My Worst Enemy

Rafael Andrew William Roberts is the most annoying, self absorbed, vain, obnoxious, pathetic excuse for a human being I know. And I can't stand him. He's popular, and completely unlike me, and yet we're always together. Not together like you're thinking! No way! It's just that we're always stuck together somehow and…so we're always fighting. Mattie, my best friend, always says that Raf and I are enemies-slash-best friends and then he mutters something after that, which I never get…he never tells me. But no way are me and Raf best friends. I've known Rafael since we were kids and back then I used to hang out with him a lot…I don't know what happened but we kinda drifted apart. In any case, I loved his mom and I was like the daughter she never had. She was always baking stuff and doing mom things, which my mom never did because she died before I was born. Living with just my dad and my two older brothers made me into a bit of a tomboy, but I tried when it came to Mrs Roberts, to be a bit more girly. I even picked up my share of Spanish from her, which made me, and sadly, Raf top of our Spanish class. Maria Roberts was Spanish-American, and had never given up her heritage, and told her son never to either. And when she died…neither me or Raf knew how to deal with it. I think that was the catalyst, but even before that things had been going wrong, we'd both been going our separate ways. Surrounded by guys all the time, Raf had become more 'manly'. I just thought that he became more of a jerk. Most girls are interesting in Rafael, curly brown locks, combined with permanently tanned skin and bright green eyes makes a hottie in any girl's eyes. Any girl but me. Even though most girls from our school were always swooning over him, he's only had a few girlfriends, preferring to concentrate on his 'band', which by the way sucks. Okay, alright! That was a lie…they're actually pretty good but you know…whatever, not like I'll ever admit it to him. RAWR, that's the name of the band. Funny, 'cause that's his initials…everyone thought it was a cool name, so the band stuck with it, but I think I was the only one who remembered that Rawr had been my nickname for Raf back when we were small. I just thought it was hilarious how his initials spelt 'Rawr'. But whatever…those times are gone.

I was snapped out of my reverie by Lilly, who smacked me round the shoulder and told me off for not listening to her. I was sitting in the cafeteria with Mattie and Lilly, my two best friends. Some other friends of ours were sitting with us too, but I wasn't paying attention to any of them. I was more interested in that stupid jerk, Rafael. He was with some girl, who was sitting on his lap, drooling all over him, and I gagged, it was too disgusting to watch. He saw me, and raised an eyebrow and as much as I would have loved to raise a finger…I raised an eyebrow back, and then turned back to my friends, not waiting to see his response. The blonde would have had his attention anyway.

"I swear, everyone in the cafeteria can feel the tension between you two, even though you're on opposite sides of the room," Lilly said, shaking her head. Mattie laughed and nodded, and I just scowled.

"Don't care," I replied.

"You know…there's a band we're taking you to see tonight, seeing as it is Friday…" Mattie said raising his eyebrows.

"Who is it? What are they like? They better be good!" I warned him and he just chuckled.

"Oh they're good sweetie," And for some reason he looked over to Raf's table.

"I'm coming over at 5, okay? We need to get ready, and then Mattie will pick us up at 7!" Lilly squealed excitedly.

"Where? Elixir?" I asked. Elixir was a club, sort of and a café and just Elixir. It was the type of place where we hung out. If this band was playing at Elixir, it had to be good, and cool. I got a little excited but the thought of my next period…which was with Rafael, made the excitement disappear.

Unfortunately, in Spanish, I have to sit next to Rafael, since our teacher arranged a seating plan. Making sure people who were on the same level were sat together. Seeing as we were the top two in Spanish, we were paired together, and I'd actually groaned aloud when I was told where I was going to sit. Today I sat down, and put my head on my arms, closing my eyes, this was going to be a nightmare. I jumped when someone put their hands on my shoulders. It was Rafael, I didn't move, but I knew it was him, because I smelt his cologne, the one he always wore, the one that smelt like the forest. He leaned down, close to my ear and I felt his breath, hot on my neck as he whispered 'Boo!' in my ear. I snapped my head up to glare at him, and he chuckled and sat down next to me.

"Rafael! Hey!" I heard a squeal to my right, next to Rafael. I groaned in my head, it was Ellie Smith, the girl who was drooling on him before in the cafeteria. She was on his lap once more and they began kissing, and didn't notice when the teacher walked in.

I decided to make use of my Spanish, "¿Estás hecho? ¿O quiere una habitación?" I hissed at him, and he pushed Ellie off his lap. (A/N: It meant 'Done? Or do you want a room?') She walked over to her own seat and sat down, winking at him first. Ellie didn't know what I had said, but he did, and he glared at me.

"Just you don't get any action, doesn't mean you have to be jealous of me," He replied, smirking.

"¡Cállate! (Shut up)" I had decided, I was not going to talk to him at all, and if I needed to, it was going to be in Spanish. His was excellent, so he wouldn't have any trouble understanding. It would just make our conversation private.

"Lo que sea! (Whatever)" He said nonchalantly, and started whistling under his breath as Ms Dean started the lesson.

"Man I can't stand that guy!" I complained to Lilly while stuffing books into my locker aggressively.

"What did he do this time?" She chuckled.

"Annoyed me in Spanish. We were supposed to be talking about something or other in Spanish. I mean that was what our activity was, but he just started…urgh! He annoys me!" I slammed my locker shut and we started walking out of the school.

"Well it's funny sometimes when you guys argue…you're like an old married couple!" She said, laughing and I glared at her, so she stopped suddenly. Seeing Mattie's car she hurriedly said goodbye, reminding me that she was coming over and left, asking me if I wanted a ride to. I wanted to walk home, so I refused and they left. I started walking slowly, when I felt a couple of raindrops on me. Aw crap! I thought to myself. This is brilliant! It started raining heavily then and I cursed myself for not taking Lilly up on her offer. I heard a horn behind me, and turned around, thinking it was Mattie but instead of his jeep, I found a silver Porche, I knew who that was; Rafael. He rolled his window down, smirking at me, getting all soaked.

"What do you want? Gloat about having a car?" I snapped at him.

"Nope. Although I could…But no, I was just gonna offer you a ride."

"No thank you," I said civilly. "I'm walking."

"In this rain? No you're not. If you catch a cold, your brothers would kill me if they found out that I hadn't given you a ride. Now get in!"

"And why should I stop them from killing you?"

"Because you want to jump my bones, now get in Alisha!" He said the first part obnoxiously, but his expression turned soft and his voice commanding when he told me to get in. I heard thunder and lightening, and realized there was no point fighting him, he'd drag me into the car if I didn't get in now.

"Thank you!" He said as I got in, and began laughing when he saw me. My black hair was soaked and hung limply, and my mascara had run. His eyes travelled downwards and I realized that my clothes were now completely see-through. Damn me, why did I decide to wear white with a neon green bra, on today of all days?

"Take a picture, it'll last longer," I snapped, irritably.

"Okay," He chuckled, pulled out his phone and took a picture, all before I had time to realize it.

"Hey! Delete that! Rafael!" I screamed, while trying to get the phone.

"Driving here, back off unless you want both of us to die in a car crash!" He said, starting to drive, using it as an excuse so that I couldn't get the phone. He was so irritating! He parked the car in his driveway, and I got out, not even saying thank you, but walking across his driveway to mine, so I could get some shelter. I didn't notice the two cars apart from his in the driveway.

"You're welcome!" He shouted after me, chuckling and I felt like throwing a stone at him.

Lilly turned up at 5, and the two hours really passed like a blur. I wasn't really in the mood for going to Elixir, and I told Lilly this but she pestered me until I gave in. She threw random clothes at me, telling me to try them on, and eventually she nodded at one outfit. I was wearing a dark purple sleeveless top with a belt of little orange studs under the bust under which the purple silk fabric flowed. She also made me wear my orange skinny jeans, which I loved because they made such a statement. Lilly sat me down suddenly, and got out her makeup and I tried to get away.

"No way am I letting you go without makeup. Not that you need any, but…it still looks good!" She smiled angelically and then pouted and I had to give in. She slipped cold on my wrist, and I jumped. It was an orange bracelet with purple diamond shaped stones on it. She started doing my makeup and thankfully it didn't take long, or I wouldn't have been able to sit still. She led me to the mirror, proud of her work. I liked what she had done. My eyes were all smoky and I had clear lip gloss on, apart from that she'd only applied a little blush, and that was it. My black hair just tumbled down my shoulders, wavy yet not curly, and dark blue eyes stared back at me from a pale face. I looked good. She got ready, and she looked gorgeous, as always. Her golden blonde hair was in a messy bun, and she was wearing a really short miniskirt, with a tight top and boots. Her makeup managed to look natural and made her eyes stand out. We were ready before Mattie arrived and decided to watch a little TV before he arrived. Nothing was on, and before I knew it, it was 7 and Mattie was here.

"Yo my girlies! Lookin' smokin'!" He said, winking at us, and I smiled. We piled into his jeep and all the way, I wasn't paying attention to their conversation but to the way Rafael had looked at me in the car. There had been something in his green eyes…I just didn't know what. His eyes…they were so green. They weren't like anyone else's that I knew, they were pure green, the color of pine needles. Sometimes when he was really angry, they became so dark they were almost black, and that was when I knew not to argue with him.

"…way home?" Lilly said and I looked up.

"Huh? What?" I said, looking from Lilly to Mattie.

"I said, did you get soaked on the way home?" Lilly repeated, rolling her eyes.

"Well sorta, yeah," I replied, looking out of the window.

"Sorta?" Mattie asked, raising his eyebrows.

"Um…Rafgavemearidehome," I replied really fast.

"What?" They both said simultaneously.

"Urgh! Rafael gave me a ride home!" I said clearly, and Lilly's mouth dropped open.

"Eh?"

"He made me get into the car, and said that he didn't want to be killed by my brothers for not taking me home safe," I clarified.

"Eh?"

"Whatever," I said, sticking my tongue out. I didn't tell them about the picture, or his eyes.

Elixir was packed when we got there, and we sat down on a table. The band was about to come on, and someone came on stage, talked for a bit and I turned in when I heard him announce the band.

"So here's RAWR!" He walked off stage and as soon as he had, I turned to stare angrily at Mattie and Lilly.

A/N: So…there it was…the first chapter. I really hope you enjoyed it and if you did, please please please please please review! I'd love to hear what you think. Plus I'd give you virtual brownies because if I actually baked brownies, they'd probably poison you…

Anyway, even if you didn't like it, please review and tell me what I could do better/improve/change/add/whatever! =D
