The Shade of Night

The shadows grow longer as the hours pass you by.

They creep along the ground as the sun leaves the sky.

People scurry 'round before the day's light departs;

They know enough about you to be afraid of the dark.

Their eyes are not able to see the many sights

That yours show in detail on every darkened night.

Their deafened ears cannot hear your softly falling steps

As you follow close behind: in the shadows you have crept.

The sun has set, and you look out over all of your domain.

It is yours to keep for as long as you remain.

Others come and go looking for what's theirs by right,

But during every darkened hour, yours is the shade of night.
