Author's Note:
The other day, I was thinking about how little I remember from kindergarten, and I guess one of the things that really stuck with me was this one girl that I mention. The rest of what I wrote consists of little pieces of things I remembered.
I learned so much in kindergarten, it seems.
The first day, I walked up in my first-day-of-school outfit
and got my name tag
and started making friends
and we had cookies for snack that day,
and one girl said, "I is so excited,"
and the teacher corrected her, "I am so excited."
I learned a lot in that fall.
Every day, I would go in to the first grade room for a bit
and learned bigger words
and harder fractions
and I skipped nap time all those days
and that same girl said "I is having fun,"
and the teacher corrected her, "I am having fun."
I learned many things that snowy winter.
Some days, I would get to talk to visiting adults
and they thought I was cute
and they were always nice
and my friends and I ate with the teacher some days
and that girl got tired of school and said "I is bored,"
and the teacher corrected her, "I am bored."
I learned more still in those last months of spring.
A few days, I would get extra recess because I did all my work
and I got extra worksheets
and I liked it at the time
and I got to help the other kids on certain days
and the girls from the first day said "I is excited for next year,"
and the teacher corrected her, "I am excited for next year."
