The next morning, Bailey woke to the sound of the doves singing on her windowsill again and she couldn't help but smile at their beautiful song. She could hear her neighbours through the wall cursing them for their "damned racket" but Bailey just shook her head and rose from her bed, her small frame covered in the longest nightgown imaginable. It was almost as if she had stolen it from her grandmother's wardrobe.
Flicking on the bathroom radio, she turned on the taps to her bathtub because the shower hadn't worked here since before she'd moved in. The block of flats that she resided in were completely run down but she loved living here. She walked to the bus stop every morning and passed the large houses wondering how lonely she would get if she lived there alone and even worse she knew it would end up looking like a show home with unused rooms just collecting dust.
Sighing, she added a bit of her bath salts so that she could relax before her first day due to her being nervous. Nerves weren't normally something Bailey had to deal with because she'd done drama and music in school because she'd had dreams. The same dream that most impressionable teenagers dream. She was going to be famous. Her name written in lights and the world would know her name without even having to think about it. Her teachers had seen something special in her but that had quickly been extinguished thanks to people telling her how worthless she actually was as well as the constant put downs from her own father and ex lovers. She stopped singing, dancing and acting. Her vibrant clothes got locked away and a new kind of Bailey was born.
Bailey was now a plain Jane. She'd heard her mother worry about her to her father. Her father had just grunted and said that it was about time she moved on from her stupid dreams and realised there was a real world out there where you needed a "proper" job to get anywhere. Hence why she'd applied to work at her old job and she'd loved it there. Every day was great and she enjoyed getting up again just like she had when she had her performing lessons to attend. The days were even brighter when she got promoted to P.A.
Jerry was a kind boss and understood that sometimes she struggled to do things to the pace he was used to but he also helped her get through the slow moments. One night they'd had to stay back late to finish some work and it was warm in the office because the air conditioning gets turned off at seven when the building is supposed to be evacuated of all employees. Jerry had stripped off his tie and a few of his shirt buttons were undone. Bailey's hair had started to fall free from her tight bun and her shirt was tucked out of her high waist skirt as she sat across from him and wrote out the notes he was dictating to her. A silence fell over him and she couldn't help but look over at him. "Is everything alright?" She asked putting her pen neatly down on her notepad and looking over at him.
"Everything is just fine." He whispered softly before moving round to her, his hands taking hold of hers and pulling her against him. The notepad clattered to the floor and she gasped because she had a huge thing about untidiness but her lips parting was the grant that he had been waiting for. His lips pressed against hers, his hands running through her hair and pulling the restraint free so her honey blonde locks fell down over her shoulders as their lips mated together. Everything had happened so fast.
An affair had started out between them. Bailey loved every moment of it. She really believed that he loved her. Every spare minute they would spend together and enjoy each other's company. They'd
been together secretly two years when Bailey asked if they could finally come out and just tell people that they were a couple.
Closing her eyes as she sunk under the warm water of the bath, Bailey remembered the blank expression Jerry had worn on his face as he took hold of her hand and kissed the middle of her palm gently. Romantic gestures had never been shared between them and she stiffened underneath his grasp. He said it so calmly. The reason their affair was secret was because he was married with a family. She'd quickly left the office then telling him that she wouldn't come back to him ever again. She was quitting. He didn't argue but did leave sweet loving comments on her answering machine. She ignored each one and then made the decision to apply for the job with Wolf Stone. It was a decision that would have hurt Jerry because everyone knew that Stone & Brothers was Jerry's biggest competition and each year, Stone's company got bigger, bolder and definitely more popular.
Sighing, she climbed out of the bath and wrapped a towel around her waist before walking over to her wardrobe. She touched one of her old vibrant green dresses and laughed before taking hold of one of her plain grey pinafore dresses and a pair of black tights. Things weren't going to change because she had a new boss, taking hold of a white belt she wrapped it in the middle of her and turned to look in the mirror. She pulled her hair back into a tight bun and gently applied a light layer of Vaseline onto his lips.
Stepping into the office, she ignored the evaluating eyes of fellow work companions and couldn't help but run her hands over her dress as she worried about the outfit that she wore before running her hands over her face and making sure that there was nothing on her face. She was greeted by a surprised Wolf, "What are you doing here so early? None of my previous personal assistants have been arrived and I'm not sure if this is something I could get used to." He laughed at the serious expression on her face.
"I don't like being late." The serious expression eventually faded and smiled at him gently. "Efficiency is the best trait in a P.A." She commented before looking over at him. "So what is my first job of the day?" She asked placing her bag down on the floor and took out her notebook and sitting down at the chair at the other side of the desk so she could write notes.
Wolf just grinned at her and realised that he was probably going to start enjoying his job for a change before telling her to reply to his e-mails and also to organise the annual party that the company held. She had less than a week to organise it and as he walked away he was sure that he could hear her heart sink. He knew the parties had a reputation and he also knew this was the best challenge to show how good she was at her job.
