down to my ankles.

"This one!" I yelled, and started stripping down and put the dress on. I ran out.

"Gee, that was fast." Kate said, not looking up from her book. I ran to her wall of accessories. I instantly pulled out a green and white gold necklace from its rack, a few green and silver bangles off her dresser, and a silky smooth light green scarf I put behind my back and elbows to work as a mini-shawl. I put the necklace and bangles on. I ran into her bathroom and looked in her makeup drawer. Light, cream, and dark green eyeshadow, soft black eyeliner and some clear lip gloss. Before I knew it, I had a fake crown of white flowers. I got it off the hook of Kate's bathroom door. She probably put it there for decoration or something. I put the final touches, flitter on temples and shoes and such, when someone knocked on the door. I looked at the clock on the granet counter, dang, 8:37 pm. I was seven minutes late.

"What?" I asked.

"Liam's waiting for you." Kate informed me dryly.

"Coming!" I called, and burst out the door, my phone was slung on the ankle of Kate's light green stilettos. It held firmly.

"He's downstairs, with Susan and some little boy." Kate said, her big round glasses on, reading a large math book. She was in her band t-shirt, her curly brown hair in a sloppy ponytail and she wore baggy plaid sweats.

"Nice outfit, you sure you don't want to go?" I asked. She nodded.

"Now go, I have to study."

"Okay, I'll call you if I need anything." I said, rushing down the stairs.

Kate's POV:

I sighed. "Bye. Have fun." I said, waving bye to my cousin. I flipped back to my textbook. Integers. Pshh, fifth grade math. I already mastered that. Hmm, it seems that I've already learned what I needed to know. I still needed to do my clarinet. I couldn't believe I'd lost my reading contacts…again! I had to wear my huge round black-rimmed ones now. I frowned. A faraway knock interrupted my thoughts. Bridgette's sketchpad was next to me, I was tempted to use it.

I looked over at my window. It was Lucas, in a black vest and bowtie. He held up his brother's sketchpad, Bridgette and Liam both like to draw, and wrote something down.

"You going tonight?" he waved. I smiled and started to write.

"No, studying." I put up nonchalantly, frowning.

"Wish you were." he put up, then put the sketchpad down and slung a black suit blazer over his shoulders and exited his room. I flipped through some of my previous notes to him, I had, had Bridgette's sketchpad for about a year now since the farthest time she was here and left it. "I Love You". That was from so long ago. From when Chelsea and Lucas were still fighting. ((Chapter 7)). I ripped out the note and sighed, putting it on a science book. I thought about it for a moment. I grabbed the note, and ran into my closet.

-about thirty or so minutes later…-

I looked in the mirror. I looked great. Not only did I just now come back from the salon, my hair was all curled…and…bright blond! It was Bridgette's blond, only lighter. If I didn't know any better, I almost looked exactly like Taylor Swift… I was wearing a beautiful white and cream-coloured dress, the skirt was a little puffed and the belt, hem, and neckline rimmed with big silver-sequins. The dress was strapless and went down to my ankles, also the neckline had big silver rhinestones scattered every two or three inches. ((Hmm…where have we hear/seen this dress before?)). My mum got it for me when she was flying to France. My look was completed with silver eyeshadow all around my eyes, black eyeliner, and long silver earrings. I left the silver necklace Lucas gave me and wore silver heels. I put my cell phone on my bed, tonight. I wouldn't need it. I walked downstairs and called Jake for a ride.

Lucas's POV:

I sighed, sitting on a black metal chair against the gymnasium wall. Chelsea came over to me.

"Hey." She said softly. She dyed her hair, a dark brunette and cut bangs to it. It looked much better on her than the blond hair she used to have.

"Hi." I said, not sure why she seemed so…different.

"Don't worry, I'm here with an amazing guy. Look, I'm sorry for everything. Can we just start fresh?" She asked, I looked into her blue eyes, they looked genuinely sincere.

I nodded and smiled. "Yes. Let's start over, I'd like that."

She smiled widely and pulled me into a gentle hug. "Thank you so much Lucas." She then pulled away.

"Where's your wonderful date?" I asked curiously, wondering why she wasn't with anyone.

"He's picking up one of his friends. He should be here soon enough." She said.

I thought about it, but then the double doors of the gym opened up, I gasped.

All POVs:

Kate walked through the double doors into the gym. Everyone was still happily chatting, Jake was next to her, but waved her bye and made his way to Chelsea over by Lucas. While Lucas got up and made his way through a tiny space through the crowd. He was amazed she even showed up. Kate just looked nervously through the crowd, starting to regret coming and getting nervous when she saw Lucas walking towards her. She felt the blush creep in her cheeks. He finally was standing in front of her.

"You came." Lucas whispered. Kate could hear her heart pound in her own ears. Lucas thought he'd never seen someone so beautiful. Chelsea and Jake were watching with Bridgette and Liam, Isis and Charlie just got into the gym and stopped, blending into the crowd to get a good view of Lucas and Kate.

"Yeah." Kate said shyly, her eyes straying from Lucas's and to the ground.

Lucas put his finger under her chin and lifted her head up, she looked into his caramel-coloured eyes as he looked into her dark chocolate brown ones.

He moved his head closer to mine, "I've always wanted to do this." and I couldn't hear the beat of the music anymore, fireworks came. We parted. "I've waited for that." He said. "Well I guess some things keep people away. I pressed my lips to his again.

I paid close attention to the song coming on.

"You belong with me, you belong with me…"

To be continued…
