Butterfly Kisses

Close your eyes

she said

so I did

as she pressed her check against

my own

I smelled the perfection in her skin

and I could feel how smooth she had

sanded her face

to show no emotion

but at times like those

with our faces side by side

like this

we breathe sweet fudge

down each others ears

ever so lightly her eyelash

fluttered

like coy fingers

and I didn't understand

at first

I just gave you

a butterfly kiss

she said

and I felt so special

and no one could touch me

because of such a gift

a gift of love and secrets

the kind my mother and I

only

my mother and I

could share

Note:

in memory of my mother who taught me how to love like a butterfly
