Growing tired of my walk, I decided I would stray

So I wrote my six friends asking how to fall away

They replied with great joy, happy to see the day

That I slid backwards-and backwards I would stay

Each letter a poem, here is what the six said:

The world's gone to hell so lets write a song

We'll give it acoustic and maybe some drums

Then we'll perform it live in the city's slums

Bystanders will chuck rations, killing our fun

But lets not forget why we came here.

There's no hope for the living, let's be depressed

We will live out our lives and hope for the best

We'll find a lady for you; lift up her dress

You'll leave her room without a heart in your chest

But lets not forget why we're here.

Poor you and poor me, we're all alone in this pit

Stand by the edge now, we'll jump off in a bit

Fall into the water with a candle in your wrist

It won't go out if you keep believing in this place

Don't forget that we're here for a reason.

And I replied to them:

Its never quite hopeless

If you're justified by faith

You're faithful but doubtful

Love can overshadow your hate

Keep living, keep loving

The truth's not complicated

Take the world a day at a time

One day you'll find your place

My heart is destroyed now; I listened to my friends

Despite all the hurt, I couldn't let my fall end

I wanted to see how far my twisted life could bend

So I read more of the letters they continued to send.

My conscience dying with regret, I watched me fall more

Life is too hard to live in the present

Go live in a place where the world doesn't

Past is always pleasant but the future sure isn't

Head in your pillow, think of the distance

Soon you'll forget what you came here for.

Love's the end of your wants but use it as the means

Throw away their hearts to accomplish your dreams

Your eyes rest at night, but your conscience just screams

Its really so nice to have everything you need

You're forgetting what you came here for

The voice in your head was a fool from the start

It wasn't any wiser than the one in your heart

Ignore those two liars and play out the part

Overtime your conscience will slowly fall apart

And you'll completely forget why you're here.

And you write to me:

Why are you so hopeless?

You're justified by faith

You've hope, but you're doubtful

love can overshadow your hate

Keep living, keep hoping

God will hear your prayers

Take the world a day at a time

One day you'll find your place.

Moonlight through my window watches me and the nine

One bullet and a trigger should keep me from crying

And let me re-emphasize as the ice grips your spine

Straying from my God was my single greatest crime.

Now I've forgotten what I even came here for.

And you write to me:

Its never quite hopeless

If you're justified by faith

You're faithful but doubtful

Love can overshadow your hate

Keep living and loving

The truth's not complicated

Take the world a day at a time

One day you'll find your place

But your letter is too late.
