September Fifteenth
Chapter Ten

Ashe.
Walking up to my front door with a warm sensation rising in my stomach, I sighed to myself, hoping that this day would never end. I quickly walked into the house and slipped off my shoes before walking up the stairs. There was nothing worse than being caught up past curfew for obvious reasons.
Letting the latch on my bedroom door click softly, I slipped out of my heels and flopped onto my bed. It was funny how something so terribly wrong turned into something so definitely right. I didn't know how it had happened or when it even occurred but it was definitely something I couldn't ask for. But at the end of the day I was with Jake and it was all that mattered.
The weekend flew by within a blink of an eye and before I knew it Monday had began its tyrant once more. I walked into school with J.P next to me and oddly enough, as we walked towards my locker there was more gossip. What had happened this time?
A few passing girls glared at me as if to say 'I hate you.' But honestly, what had I done? I was almost ready to scream aloud "If someone could tell me what is going on, do so."
J.P looked at my frowning face and asked "why do you look like something's bothering you?"
I replied "because something is bothering me."
"May I know what it is?"
"I don't know, something's up with everyone and I wanna know what it is." I sighed slamming my locker shut.
"Hmm, I'll ask around. I give you details in ten." J.P said with his back to me as he walked away.
"Sure thing," I sighed walking in the opposite direction to homeroom.
Walking around the corner I bumped into someone and looked up to find an unfamiliar face. "Oh I'm so sorry."
"It's okay." She said with her pale blue eyes sparkling at me.
"I should probably look where I'm going." I laughed.
"Hey you're Ashe right?"
"Yeah that's me." I deadpanned.
"It's okay. I'm not going to bag you out or anything. I just wanted to say I'm sorry. Nate can be a dickhead sometimes. Whether he knows it or not," she laughed ruffling her auburn hair.
"Trust me. I know." I sighed.
"So where are you going?"
"64A." I said pointing behind her.
"Oh me too!" she exclaimed "Let's walk together."
"Um okay?" I chuckled. "You know I've never seen you around before. Are you new?"
"Haha! Me? No. I've been in your grade since like seventh grade. It's me Emily. Emily Merrick."
"I don't know you. I'm sorry." I smiled sincerely. "But I'm sure I can get to know you."
"Haha, yeah. Listen um, have you seen Nate? I was kinda looking for him and I haven't seen him." I rolled my eyes. The rebound. Always the rebound.
"Nope. I haven't seen him. I don't plan to either."
"Oh. It's okay." She smiled.
We walked around the corner, slowly pushing past people rushing to get to their homerooms as well. As we walked further down the corner we found Alex and J.P talking in a heated conversation.
"Hello boys." I laughed slinging my arm around Alex.
"Hey shrimp." Alex chuckled ruffling my hair.
I smirked and shoved him into the locker he was leaning on. A few people looked to where the loud crash had come from, but Alex just laughed it off.
"Ashe." J.P sighed.
"Yeah?" I laughed.
"It's Nathan."
"What do you mean 'it's Nathan'?" I mimicked J.P's voice
"I mean, everyone's staring at you because of Nathan." He said clearly not impressed.
"What did he do this time?"
"It's not what he's done; it's what happened to him."
"Well what happened to him?" I smirked.
"He got into a car accident."
"No he didn't. He's just being a retard."
"Uh Ashe. Who's that?" Alex said pointed behind me.
"Who's who?" I asked arching an eyebrow.
"Him," Alex said flicking his head over my shoulder. "I mean her."
We turned around to find a shaking Emily literally on the verge of tears. I frowned and walked up to her. Putting my hand on her shoulder I asked "Are you okay?"
"Dude, are you okay?" Alex said waving a hand in front of her face.
"Is- is Nate okay?" Emily whispered staring at the ground.
"Wel- I don't know." J.P said quietly.
"I'm sorry. I have to go." She said pushing past us.
Alex, J.P and I stared after her but she was lost in a sea of people, not really knowing which way to go.
"You called her a 'him'. Seriously Alex?! She's gonna be crying for ages." I laughed.
"How do you know?" Alex smirked "How do you know she was crying about my accidental comment, and not about Walsh-boy?"
"Because you called her a 'him'. Hello how is that not mean?"
"Ashe. Shut up." J.P laughed.
"What? It's not my fault if I talk too much."
"Okay. Seriously woman. Shut up before I start teasing you about lover boy Jake." J.P smirked.
I blushed. That certainly did shut me up. I didn't like talking about Jake to any of the guys because they'd constantly harass me and Jake, no doubt when they ever saw him with me.
"Okay, you boys go mingle. I'm gonna go find Sammy and Jess."
"You won't make it!" J.P yelled as the bell rang for homeroom.
I sighed and jabbed his rib. He scrunched his face and rubbed his wound. "Ow, crazy bitch."
"You're welcome. I'll see you guys later alright?"
"Sure thing, shrimp." Alex grinned.
"Stop calling me shrimp!" I Jessie whined.
"Stop stabbing me then!" J.P quipped.
"Fine," I sighed.
"Good, you run along now and be a good little girl with a broken arm okay?" J.P grinned.
"Bye Alex, J.P." I sighed turning my heel.
Walking down the hallway pushing past a few people here and there I couldn't help but wonder what would have been if Nate and I were still together. What was his motive to break up with me? I didn't do anything wrong did I?
"Ashe." I heard someone call from behind me. I turned around to find no one behind me, so I continued along the crowded corridor.
"Ashe!" they called again "Oh my god, just fucking move!" I laughed and turned around. Only Sammy could be that loud and obnoxious at 8:30 in the morning.
"Samantha. Didn't your mother teach you any manners?" I laughed.
"No, and you know it." She winked linking her arm in mine. I winced at the pain but continued on down the hall with Sammy and Mark by my side.
Today was going to be a long day, I could tell.
